It's happened to all of us. We put a load of laundry in the washing machine – including several pairs of socks – and, invariably, we always wind up with an odd number in the end. Where does that one sock go? It's out fighting crime, obviously!
My name is Rick, but my friends and students call me Rickman. Teaching kids how to create comics for over 10 years has shown me that the medium can be used for the communication of any idea. This comic may be a fun little experience, but I have used the original story to inspire and motivate kids to create their own characters and art for a long time. Seeing this comic to publication will help to inspire them even further.
SOCK is a 32 page B&W comic with a color cover, that is suitable for all ages. This comic has been a germ in my head for a number of years. The idea came to me during the 1999 San Diego Comic Con while at the pool with friends after a day at the show. The conversation turned toward the weirdest comic characters we knew. Flaming Carrot, The Tick, Ed the Happy Clown, Reid Fleming: World's Toughest Milkman, Sam and Max: Freelance Police, were all tossed about. The question was asked: what would be the wackiest thing to make into a comic? As my feet dangled in the water I glanced toward my shoes and saw my socks. I reached for my sketchbook (always next to me) and "SOCK" was born.
Shortly thereafter a SOCK eight page mini-comic was published, as well as SOCK being a feature in the anthology "All You Can Eat Comics" in 2000. In 2014 I decided to write the additional stories that make up this current incarnation.
SOCK's adventures are wordless. The stories are told without exposition or dialogue. There is only one caption box and one word balloon in the whole book! Join SOCK on his very first adventure where he takes on street crime, and his newest adventures that include a Super Villain and a Kaiju! All three stories are newly toned in glorious black and white, just like the comics I loved back in the 80's.
I'm asking for $1750.00. That will get the book printed and cover expenses for creating perks for the various levels, as well as shipping all of that to you.
I understand that everyone can't afford to pledge, and that's cool. If you want to help, please spread the word! Use the share tools! Use social media! And, hey, you could even TALK to people! I hear that's a thing. I really appreciate all of your help!
This book has been a dream for quite some time. I hope you will do me the honor of your pledge, and I will deliver the coolest comic book about an undergarment you can imagine!
Not a 'Stretch Goal' but as an 'Over Goal Thank You Gift', if we get to $2250 I will add to every pledge of $10 or more a Mini Pin-Up Pack!
Included will be images by my good friends and fantastic artists printed up as awesome mini posters! So let's get to the next level! Spread the word of SOCK!

Risks and challenges
I have been in the graphic design and publishing fields for over 25 years. I've been a teacher for most of that time. I've taught children and adults from 4 - 65. I was a student at The Kubert School, formerly the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art, located in Dover, New Jersey, in the 90's. I returned a few years later as an instructor for five years.
I am also the creator of the children's book "Zach Meets The Zombie", and the comics "Fishman" and "The Incredibly Unbalanced Adventures of Bob."
So, I have the unique ability to create a comic book from concept to completion. I am confident that, with the proper funding, I will be able to overcome any challenge put before me on the quest to publish this comic! NOTHING CAN STOP ME!! BWAH-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!
...except funding. So, please pledge. Thank you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
