ZionEyez Update

Posted by ZionEyez Team (Creator)

Dear ZionEyez Backers,

We want to thank you for your patience, ZionEyez has been working tirelessly to make Eyez a reality and to exceed your expectations in the meantime.

An update on our progress:

In order to produce Eyez using the most technologically advanced methods available, ZionEyez has partnered with an Engineering/Design firm based in Silicon Valley, San Francisco. Together, we have been collaborating to design and manufacture Eyez harnessing the same processes and materials that leading technology manufacturers utilize to produce their products. Perfection takes time and money, we have invested both.

In order to meet the standards that we've vowed to deliver, we have partnered with Asian manufacturers to leverage their state-of-the-art facilities.

Our proposed shipping date is still Winter Season, 2011. We will give you more insight as Eyez come closer to shipment.

Once again, thank you for your support and patience throughout the process, we understand that everyone is excited and eager to receive Eyez. We look forward to delivering your pair of Eyez as fast as possible, without compromising their integrity.

Thank you for your support.

-The ZionEyez Team

Ski hills close around march/april, so it might be a few months....

Also does any one know what size the glasses are suppose to be ?
There is nothing in the blurb about what size they are.

    4. Mohammed Tasleem Sabir on

Taz, I think we were promised something and it has not been delivered. We have kept our side of this transaction. 2 more day and Winter 2011 will be over.

Lee, 2011 ends this week, though. Winter might carry on, but not winter 2011.

This would be a good time for the ZionEyez team to post another update.. it does seem odd that the last update was two months ago..

Winter carries into the next year guys, December, January, Febuary...

4 more days in 2011, and still no survey? Seems like they missed their ship date --without a single word about it. Anyone have any evidence they didn't just take the money and run?

" Proposed shipping date is still Winter Season 2011 " - Umm, Christmas is gone, New year's coming soon. Are you sure that wasn't a typo ZionEyez Team ?

Is this project really exists? An update from the developers would be welcome as I begin to think it's a scam!

They said "Winter Season" ...Winter just started in the 21st of December... Can we get a Winter update?

I sent both the Eyez team, and Kickstarter a message. No reply from Eyez, but kickstarter said to give it time.

I have not heard of anyone ever getting a refund from a Kickstarter project that failed to produce. I've had one person offer to give me a refund, but I'm still hoping to get the item someday (and it was only a few bucks). As for the "what Winter Season 2011 means" issue, I think that has been covered on the main Comments thread. At one time, the FAQ on the ZionEyes web site actually said "no later than March 20, 2012". At this point, I think that our efforts are better put to getting Kickstarter to prevent projects from using this kind of vague delivery date in the future.

I contacted ZionEyez to ask if "Winter Season 2011" really meant the product would ship in 2011, as I wanted to buy a second pair for my brother's birthday (31st December). That was a couple of months ago. I haven't had a reply.

well there are 18 days left in "the winter of 2011" any update guys?

    27. Tony Sebastian Ukpo on

Not holding my breath on shipping date, though the engadget post made me even more impatient, seeing another physical prototype floating round. Better to have it next year than receive something half baked. Assumed as much with a development project like this, for it to take time and have delays, but shows they working on it. Another update would be nice though

    28. Missing avatar

      David Elliott on

Engadget got to play with a prototype, and the article indicates that ZionEyes has a lot of work to do, and then they have to get it into manufacturing. I don't see them sending out questionnaires until they are much closer to actually shipping, and that could still be over 3 months from now. I've seen a number of KS projects send out their surveys right after funding, and then have to deal with address changes when they finally start shipping a few months later.

    29. wildone81 on

Well, given how Engadget has an actual hands-on with a physical unit, I imagine it's actually real. The question now is, if they've given out a more solid timeframe, why haven't they even sent out the questionnaires so that they can actually ship them to all us backers? I honestly believe we are more deserving than anyone else that pre-ordered after the fact to timely updates and actual physical units.

John, if you look at the main comments thread, you will see that ZionEyes has now defined what they mean by "Winter Season 2011". They are now saying that the devices will ship no earlier than December 22 and no later than March 20, 2012 (which is pretty much what some of us were already assuming). I'm not expecting to see mine until late March (and I'm backer #3).

It's interesting to see how different Kickstarter groups interact with their own backers. Many are quite hands-off, some have sporadic updates, while others give ongoing updates and get their backers involved outside of Kickstarter. It would be nice if the Kickstarter teams thought through how their own backers will solidify them in the marketplace or actively badmouth them on Twitter/Facebook/etc. Knowing how to keep your brand above the waterline is always hard, especially for "start-up" types like those found on Kickstarter, but for anyone reading this that would like some insight, all you really have to do is communicate. Doesn't matter if it is good news, bad news, or letting people know there will be a delay; any news is good news. I just hope more Kicstarter projects take that to heart.

It's Winter Season. About time for that ~one-to-two-month update.

This is the first time I have backed a project on Kickstarter. So, as @Christian Skorik has pointed out, there is a real possibility that I have to write off this money :( The least that ZionEyez can do is to at least give an update now.

    35. Missing avatar

      David Elliott on

@Michael, they have really never defined what they mean by "Winter Season 2011". It could simply mean the general time around winter starting in 2011, and since the project is located in Seattle, that could mean as late as the end of April. They have been purposely vague. Also, at this point if you want any info from ZionEyes, it works best to send a direct message to them and to Kickstarter. That's the only way I've seen so far to get ZionEyes to say anything at all. They pretty much ignore us otherwise.

      Shaun on

I'm almost surprised that with all the recent activity around video's being taken around the Occupy wall st movement that you're not getting some kind of push to delay or cancel production all together.

    37. Missing avatar

      Shaun on

As we get closer to the expected delivery date, you should be givng out updates more frequently. I think I speak for all here that it's about time for another update.

Even notice of late delivery is better than sitting in the dark :)

    38. Christian Skorik on

I wish I could just get a video from you guys. I've sponsored a couple of kickstarter projects that went bust and now that I realize I have zero recourse when that happens it makes me very nervous. Seems like kickstarter is just a venue for throwing cash out the window.

    39. Michael Milner on

Hey Guys, How are things going??? As we are pretty much deep in Winter 2011 and there is 4.6 weeks left in the year I was just trying to get an idea of a shipping date. I guess I am checking to see if this item will be under the old christmas tree this year.

    40. Matthew Graham on

      Gents,

How are you getting on, do you think you'll make delivery before Christmas.... even to us poor Londoners? :P

    41. Leslie Bernal on

I think they're one size only but could be wrong. It would be great to get this in time for christmas :D

    42. Missing avatar

      David Elliott on

They haven't asked for delivery addresses yet, so you don't need to do anything.

    43. Joe Ha on

I need to change my delivery address, what should i do?

    44. Missing avatar

      Sathyavageeswaran R on

@kickstarter: since the 'winter 2011' session is less than 45 days, can you guys at least initiate the process of collecting the shipping address etc. from the backers? In case there are different sizes for people from the west and the rest, you can even ask people to give their choice while collecting the shipping address info.

I am happy for any kind of update. This is a good start. Maybe in a couple of weeks we can get another one?

Manufacturing in Asia is ok. Just not in New York. They take all our Maryland jobs.

    49. Michael Milner on

I, too, am not bothered by the Asia production. But, These glasses better fit my head. I hope they are not measured by an Asian model. I ordered a Lunatik watch band for my Apple Nano and it doesn't fit my wrist so that was a waste of time and money. I was promised that these glasses are like the RayBan Wayfarer type, if so, they should fit fine. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
