About this project
To record and release a CD of "new folk songs" that were written specifically for and about the 375 Anniversary of the founding of Providence, RI. They are the product of a concert that took place on October 1st, 2011. 18 songs and spoken word pieces were written for this celebratory concert. All of the songwriters are residents of Rhode Island and members of the RI Songwriters Association. The CD will respresent about a dozen songwriters and one poet. The CD will be produced by Hear In Rhode Island an organization set up to produce local music events and promote local musicians. The organization has over 15 years of festivals, concerts, showcases, conferences and a couple of previos CDs under its belt. This CD will be a timeless memory of the Anniversay of Providence but also for anyone who lives in, has visited, or used to live in Providence.Artists contributing songs to the CD are John Fuzek, Billy Mitchell, Ed McGuirl, Tracie Potochnik, Heather Rose, WS Monroe, Jake Haller, Jim Tata, Dean Petrella, Indigo Bethea, Buddy Cavaleri, Mary Ann Rossoni and more...

HEAR IN RHODE ISLAND: To encourage and foster the composition and performance of original and live music by Rhode Islanders. HIRI works very closely with the RI Songwriters Association on a regular basis. HIRI also works and has worked with with Stone Soup, Blackstone River Theatre, The Towers in Narragansett, The Folk Alliance, The Newport Folk Festival, The Newport Sunset Festival, The Brooklyn Coffeehouse, Arts at the Armory in Somerville, MA and many more. HIRI produced the HIRI festival for 7 years (1994-2000) and presented as many as 100 performers/acts during each festival.
