A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. The Snap Pro Backstory
Snap Pro was made by the connected home labs team at Zmodo. The project team is based out of Champaign, IL - home of high tech spun out of the University of Illinois. We work closely with our corporate headquarters in Shenzhen and manufacturing facilities in Jiangsu to shape the next wave of smart home devices.
Product Design Process
The team's goal with this project was to create the easiest to use smart security camera. To accomplish this, we interviewed people that own "old school" security cameras, newest generation smart security cameras or own/rent a home and are interested in home monitoring.
Common things we heard include:
Make it small. It should be able to fit in small nooks and blend into the look and feel of my home.
Make it beautiful. It should look good in my home. Be a design object. Not look like a giant hunk of plastic.
Make it wireless. Wires are a hassle to deal with and messy to look at. They make installation a pain.
Make it secure. To be trusted, the product needs to be held to a high security standard.
Make it see more. Less blind spots. More wide-viewing angle.
Make it modular. It should be easy to move the camera to a new spot, indoors or outside, based upon my needs for that day.
Make it affordable. Most families are on a budget. Home monitoring must be more affordable. No hidden maintenance costs. No "gotchas" with the cloud plan.
Make it easy to use. Easy setup. Pairs with a smartphone app. Reliable. US-based support team when I need it. Good warranty.

Snap Pro's Debut at CES 2018
Snap Pro has been in development for the past four years. We debuted the product at CES 2018 and received input from the community that we've been working hard to address.
Kickstarter Pre-Orders Ship by October 2018
Our R&D and UX group just wrapped up Beta testing of our functional samples, and we're ready to share the final version of Snap Pro with the Kickstarter community. Our manufacturing partner is established, and they have manufactured all of our samples through functional prototypes. With the support of the Kickstarter community, we're ready to accept pre-orders, manufacture our first run and ship devices to early backers by October 2018! Just a few months away.
Our goal is to raise $25,000 in pre-orders through a Kickstarter campaign starting in July 2018 and running for 45 days.
Our rewards are all functional products that will be ready to ship out by October 2018. They're organized into bundles including a 1-pack, 2-pack and add on camera.
**UPDATE as of August 3, 2018** Based upon backer feedback, we applied the following modifications to our Rewards:
Removing the Add On camera, as backers can only support one reward.

Snap Pro is one of the smallest smart security cameras on the market. At 2.83" x 2.67" x 1.45", it is about the size of a deck of cards. Snap Pro fits any spot around your home - doorways, porches, shelves, coffee tables and window ledges. Snap Pro also fits in tiny spots that historically were hard to capture footage from - cat perches, jack-o-lanterns, dollhouses, even behind a dog's water bowl. It only weighs 6.17oz, which makes it easy to lift and install for all body types. Being so light weight, it puts low strain on your walls or siding, if you opt to use the optional mounting bracket.
No wires, less hassle. Use the optional mounting bracket to install Snap Pro up high, out of reach and view. Magnetically attach Snap pro. Swivel and reposition the camera to achieve the perfect viewing angle while looking at the live-stream from the app.
Most smart security cameras in market today only see 120 - 140 degrees. Snap Pro has a wide viewing angle and can see 180 degrees. 180 degrees matters, as it means less blind spots where things (or people) can hide.
Batteries can often be a hidden cost factor with smart security cameras. Snap Pro's battery is rechargeable and comes with the charging cable. The battery lasts the entire season. You can check the battery's status in-app. Or, when it gets low, you'll receive an alert. Pop out the battery and recharging takes place in about four hours.

You can set up Snap Pro faster than you can make a bag of popcorn. Unbox Snap Pro. Plug in the hub. Insert the battery in the camera. Download the app. Connect the app to your WiFi. Scan a QR code. Name your device. And... you're done.

Snap Pro has you covered,
indoors or out. Position Snap Pro to get 180 degree coverage of your front porch or backyard. The battery lasts an entire season on one charge, and you can monitor the battery’s
status via the app. Also, with
an IP54 waterproof rating, it’s ready to handle the wayward sprinkler.

Get full coverage of your home with a 1-pack of 2-pack Snap Pro package and add-on Snaps. One hub can pair with up to four Snap Pros. Set up your first Snap Pro. When you add additional Snaps, the WiFi information is shared automatically between cameras to save you time and effort.

The Snap Pro features a 3 year limited warranty and lifetime US-based tech support. The Customer Care team is based out of Champaign, IL and maintains hours from 8am - 8pm for live support, so you can talk to a real person when you need to. When Snap Pro ships out ot early backers in October 2018, Zmodo's Support section of site will be updated to include topics threads and "how to" videos to make setting up and owning a Snap Pro straightforward. Hardware Integration w/ the App
Snap Pro pairs with an Android and iOS application to set up your device, monitor your device, modify settings, access/download clips and share access to your camera with other family members.
The mobile application is fully developed. Currently Snap Pro pairs with Zmodo's app (Google Play, iTunes) and the meShare IoT platform (Google Play, iTunes). For reference, in our Kickstarter video and "how to" videos on this page, we feature Snap Pro paired with the meShare application. Both apps support Apple and Android operating systems.
Set Up Snap Pro Using the App
In this video, Jasper from the Zmodo Labs team and a UX Specialist, provides a step-by-step demo of how Snap Pro's hardware pairs with the mobile app to set up Snap Pro.
Summary of Snap Pro setup procedure:
Plug in the hub into a power outlet.
Insert Snap Pro's battery in the camera. Snap Pro will turn on.
Download the meShare app on iTunes or Google Play.
Create an account with a valid email address or phone number.
Log in to your account. Connect the app to your WiFi network.
A QR code will be generated and displayed on the app's screen.
Make sure your phone is not in silent mode, as you'll follow auditory prompts for next steps.
Position the QR code in front of Snap Pro's camera approximately 8" apart. Doing so will pass WiFi information to the camera.
When the camera is paired, the camera's LED will be solid blue and you'll hear a confirmation message.
Follow the final prompts in the mobile app to name you're device, and setup is complete.

Motion Detection: when something is moving in the camera's view, the camera's motion sensor detects and analyzes the motion to wake up the camera from its energy-saving mode. Snap Pro was designed to have an extremely fast wake up time - under 5 seconds.
Event Alerts: receive a push notification when motion is detected on camera when an event has occurred. Dismiss alert notifications or tap in to the notification to view the camera's live feed or the event clip within the app.
Event Clip Storage: Snap Pro comes with a free Basic Plan that stores clips for 7 days. Select "Events" from the app to see recent events that have occurred.
Save a Clip: Save your favorite clips to your Gallery in the app and on your phone's local gallery. Smart Clips feature will omit the uninteresting parts from a saved video clip (such as moments in time where there is no motion occurring).
Uninterrupted Live Viewing: after you tap in to a camera's livestream, enjoy uninterrupted live viewing. See something you want to save? You can record a clip even from the livestream.
Take a Photo: Use the feature to zoom in on a timeline. Find the spot and snap a pic with the camera icon.
Modes: pre-set modes include Away, Home, Sleep or Wake Up. Tap into any mode to modify settings to ensure you receive alerts when you want to (or not at all).
Sharing: share your camera's feed with select family members or friends.

Risks and challenges
Challenges the product team has addressed:
Product Design - our product design is locked, tested and approved. We've tested our design with smart home enthusiasts to people getting started with connected devices.
Product Features - our product features are locked. For the past four years, we've prototyped and evolved Snap Pro to be an easy-to-use product.
Integrations - Presently we're wrapping up integration testing to make Snap Pro compatible with Alexa. The approval process for this feature should take another month, however we feel confident that it will be completed by the time we ship backers' pre-orders in October.
Manufacturing - Zmodo is unique in its ability to manage product quality from concept, design through manufacturing and distribution. Zmodo owns a manufacturing facility in Jiangsu. This facility has already led multiple runs of non-functional, functional and now fully featured prototypes. Our plans are in place to be able to produce a full first run within the Kickstarter timeline identified.
Distribution - Zmodo has distribution personnel, procedures and systems in place that have successfully shipped products worldwide since 2009. Snap Pro will fit seamlessly into our distribution processes, and ship out from our Champaign, IL warehouses in October 2018.
Firmware - we are iterating on the firmware for the product to make improvements. We anticipate completion of these updates by late August to make us ready for production in September - October time frame.
Battery Color: Please note in our Kickstarter video the battery portrayed is gray whereas the final battery's color will be white. This difference is merely aesthetic, however we wanted to make you aware.
We believe that project risks have been reasonably addressed at this point in time.
