A Message From Publisher Thomas L. Vaultonburg of Zombie Logic Press
As a publisher, Iced Cream is the book I've always dreamed of discovering. I feel compelled to publish this book at all costs, because no one else but Jesus Correa could have written it. No one else could even have written anything like it. A bold claim in an era of so much contrived eccentricity, I know, but I'll stake my entire credibility as an editor, as a publisher, and as a lover of poetry on the proposition that you can't read the poetry of Jesus Correa, or see the artwork of Jesus Correa, and come away thinking anything other than you've seen something truly one of a kind.
Jesus has run for mayor as a Green Party candidate, he is a stand-up comedian, wrestler, poet, musician, and visual artist. Most people in town know about him, but until I read this book I didn't really know him. His poetry is personal. Excruciatingly personal. So personal you will find yourself cringing. He pulls no punches about his history. And it is the history of a man who has done and seen things that are somewhat extraordinary. The way he tells it is pure romance in the face of almost crushing adversity.
Zombie Logic Press, has been a going concern since 1997, and receives a great many submissions from respected poets all over the world. I am honored that because of the work we have done in the past, and with the accolades given to our online journal, Zombie Logic Review, so many poets from various disciplines have felt comfortable trusting me with their work. Zombie Logic Press is located in the 5th Most Dangerous Neighborhood in America. The city of Rockford is used to being listed on every embarrassing list of American cities, including Forbes's list of most miserable cities, Gallup's 4th fattest city, and the FBI's 9th most dangerous city. This particular mix produces unexpectedly interesting results. When you're miserable, you make art. And Rockford makes art, great art. The kind of art only those in a place, at a time like this can make.
So, please support this project because it will allow me to bring what I sincerely believe is an important work of art to a larger audience. Rockford has poets who survive in a place forsaken by others. A place that seems to bring out the best in those who stick it out and stay, and try to say something meaningful. People like Jesus Correa.
Risks and challenges
Zombie Logic Press uses one of the best printers in the United States to create beautiful books that are far and away above the quality you get from larger publishers. The main challenge as a publisher is to keep costs manageable. I knew on this project there would be a high printing cost, because the nine illustrations are elaborate, and deserve to be seen the way Jesus intended. The $948 goal you see is the cost of 100 copies of this book, plus a small payment to the creative team. Any monies above and beyond that, will go towards a larger printing of 250 copies. I'm confident the final product will be spectacular. Zombie Logic Press maintains impeccable standards and always delivers as promised.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Absolutely he did. As the Green Party candidate. I voted for him. So did some other people. This is a man who organizes parades, neighborhood clean-up events, whatver he feels is needed, in a place where it is needed. http://www.wifr.com/news/headlines/41954837.html
Glad you asked. Iced Cream will be the first in a series of poetry books by Rockford area poets in an attempt to export the talent we recognize in this area to a larger audience. Our hope is to publish a new book by a new voice every six months.
