It's Christmas, and a group of High School friends fight and sing their way through a zombie apocalypse in order to save their parents.
Zombie Musical is the feature length version of the BAFTA New Talent award-winning short from the creator of the "Ryan Gosling Won't Eat His Cereal" Vine videos.
But in order for us to make the feature we need the help of all you fine folk. So we decided to try something a bit different, and make a little interactive series exclusively for Kickstarter!
A Unique Kickstarter Campaign!
We wanted to give you guys something a bit more fun and interactive for this kickstarter campaign and so we are creating a webseries where, by donating:
YOU get to determine the fate of the Zombie Musical Creators and Crew.
For just £1 become a credited Executive Producer on the Zombie Musical Feature.
We have rewards levels that go higher than £1 available with some great incentives attached, but you only need £1 for some of our best rewards! We would love to fund this entire project with 100,000 Executive Producers so please help us spread the word, tweet/facebook/blog, the more people we reach the better.
We will release a new episode each week, and each episode's contents will be determined by how much we've raised that week.
In next week's episode, our characters will receive weapons at the following targets:
- £10: Knife
- £50: Gun
- £100: Nunchucks
- £500: Spear
- £1,000: Sai (Raphael's Weapons)
- £5,000: Bow
- £10,000: Fruit Basket
£100,000: Mystery Box???
Without your help our characters (us!) will surely be torn limb from limb!
The Feature Film
Zombie Musical follows a group of High School friends as they band together to save their parents during a zombie apocalypse at Christmas. The story progresses through song as we follow the friends across the devastated city, with a healthy dose of zombie killing action, tongue-in-cheek humour, and young love thrown in for good measure.
THE ZOMBIES DO NOT SING OR DANCE. THEY ARE ZOMBIES. THEY WILL STRIP THE FLESH FROM YOUR BONES
Haphazard Media was started by a group of like minded friends who all wanted to create films that had great stories, high production value, but were fun to make and watch. Back in 2010 we made the short film, ZOMBIE MUSICAL which you can see here:
The short went on to win a BAFTA New Talent award and since then we have been working hard at developing the feature version.
We worked with such a wonderful team on the short, and we would love to bring as many of them with us to work on the feature film, and by backing this kickstarter project you would make that happen.
A couple of weeks ago something crazy happened to Ryan our writer/director...His videos went MASSIVE on the internet. ‘Ryan Gosling won’t eat his cereal’ was suddenly everywhere, and everyone was talking about it. It was great fun to watch if a little surreal. The videos are up top just in case you missed them.
We are now getting back to our day jobs of making movies and we have no doubt that with your help we can make Zombie Musical great.
The script for the feature is now finished and ready to go, and if you ask us nicely we might even send you a sample from it. The music is being written as you read and we are developing the look and production design for the movie, as well as detailed story boards. Here are just a couple of examples of what we are working on:
It’s going to be a fun, gory, musical zombie fest and we would love for you all to follow the process with us. Like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter for all the latest updates, and subscribe to our YouTube channel to follow our behind the scenes vlogs.
We're raring to go and super excited at the prospect of taking you on our film-making journey. Come along and help us make our first feature and survive the apocalypse.
We of course want to reward you for your generous donation to the project, and we just wanted to talk you through a few of them.
Our best one, (we think!) is that we are offering you an Executive Producer Credit for just £1 ($1.5). This means that you will get an IMDB Credit saying that you are one of the big wigs in the movie industry. What could be better than that?
But, if you want more, we can do that too! We are offering anything from a digital download of the webseries to a chance to come and spend a day with us on set as we shoot the feature. If you are a fan of the ‘Ryan Gosling won’t eat his cereal’ then we have exclusive kickstarter t-shirts for you, and they look like this:
We are also offering you the chance to name your own Zombie or Character. You get to choose the name, or have them named after you, and we will send you a personalised video from your character saying hello (or anything you want them to, really!)
We have really tried to give you a mixed bag of options, but if there is anything you think we have missed, or something you would be particularly interested in then please do get in touch and we will see if we can add it as a reward.
Risks and challenges
To make the scale of movie we're talking about, we need to raise more than £100,000. We're confident that if the Kickstarter is successful, it will be a clear sign of the demand there is for this project to prospective co-producers, sales agents and distributors.
However, it is still a risk that we won't raise the rest of the money, but not to worry -
If we don't manage to raise the rest of the finance after the Kickstarter campaign is successful, we will still of course make the film with the money you have kindly donated! We will try our best to keep as close to what we're aiming for, but either way, it will get made. A low budget presents its own set of challenges, as we will need to rely on lots of help from cast, crew, locations, equipment suppliers and zombies to help us as collaborators, not just as hired guns. Fortunately over the years we've built up a cohort of friends, film professionals and other colleagues all who are ready to be drafted in to make the film look great no matter the budget.
We've all been working in the professional film industry for several years now, helping get other people's films made - now we're just doing it for ourselves, with your help.
