Axmaniac is a horror comic and a back-to-basics slasher story straight from the 80s! Follow a group of friends as they enter the woods and become victims of the aXmaniac!
*edit Today I have revealed the cover for aXmaniac! To go with the eighties theme the cover will feel at home in every dingy videostore in the late 80s and 90s
Axmaniac is a new horror comic in the style of Friday the 13th and Halloween. Bringing the slasher genre back to its basics! Follow a group of friends, ready to party in a secluded cabin in the woods, as they are hunted and killed by the aXmaniac!
All your favorite horror movie tropes are included in this rollercoaster ride of 23 pages!
WARNING : Despite the cartoony art-style this comic is for mature readers only! It contains sex, violence and lots of blood.
The goal of this Kickstarter is to print my 23 page comic aXmaniac in full color! The comic is completely finished and on a successful Kickstarter the files will be sent to the printer right away.
If we hit stretch goals numerous fun things will be unlocked. Mostly expanding the book with pinups by other artists and original sketches.
The comic is already finished. It's full color, A4 sized and in English. Only thing that needs to be done is to put the book together, which I will do during the Kickstarter campaign. I will also reveal the cover midway through the campaign.
Here are some pages to give an impression of the art style and storytelling.
The year is 1982. Big hair and tight clothes reign supreme. A group of friends are enjoying their summer break and headed for a secluded cabin in the woods. The group consists of two couples and a sister of one of the guys.
Barely unpacked, Jeff and Emma excuse themselves to get nasty in the woods. This ends badly as an unseen killer splices open the head of Emma mid coitus.
This scene (which is in the first 5 pages) sets the tone and pace of aXmaniac. A slasher movie condensed in 23 pages and hitting all the beats.
Dave (the jock) - musclebound but surprisingly smart. Dave is the brother of Alex and boyfriend of Lisa
Lisa (the trailer trash) - A little trashy and smokes. Girlfriend of Dave
Jeff (the prep) - Owns the Oldsmobile and has rich parents. You better not drink in his car! Boyfriend of Emma
Emma (the airhead) - Emma likes to date rich guys and make sure they stay with her. Girlfriend of Jeff
Alex (the loner) - Alex is on the hunt for guys but will face a trial of fire when someone hunts her! Sister of Dave

My name is Ammar Al-Chalabi and I work as a freelance illustrator / comic artist. Based in the Netherlands. I've been a die-hard horror fan for many years and I've always had a weak spot for the Slasher genre. That is why I decided to create my own slasher story. It all started with a fake comic cover I made a couple of years ago.
AXmaniac is the first comic I created art for, wrote myself and actually finished! All in a span of 2.5 months, working on it every evening and weekends.
You can follow me on Instagram (@zombieburger80) to see what other crazy things I make.
When working on the WART comic I turned to Kickstarter a couple of times to fund the printing of the books. The instant communication with fans and backers is wonderful and it enables me to reach a larger audience then I ever could.
With Kickstarter I'll be able to self-publish my book, cutting out the middle man and make myself available for feedback and critique.
As there are no productions costs (the comic is already made) all money will go to the printing of the books and shipping. I might celebrate with a beer though if the Kickstarter is successful.
Risks and challenges
Production-wise the book is nearly finished. All the comic pages are done as is the cover. I just need to (literally) put the book together.
The printer has already been selected and will have a delivery of 2 weeks . Shipping all the books will be a challenge I'm certainly looking forward to doing.
I have done several Kickstarters for Wart and have (on my part) always delivered the goods.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
