Claire Desjardins contemporary abstract artist and Zhestia are collaborating for the Kickstarter campaign. She has created 2 paintings inspired by a "Hammam in Marrakesh". We are excited with this special project that is in line with our value of entrepreneurship, creativity and putting zest into lives.
Claire is one of the top-selling artists on Saatchi Art. U.S. retail chain, Urban Outfitters, sells her original artwork under their Anthropologie banner, online as well as in their New York, Chicago, and Montreal stores. Claire’s work has also appeared in Warner Brothers feature film, "Winter's Tale" (released in February, 2014).
Zhestia is an at-home travelling experience. In our intelligently designed box, we provide all the necessary highest quality elements to reproduce the most enlivening rituals of the world. We put zest in your daily routine.
What makes Zhestia different you wonder.... the Zhestia team is a curious bunch that travels to every destination to capture its authentic essence by doing research, photography, interviewing historians, architects, writers and recording local musicians but mostly by experiencing the rituals with the locals. We locally purchase the essential products, encourage entrepreneurship and craftsmanship, and give back part of our profit.

Our senses are the anchor of our memory and that is why Zhestia thoroughly researched how to make an authentic ritual through hearing, smell, touch, sight and taste.
Why experience a Travelling Moment from Zhestia?
Similar to a steam room, these ritual baths are an important part of the Moroccan culture. In the box you will have all the elements to recreate the hammam experience at home. The box contains the highest quality historical photo-book, music, Argan oil, black soap, kessah glove to exfoliate, Moroccan mint tea and a How-To Guide. It has been photographed, produced and sourced in Marrakesh in the most authentic manner.
The book. The book written by Myrtille Delamarche, with the collaboration of photographers Alan Keohane, Ingrid Pullar and Lyne Landry, will make you discover through a virtual ballad the history of Marrakech and its hammam to understand its profoundness. Use this book to learn about the land, the architecture and the people. Included is a curated selection of recent photographs and historical pictures from the Museum of photography of Marrakech.
The Music. A CD produced by MakaM for Zhestia of original tracks that are at the intersection of tradition and modernity. A ballad through Marrakesh’s deepest secrets. It will set the perfect mood of relaxation and will carry you towards your new experience.
A quest for “the” Marrakech sound is futile as the sound is a plurality. There are sounds heard in the streets, the maalems, the musicians, making it impossible to speak of only one type of Moroccan music. The recording sessions were done as the meetings progressed: a qanun player from the Sahara, a percussionist selling instruments on Jemaa el-Fna square, Berber musicians, gnaouas musicians recorded impromptu in the riyads, in a park, in the zaouïa, or even in their homes. In Morocco, silence does not exist. Music is everywhere.

With design inspirations that are a mix of the Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic and Scandinavian design, the focus is on elegant, natural, functional pieces that you will want to keep and reuse. While all of our packaging is either recyclable, with sustainability certification, or reusable, our focus is on reusable — we want these moments to last.
Give a second life to packaging. The Argan oil flask can be used to store flavoured kitchen oils, homemade vinaigrettes, or even as a small flower vase. The wood box can emerge as a storage container for scarves, jewelry or even for growing herbs. The tea box can transform into a jar for pens, pencils, buttons or coins. The uses for these beautifully designed objects are limited only by the imagination. Keep them, repurpose them, and let them have a life past their original utility.
We are ready, are you?! The next destinations are all underway and the additional funds via stretch goals will help create new destination experience boxes.
Finally it all comes together! After working hard on making quality and sustainable elements we have a completed prototype, proof of concept and selected manufacturers. With this Kickstarter campaign, Zhestia wants to raise funds needed to order inventory for the Morocco destination, print its first illustrated travel book, and begin fulfilling orders.
The Zhestia team is made of travellers, explorers, artists, and entrepreneurs from around the world. What we all have in common is a love of the authentic experience. There is joy in remembering the place where a moment happens. The smell of the air, the music, the ambiance, these are the essence of travelling moments, and these are the people who inspire and create them. From her hometown base in Montreal, Lyne has been travelling the world for work and pleasure throughout her life. For the past 8 years in her role as a strategic management consultant, she has worked with companies and institutions from Morocco to Kenya and Mozambique. Her focus is in strategic business planning, marketing, and starting or shaping up companies. While always planning that next trip, it is learning everyday that keeps her motivated. She is known to bring out the best in people, and she thrives in multicultural environments. Curious, enthusiastic and humanistic, she spends her free time as an energetic entrepreneur and as an amateur photographer with a passion for portrait and street photography.

Risks and challenges
The cost of printing a book and bringing all of these exotic ingredients together is quite high. While we have built a very successful prototype we still have the logistics to overcome, and have recruited an excellent firm to assist with that. The next biggest challenge is geography. All of our collaborators are spread throughout the globe and Zhestia truly runs on a 24 hour clock. If the Kickstarter campaign is successful we will need to coordinate closely to fulfill the Hammam orders with their exotic contents.
When challenges arise our strength is our team. While Zhestia runs a very lean ship, we have a deep bench. While none of our logistics, marketing, PR, design, fulfillment, or admin staff are full-time, they are all the best in their fields and have always been ready at a moments notice to overcome the unexpected setbacks that you must expect when you set out to do something grand.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
