Inspiring film about pushing boundaries, changing lives & making dreams come true. Pro surfer, Lakey Peterson, takes us on her journey.
The funds we raise from this campaign will be used towards post-production costs including, but not limited to; music licensing, editing and marketing. These costs add up faster than you can say "ca-ching" and our goal with this Kickstarter campaign is to fund a small fraction of the total expenses with money that we need right now to get the film finished in time for its premiere in Santa Barbara, CA at the end of January 2013.
As a film-maker I have worked with, or had my work featured by, most of the largest surf labels and publications out there. I understand the complexities and what it takes to get this film done - and I always deliver what I promise. It is a valid question to ask why I did not seek total financial backing from a major sponsor early on in the project, especially since Lakey is sponsored by Nike, Smith Sunglasses and Channel Island Surfboards? The reality is, and most film makers will agree, taking the independently produced road provides the artist with maximum creative control. While we do have some sponsors coming on board to back the project in its final stages, it is your support that helps us continue independently for as long as possible. My priority has been to ensure that Lakey and I were able to tell her inspiring story in her true voice - honoring her journey without the big guns watching over and taking control.
So - what's it all about? Read on and please let me know if you have any questions or comments on the project so far, or it's future. We plan on taking it nationally and internationally on tour and to film festivals. We are collaborators at heart and we would love to hear from you. Thanks for all your support and taking the time to read this.

Our mid-January goal has been driven by the exciting news that we have been accepted at the 28th Annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival. This festival takes place at the end of January/start of February 2013. Our film was selected from a trailer we submitted, and this opportunity will not only provide an incredible platform to showcase the film to a large audience but it will also provide the chance for us to meet with possible distributors who can help us get the film out into the broader market.
Zero to 100 has never been about making money - it has simply been the chance to tell a story, and a great one at that. However we do need your help with final editing, music licensing and marketing costs. $25,000 is the bare minimum we still need but really the sky is the limit as more money means the chance to take this film on the road to more film festivals, pay for additional marketing and release the film in other countries.
Just so you know where we are at right now.
- 95% of the footage complete and we are now working on editing (day and night) and the final few interviews with fellow world surfers and sports commentators. We are also working on securing the music licensing for a killer soundtrack.
- We have already had some financial backing from private investors and will receive some backing from Lakey's sponsors closer to completion. The private investors so far have helped pay for the worldwide travel needed to follow and film Lakey at all the Women's ASP World Tour events - and among other things we have rented lots of helicopters along the way to help us secure incredible footage which make the film visually stunning. We are beyond thankful for the support we have received so far.
- We have a guaranteed placement in the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF) - as long as we make the mid-January final film delivery date (and we will with your help!)
- We already have interest from organizations wanting to license Lakey's film for their event or as a fundraising gala event for their organization

So how do I guarantee the film will be completed by the end of January and ready to send out to you in February? The reality is no film maker can ever 100% promise that a project will be completed and delivered on time. There are so many moving parts along the way and although we have 95% of the footage already in post production there is still much to be done.
What I can guarantee is that behind this project is a deeply committed and passionate team who is working day and night. A team that believes this story needs to be told and will inspire people. To ensure you are kept in the loop, we will keep you updated with our progress and news weekly - by backing our project you become part of the team.
So in the very slim chance we don't make the mid-January deadline, what happens? Yes, we have thought about this as much as we don't like to. The answer is delays and unforeseen obstacles are a part of life, and in some industries more so than others. While we will do EVERYTHING in our power to make this deadline date (including not sleep for the next 7 weeks), if we don't make the film festival submission date then the film will still be completed as soon as possible and rewards will still be sent out to all our backers. The Zero to 100 Premiere and VIP party tickets will be transferred to a new date, which will take place in Southern California - most likely Santa Barbara or Los Angeles. We will also enter the film in other festivals worldwide and hope to get some traction there.
The Santa Barbara International Film Festival presents us with a great opportunity on so many levels so PLEASE HELP US MAKE THIS DEADLINE AND SHOW YOUR BELIEF IN OUR PROJECT and we promise to deliver a film we can all be proud to be a part of - including you!
