What is Statera Foundation?
Statera Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to gender parity in the theatre. Deriving its name from the Latin word for balance, Statera endeavors to serve women in theatre by expanding employment options, improving salary, and removing barriers to growth and achievement. We support and empower anyone who identifies as a woman in theatre to reach her full potential by bridging the gap between passion, preparation, and opportunity. What does Statera Foundation do?
Since it's inception in 2014, Statera Foundation has been facilitating positive change for gender balance in the theatre at our annual conferences and through the development of support and advocacy programs.
Why does Statera need $10,000?
1. The creation and maintenance of the Statera Leadership Coalition
- Cost of meeting space - Travel costs for face-to-face meetings with artistic and executive leaders - Tele-conferencing fees - Website maintenance/support
2. The maintenance of the Statera Mentorship Program
- Software for tracking and maintenance of the Statera Mentorship Program - Mentors/mentee meeting space at StateraCon16 - Postal costs
3. To keep attendance costs low at the 2016 Statera Conference
- No increase in registration fees for StateraCon16 - Continued ability to offer deeply discounted student rates - Printed materials for the conference - Postal costs - Marketing costs
Tell me more about the Statera Leadership Coalition.
One theatre, alone, enacting change toward gender parity is a victory. 50 theatres across the country, enacting change together by 2020 could mean a shift in the culture of the American theatre. The Statera Leadership Coalition (SLC) is bringing together Artistic and Executive leaders from 50 theaters across the nation, who are interested in and committed to implementing such change.
We believe the most effective way to exact change is from the top where season decisions are made and hiring is done. Further, we believe the greatest change can and must be made in the heartbeat of the American theatre -- in our flyover and regional theatre cities, with representation from across the country. The Statera Leadership Coalition's first face-to-face convening will be at StateraCon16 in Denver, CO in partnership with the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
Tell me more about the Statera Mentorship Program.
The Statera Mentorship Program is at the core of Statera's mission - bridging the gap between passion, preparation, and opportunity. In January of 2014, Statera launched this program to facilitate flourishing mentor relationships that help both mentor and mentee organize their professional challenges, nurture their creative ideas and activate their personal gifts.
Statera Foundation is a bridge for connecting theatre women interested in moving beyond the very real obstacles that sometimes lie between our goals and our successes. But the mentorship program isn't just for women. It is also for our male, trans and gender fluid allies, who are looking for ways to connect with and learn from other theatre practitioners interested in gender equity. The most effective way to grow, expand and manifest change is to work together.
A small portion of the funds from this campaign will go towards creating space for our cross country mentors and mentees to meet in person during the 2016 Statera Conference in Denver, CO. Learn more about Statera's Mentorship Program by visiting our WEBSITE.
How will funds be used to keep conference attendance costs low?
The majority of the funds from this campaign will go towards our conference costs. This includes but is not limited to rental space, physical and promotional materials, on-site meals for speakers and attendees, organizational costs and transportation for speakers. The fee for our three-day conference is only $150 for attendees and $75 for students attending with their professors. Funds from our Kickstarter campaign will allow us to provide a high quality experience with invaluable content for theatre practitioners from all over the country at any stage in their career. Interested in registering for conference? Visit our WEBSITE.
What else will the funds be used for?
Statera Foundation is an all volunteer organization. After our Kickstarter fees are handled, 100% of the remaining funds from this campaign will go directly to the creation of the Statera Leadership Coalition, the maintenance of the Statera Mentorship Program and chiefly, keeping attendance costs low at Statera’s 2016 Conference for gender equity in the theatre.
Risks and challenges
These three Statera Foundation Programs are already underway. The conference dates are booked and registrations are rolling in. There are no inherent risks for our project. Programming will move forward and barring an act of God, the conference will take place October 14-16 in Denver, CO.
