Q&A: Early MacVentures and Beyond Shadowgate!

Hey all!

In this video update, I talk about the early "MacVentures" that were never released for one reason or another and go into a bit more about Beyond Shadowgate - a sequel to the Mac/PC version of Shadowgate. The game was eventually turned into as a side scrolling adventure for the Turbo Graphics but what was the original first-person adventure about? Well, we're glad you asked!

A couple of other quick things...

If you're a FB user, help spread the word! Please consider liking and sharing this post that talks about the final week of our campaign. We appreciate it :)

Also, I need to give a shout out to our friends at Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption! They are lovely people with a great game concept and their campaign ends in less than 2 days so please head on over and help them out!

Thanks everyone!

From your sketches of Beyond Shadowgate, it looked like the game was intended to have the look and feal of the first one, will the remake be based on your original plans for the game in the same spirit as the first one?

And the last game Shadowgate 64 was made with a 3d engine, making the game more of a Elder Scrolls type of game. Would you consider to use a licensed engine like Unreal Engine 3 for the Beyond Shadowgate and the future sequels?

The games should look absolutely awesome with the UE3, because the engine is advanced enough to produce high quality graphics. I am quite sure that this engine will be quite cheaper next year because of the release of UE4 for the next generation of consoles and so forth. That will make it easier for smaller companies to adapt the engine into their games.

Beyond Shadowgate was released for the Turbo CD, but as Dave mentioned in the video, the game that was released was a side scroller. However, the design documents and original production of the game were, if my understanding is right, for a game that played more like the original Shadowgate, but on a much larger scale! If they could make Beyond Shadowgate again, I bet it would play more like the original Shadowgate than the Turbo CD version that was released.

lol nm it was still called Beyond Shadowgate, I never got to check out many of the CD games despite the TG16 being one of my fav consoles.

Is there any ANY way at all that we can get a scan or a remake of your design journal for Shadowgate?

I can't imagine I'm the only one that would want a look at that book...

Nice update. I like hearing about the old games you were involved in. Did Helios ever get made? That title sounds awfully familiar, but maybe it was another game - or I'm imagining it. Well, at least you got to spend time in Hawaii.

And thanks for the Hero-U shout-out. I have no doubt Lori & Corey will come through for you in the final push for Shadowgate, too. They are both very worthy projects that I really want to see funded.

Another update ^_^ Woot! When you showed the book I was practically drooling over the pages. Man, I want Shadowgate to become a franchise SO BAD so we can get future games like that (in HD of course :P). Hears hoping Shadowgate surpasses it's Kickstarter goal!
