Since the 1950's, metal drywall corner beads have been used to create outside corners inside residential homes and commercial buildings. The idea for Zeepers started when I noticed my 4-year-old son Kaden playing with toy magnets on a window sill, sticking them to an outside drywall corner. At first it was shocking, but the instant revelation was that the magnets were attracted to the hidden metal corner bead(not a gateway to the End Portal-Kaden loves minecraft).
Zeepers™ began as a side project comprised of a series of trips to hobby stores and online purchases of magnets of all shapes and sizes. Once I found magnets strong enough to hang various objects on the corners of my house, the design phase began. The initial designs were very rudimentary and the CNC prototypes proved them to be catastrophic failures. Due to time constraints and priority of other projects, the “magnet project” was shelved.
A couple of years later, my brother Mike brought me home from surgery and random chunks of plastic and metal on the corners inside my house instantly caught his attention. And his suggestion of “Hey, you should do something with that” revived the project. In the interim, we had acquired a 3D printer so now I could create designs with virtually instant feedback and eliminate the delay waiting for CNC or other 3rd party prototyping. Within a few weeks we had a hinged version of the magnets (also Mike's suggestion) and then it was time to figure out what exactly to do with it. Initially, the plan was to just stick objects to the magnets with Velcro or glue, but it quickly became obvious that connecting the magnets together offered more holding power and infinitely more possibilities. First came the connectors, then hooks and other accessories to give the magnets some utility, and that led to what has now become Zeepers.
How it Works
Patent Pending Zeepers are basically strong magnets surrounded by an injection-molded material of ABS plastic or other polymer. The plastic bodies are connected together by an integrated hinge that allows the magnets to lay flat or hang on corners of varying angles. The surface that comes in contact with the wall is covered with a layer of rubber or elastic gel engineered to give Zeepers traction, but is also gentle on painted walls and surfaces. Zeepers contain holes, hooks, and other features that allow connectors, attachments, and accessories to be inserted into them or otherwise attached to them. Zeepers can be connected together in infinitely long chains or the length of your corner(whichever is LESS) to increase the holding power and capacity of the magnets.
What YOU Can do With Zeepers
If you take a look around your home, office, hotel, or dorm chances are you see lots of corners that would be perfect for Zeepers. Those corners have long been neglected and overlooked by any kind of product that offers utility or decoration. We'd like to change that. Our initial goal is to produce a Starter Kit version of the product. This kit would include basic hooks, mounting discs, and connectors. We have thought of many different uses for Zeepers, but we believe that the real potential of the product is in how it is actually used in different ways by you. Future accessories and designs will be based on direct feedback and input from actual users. Here are just a few things you can do with Zeepers:
Zeepers is by nature a product that requires significant capital investment for multiple molds, tooling, and materials. And we are seeking backers in the Kickstarter Community to join us as we take the next step into production. Zeepers is not a concept. It is a fully functional product that has been proven, tested, designed for manufacturability, and approved for mold design and production. We are currently pre-production and ready to move it into the next phase of mass production.
With your support we plan to begin production with a Zeepers Starter Kit that will contain everything you need to start using your corners to simply organize or hang the things that you can't seem to keep track of, or display photos and personal items in unusual ways. Zeepers will come in a variety of colors and materials and will be compatible and customizable with future products. We hope that you will join us and be among the first to receive one. Your early feedback and ideas with also help us with future accessories and designs.
