Our campaign is over and we want to thank you for the support and cool media coverage from CNET, TIME, Toyland and others. We received valuable feedback during the campaign and Zyro is now back in deep dive prototype development. We are excited about the new technology we have created and will be bringing Zyro to the skies soon. With a swing of the Zyro wand you command Zyro to dodge, soar and bounce off virtual walls. Choose games like pong, soccer or race through your own obstacle course. Play solo or with a team, you choose and Zyro sets the boundaries for your game zone in the sky.
It’s easy to set up, soar and score!
Zyro is a different kind of drone because its designed specifically to play games and sports. Think of it as the puck in a hockey game, the frisbee in ultimate, or as an extra player on the field. Zyro’s outer ring keeps it – and you – protected so that you can swoosh it into nets, bounce it through hoops, or pass it around with other quadcopters. It's like combining Wii and Quidditch in the sky - but no screen required.

The Invisible box in the sky
Zyro is the only drone that creates its own invisible box in the sky depending on the game you choose to play. The size of box can be 7x7 feet to half-court to football size. The height ranges from just overhead to approximately 25 feet.
Put Zyro down in the middle of a field, turn it on and it launches into the sky. It will prowl the boundaries of game zone and it's ready for action.
There are two main ways to make Zyro move – swinging and passing. Depending on the game, Zyro will know to do one or both of these.
Swinging and passing
The swinging motion is similar to hitting at a ball with a tennis racquet. Swinging your controller will shoot Zyro away or zip it back to you. Point it down and Zyro keeps soaring in that direction.
The passing motion is similar to passing a basketball down the court. When a player's drone(with a Zyro Drone Remote attached) gets near Zyro, it can pass it to another player or shoot it across the goal line.
We know that once players get their hands on Zyro, they’ll love the games we’ve developed. But even more, we know you’ll create games and ways to play that we couldn’t even imagine.

The brainchild of veteran engineers, drone enthusiast and rugby players, Zyro was dreamed up out of the desire to find an entirely new way to play outdoors. With years of experience working on the insides of products at Gumstix – the forerunner in computers-on-module and expansion boards – we knew that we had the expertise to make Zyro a reality.
We’ve been building the Zyro technology for a year now and we can’t wait to get Zyro into players hands and watch them light up the skies. Our last step is to produce the tooling for units and to figure out the way to make it easy for developers to take advantage of the system. Zyro is ready for flight. Risks and challenges
Zyro, has been lucky to piggyback the design, engineering, manufacturing and supply chain resources of Gumstix, Inc., a pioneer in the field of tiny computers that has 11 years of demonstrated achievements. The following are the critical schedule and design risks that can impact the schedule.
1. Injection molding of cases for Zyro, Wand, and Remote
We have currently got 2 production runs scheduled between Feb. and June.
We will have a vote on the preferred Zyro Wand shape, which will occur after the first run.
2. Electronics reliability, especially GPS signal integrity.
The next spin of our electronics will entail an extensive re-evaluation of the performance of all aspects of the electronics and control systems, including the application interface.
3. API Design
Because the API Specification will entail input from the community of Game Designers that decide to take part in the program, it will be difficult to guarantee the release of the API at the same time as the release of the product. This is not expected to delay the product release, but it may be that the API will lag as the community circles the specifications.
4. Control-system performance
The optimization of the control-system, including the management of gains and control parameters, has been extensively investigated.
5. Game control performance
With people standing around and playing with a drone on auto-pilot, there is a trade-off between velocity and safety. We have designed the system so players can in fact dodge the system.
6. Regulatory authorities
The FCC regulates the electronics, and the circuitry must pass the FCC requirements.
The FAA regulates the airspace. We have no insight into the changing requirements of the FAA as it grapples with the best protection of air safety, or the level to which the product engineering might be subject to regulation.
