About

Welcome to the mesmerising world of Planet Zingoshi

Hi, we're a team of content creators who believe young girls deserve quality entertainment. Zingoshi is a fabulously fun and entertaining video game for 7-12-year-old girls, designed to empower and inspire them to become creative leaders. We've worked extremely hard on this for a very long time, and we have achieved a great deal. Now it is time to raise the money to complete this wonderful game, and that is why we're here. Girls everywhere are ready for Zingoshi, and we can't wait to deliver it. We are well on the way, and with your help, we can do this!

Get the Game

  • If we hit this campaign's target of NZ$100K, (approx USD$60K), everyone who donated $75 or more to this campaign will get the code to download Episode One of Zingoshi, when completed!

Delight, wonder and excitement!

Zingoshi is an adventure game. The player is a human child who has been brought to Planet Zingoshi to help solve a mystery. With help from Queen Muriel and other local zingerals (magical winged human-like creatures), she explores Zingoshi and pieces clues together. At the same time, she learns creative leadership skills in a variety of ways, for example, by mediating between feuding zingeral kids Willa and Warren - no easy task!

Zingoshi is a narrative, third person top-down PC game, with emphasis on adventure, exploration and puzzle solving. It’s completely non-violent. Exciting augmented reality elements are woven throughout the experience, that the player can activate using a second device if they choose to (tablet or mobile).

So much to love...

We're really proud that Zingoshi has been created to empower young girls, and we're committed to portraying females in positive, non-objectifying ways. One of our favourite things about Zingoshi, (and something that parents and kids love, too), is this:

Zingoshi is a video game that is played both on AND off the computer! Sometimes the kid actually has to get off the device and go and do something in the real world, as part of the gameplay. Most of these activities contain STEAM elements (science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics).

We also love the fact that in Zingoshi, the player earns rewards such as inspirational quotes/videos/music etc rather than traditional gaming rewards (i.e. weapons or points). Above all, what we love about Zingoshi is that it encourages self-awareness and guides kids in creative leadership life skills, as well as championing positive attributes such as kindness, integrity and respect. The world needs much more of this kind of loveliness!

There's nothing like a spot of mid-flight hovering, to pause and take in the beauty of Zingoshi!

Story

On a gloriously strange and beautiful planet called Zingoshi, zingeral Queen Muriel and her friend Officer Harrison are trying to wrangle a couple of kids into shape. These kids (Willa and Warren) are part of a very special group of human and zingeral children who are secretly being groomed to take over the leadership of Zingoshi one day. Meanwhile, Willa and Warren are far too busy playing pranks on each other to notice, and if the player doesn't help calm them down, this feud could escalate into something far more serious!

Queen Muriel explains to the player that she has learner wings to begin with...
Queen Muriel explains to the player that she has learner wings to begin with...

Backwards-flying birds and peculiar flying toddlers join zingerals with outrageously odd wings in a colourful forest, where the player must find all the clues to solve a mystery. Meanwhile, magic is afoot…

Uh oh. Warren has been glooped with hair gel, by Willabella...

Oh no. Proud Willa has been given a mo, by Warren.

Why is this project so important?

Zingoshi was created because we noticed a real gap in the market for 7-12-year-old kids – especially girls. Pre-adolescent girls have unique needs and they deserve quality entertainment. We’re developing a very special video game here, with Zingoshi.

The world has NEVER been readier for a positive video game offering for girls.

We're not the only ones who have noticed the lack of quality entertainment around for girls this age. The entertainment industry knows it, parents, grandparents and teachers know it, and of course, the kids feel it!

This is a massive, expensive project and we're endlessly working on finding the money for the next steps. Feedback from our community regularly confirms that this project needs to be made.  If you can see the value in creating something positive and inspiring for this fantastic age group, we'd love you to join us, to help fill this whopping gap in the market.

We've come so far. Now it's time to go even further. If we can raise the money we need, finish the game, and reach kids and parents on an international scale, we will be ecstatic. We already know that people love Zingoshi . The parents love the fact that it's narrative, it's beautiful and inspiring, it's gently educational, and it guides girls to become creative leaders. The girls love the fact that it's funny, challenging and exciting, includes cool technology, and deals with real issues of childhood. And, EVERYBODY loves the fact that it has birds in it that make farty noises...

Don't boys count, too?

Oh yes they do, absolutely! We know from our own research that lots of boys love this project just as much as girls do, and we have every reason to expect that kids will love playing Zingoshi, regardless of gender. We also know that parents of boys are crying out for inspiring content for their sons that doesn't demean females. The reason we call this a game for girls, is that we felt there was a dearth of quality content for girls available, depicting females in strong and positive ways, and empowering them to be themselves.

 Who are we?

Co-Founders Bridget Ellis-Pegler and Ronel Schodt

Hi, we are two NZ entrepreneurs and the founders of Zingoshi Ltd. We come from the film, TV and gaming industries, and we care deeply about quality entertainment for girls because we're mothers of daughters, ourselves. With Zingoshi, we're creating the kind of content we'd be happy for our own kids to experience. It's also the kind of content that kids actually love – not just what their parents think they should be consuming!

The Zingoshi Family

As a start-up, we shrink and grow as we need to, in order to run a tight ship. We work with an extraordinarily talented and supportive team of contractors, functioning as a 'virtual studio'. Most of us are based in Auckland, New Zealand. We also collaborate with a number of our team members, advisors and mentors elsewhere in NZ and also overseas, including Megan above, who's based in Seattle, USA. We're also hugely fortunate to have a number of incredibly high-calibre people as mentors and advisors supporting us, such as our beloved David Kleeman, former President of the American Center for Children's Media.

A word from our Narrative Designer, Ed McRae

The narrative in Zingoshi is about experiencing a story, not just being told one. Yes, there are lively and engaging characters like Willabella and Queen Muriel who love to have a chat about magic and all that's weird and wonderful about Planet Zingoshi. But they're really there to guide and help you with the puzzles, mysteries and adventures that festoon these exotic lands. The stories in Zingoshi are there to be explored and discovered as you help the local zingerals uncover and defeat the dark force that is threatening to destroy all that is amazing and inspiring. - Ed McRae.

Our wider transmedia project - The Zingoshi Chronicles

A reader activates a cool moment of augmented reality in 'Dragonfly'.
A reader activates a cool moment of augmented reality in 'Dragonfly'.

Our video game is part of a bigger project, called The Zingoshi Chronicles. So far, we have published a beautifully illustrated novel for young readers, Dragonfly.  We’ve also done some development work on our animated TV series. Now, we’re creating this magnificent adventure video game, Zingoshi. Both our game and our book are enhanced by exciting augmented reality. This campaign is to raise money to finish the video game.

 Merchandise

Our beautiful, magical story world lends itself perfectly to merchandise possibilities. As well as conventional merchandise, we will also have an innovative and fresh range of digital products, such as fun interactive experiences that include AR.

Marketing and PR

We successfully launched our first junior novel with augmented reality Dragonfly in 2018 and used this as a first step to raising awareness of this new brand. Our focus was here in New Zealand, where we had some high-profile PR, including radio and TV interviews. We will continue to build on the awareness campaign on an international level, focusing on elements we know will resonate with our dual audiences of young girls and their parents.

Why 'all or nothing'?

This is an all or nothing campaign. That means exactly what it says on the jar! You raise the lot, or, you get nothing. We chose this approach for 2 reasons. Firstly, because our goal is the minimum amount needed to finish our game - smaller sums will simply not get us to a viable point. Secondly, because Kickstarter is the biggest crowdfunding platform for games.

Financial goals

This campaign's goal: For $NZD 100K (approximately $USD 69,000 and EUR 60,000)

We can develop our game to allow the player 1.5 hours of play, finishing on an exciting cliff-hanger. Willabella and Warren have misused their magical powers and embarrassingly turned themselves into small, humorous creatures. The player crafts a potion and manages to restore them to their proper zingeral selves, but there’s much more mischief to undo, and time is of the essence!

Here is a breakdown of how this money will be spent.

Stretch goal 1: For $NZD 150 K (approximately $USD 103,500 and EUR 90,000)

We can add more technical refinements - more music, animations, optimisation, more on-screen/off-screen activities, and more STEAM elements. If we can develop the game to this point, the player’s skills will be in hot demand to help the zingeral kids by cracking codes, dodging butterbites, and dissipating arguments!

Stretch goal 2: For $NZD 200K (approximately $USD 138,000 and EUR 120,000)

Wow. If we reach $NZD 200K, we will be able to bring in more augmented reality, and deliver a polished product that yields 3+ hours of gameplay. And, the money would also help with launching Zingoshi into the market. This would be a dream come true.

Bonus!

In case you missed this earlier - if we hit this campaign's target of 100K, everyone who donated $75 or more to this campaign will get the code to download Episode One of Zingoshi when completed.

Perks

We've got brilliant perks, many of which you will literally get NOWHERE ELSE on the planet. (Not Planet Earth, anyway - naturally, Planet Zingoshi may be a different story!)

Risks and challenges

Our greatest concern is that despite all our hard work and the brilliant product we're developing, we won't be able to reach the substantial numbers we need to make this a viable financial proposition.

We've got a wonderfully supportive community of family, friends, industry peers and others interested parties (you might already be part of this and if you are, thank you!) - and we've started to make some noise about The Zingoshi Chronicles via social media, and via some PR we did for our book launch. Without money, though, there is only so far that we can go.

We may not be able to get the numbers we need alone - but together, we can move mountains. We're creative. We're determined. We're passionate. We're well-connected. And after many years of building this dream, we're pretty comfortable claiming that we are also MIGHTY tenacious!

How can you help?
Every tiny bit makes a difference, but don't worry if you can't donate, you can still be involved:
• Just telling people about our campaign is a huge help.
• Kickstarter has share tools that make it easy to spread the word about Zingoshi.
