WART is back! Book 4 is finally finished!
All we need to do is print it, and that's where you come in.
After two successful Kickstarters we have managed to print the first three books and send them to all you lovely ghouls and gals. Since the campaign for Book Three ended, we've been attending conventions, selling via our webstore, and working on this new issue.
Now once again we need your help to bring this brand new book to print. Book 4 starts a new adventure for our heroes and will features lots of new and weird monsters, plus some old familiar ones return.
Without giving too many spoilers for the earlier books... Wart has finally escaped and things are looking up for him. So of course it's about to all go disastrously wrong.
Please check our campaign and of course share it everywhere you can.
Ammar & Chris
WART : A cosmic horror comic is a project which couldn't have been possible without the internet and Reddit. Comic artist Ammar Al-Chalabi and writer Chris Welsh met via Reddit and started a little project called WART. What started as a webcomic quickly turned into three fully-fledged books filled with big monsters, eldritch dimensions and inept cultists.
WART is about an unfortunate man with an unfortunate name who is trapped in an insane asylum. Unbeknownst to him he is able to travel to different dimensions (or he's pulled into other dimensions against his will). While an insane asylum isn’t the best place to be, these dimensions are filled with huge monsters and terrible dangers.
Following WART in the first three books you’ll see these dimensions and meet colourful characters who either help him or try to kill him. Sometimes both. Poor Wart never really knows what is going on but slowly he is trying to get a grip on his dire situation.
While intentionally we started as a serious horror comic things got a bit sillier along the way. The art style and Chris’s writing helped with that. What we ended up is a weird little horror tale with lots of British humour.
This leads us to this Kickstarter for Book Four! While Book Three gave some resolution to the story, we are gladly continuing this weird tale with Wart and his friends finding new monsters to battle or run away from.
Pledging to this Kickstarter means you’ll be helping us print and ship our books all around the world. We have been sending book 1, 2 and 3 all over and would love to do the same with book 4!
For this Kickstarter we wanted to keep it nice and simple and give the people what they want. That is the book!
Especially for this Kickstarter you are able to join the WART bandwagon by buying all 4 books for only €10! What a bargain! That offer will last the first two weeks, then the price will rise a little bit.
The digital versions of the book have everything the print versions have. You can view them as a PDF or CBZ on pretty much every device using your favourite comic book reader.
Some digital rewards have extras! First we have NESS. An awesome tale of the Loch Ness monster written by Chris Welsh and drawn by Rob Carey. You’ll find the first book of this story in some digital packs.
It looks a bit like this:
Second we have a collection of one page comics drawn and written by Ammar Al-Chalabi included in our digital packs.
Our print version will be printed the same as the old books and will feature an awesome wrap-around cover.
We also have a new collection of cool A5 art cards and new art prints drawn by WART artist Ammar Al-Chalabi.
The art cards will come in a collection of 4 cards.
If you buy an art print you can choose whichever one you want. Please check this graphic for the appropriate number. If you want to have more art prints just send us a message and we'll let you know what you need to add to your pledge!
This wouldn’t be a WART Kickstarter without the trusty WART t-shirt! Wearing this shirt is known to attract weird monsters and wild people so beware! We have the shirt in both 'male' and 'female' fit, sizes S through to XL.
The last two rewards will give you the book and either a sketch or full inked and coloured art print all made by Ammar. You can choose what you would like drawn or let Ammar drawn some weird monsters or something.
Who are those handsome devils who make this weird little book you say? I thought I hear you say that ... no? well anyways :
CHRIS WELSH - WRITER/BAROWNER/TYRE-SWING-EXPERT
Chris is a novelist/screenwriter/comic writer/columnist/’anything that has words in’ writer. He lives in Liverpool, England with his beloved laptop and too many books.
A script he wrote about time travel and the end of the world made it to the semi-finals of the Bluecat Screenplay Competition. Top 2% out of the almost 4500 scripts that entered.
He mostly writes horror, mostly, with dashes of comedy, sci-fi and fantasy. If only he could pick one damn genre, he might be more successful. His writing has been called 'witty' (by Ammar) and 'perfectly fine I suppose' (by his old high school English teacher, about 12 years ago). You can find him at cwelsh.co.uk or on Twitter as @C_W_Writes He writes all of his ‘About Me’ text himself, but does it in the third person so it seems like he has an assistant to do it for him.
AMMAR AL-CHALABI - ARTIST/COLOURIST/LETTERER/BADASS
Ammar is a professional graphic designer by day and an illustrator by night, so his tablet pencil has permanently fused with his hand (making him a slightly less cool Ash from Evil Dead). A bunch of his work can be found on zombieburger.com. He has worked with professional metal bands and production companies. After reading way too many H.P. Lovecraft stories and slowly going mad he was finally inspired to create his own setting and stories in the wonderful genre that is cosmic horror. Ammar was last seen starting a doomsday cult in his home country the Netherlands but hasn't yet left the first bar. This is the exact same bio he used last time because he considers it perfect.
Although we want to keep this Kickstarter nice and simple we do have some cool stretch goals in mind if we reach certain numbers. Have a look:
€4000 - Everyone who pledges will receive a digital mini comic written and drawn by the WART team called HORROR IN SPACE. Inspired by this artwork by Ammar, Chris wrote the story which will be drawn and included for everyone.
€5000 - Everyone will receive a digital preview of the new graphic novel which is also written and drawn by the WART team called AMERICAN MALEVOLENCE. This comic started as a movie script written by Chris but changed to a comic script. Ammar made a preview of 17 pages and everything is coloured by Juliette Heeren (juheeren.nl)
Risks and challenges
We now have 2 successful Kickstarters under our belt (Chris even more with his other projects!). We have learned a lot and will make sure this Kickstarter runs as smoothly as possible.
As for book 4. It's completely finished. All the pages, the cover even the production of the book is 100% complete. We know where we want to print it and as soon as we this Kickstarter is successful we will send the files to the printer.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
