About this project
NEW GOAL: $7000!!!
We are so blessed that we reached our goal so quickly but with a budget of $8K, this is just the beginning for us. The extra money will pay for the puppets being made and help more with food and sets so that Molly isn't paying so much out of pocket. We also would love to rent a Chapman dolly for a weekend for some cool dolly moves. Thank you so much for all the support and keep reposting!!
Magic The Gathering The Musical is the story of a boy, Jake, who lives for nothing but his beloved card game. Our film begins and ends on a Saturday. It's tournament day! Nerd dreams are on the line on this epic day and our ensemble cast are in for a day to remember for the rest of their lives. Jake's decision to enlist the Trainer for help could threaten the entire tournament and Jake may find he has a different way of being a winner. Don't forget about Heidi....I mean Sapphire, the spunky Vampire The Masquerade player and Doofus, whose social insecurities and dreams might be saved by a dark stranger. Just when you think you know how these lovable characters' weekend unfolds, their journey takes a turn and then it truly is a magic day.
Love Magic? Love puppets? Love musicals? It's statistically impossible for you to not like at least one of these things, so you're bound to love Magic The Gathering The Musical! This fan film was first conceived years ago as a live action musical but has evolved several times since then.
After producing the stop-motion webseries Orgazimation, we fell in love with the puppets and puppetry of all kinds. Suddently a revelation! MTGTM would be perfect as a puppet show obviously. With the local Centre For Puppetry Arts and other puppet facets that surround us, we have a brilliant talent pool to pull from for puppeteers. Now here we are, elbow deep in fleece, ready to razzle and dazzle you.
The groundwork has been laid. We have recorded a large chunk of our music already, materials for the puppets has been purchased, locations have been obtained and crew has commited their incredibly valuable time for free.
Where your money goes: Set construction. We are building all of our sets from scratch. We are placing our Muppet style hand and rod puppets in a puppet sized world, which also needs room for our puppeteers to live. This requires some work. Food. During production even though we have a crew that are working professionals in the film and television industry and have even dedicated their equipment such as cameras, light kits, tools, etc for free as well, we have got to be able to feed them. Producing a professional movie for free still takes money to feed said labor.
