Immersive AAA-quality Indie FPS with RPG elements, tactical co-op & nonlinear gameplay set in a believable future.

3...2...1...Blast Off!

Hello everyone,

As we're writing this we just surpassed 1,000 backers so let us start by thanking each and every one of you who have supported us thus far! Your contribution means the world to us and it's a great start towards our ambitious goal – we know it's still a long way but with your help, we're confident that we will make it. So thanks!

Now that we're finally live, and have gotten a bit of much needed sleep, we're ready to tackle the next couple of things:

(remember that you can follow us on Facebook for our daily news and progress)

This is only the beginning!

Quite a few of you have voiced your opinion about our goal of $600,000 and, based on where we are now, that it will be hard to reach. This is true but please keep these things in mind:

  • We have not reached out to ANY press yet (planned for early next week), so what we have achieved so far – thanks to you – is a great feat! (our internal Kickstarter stats backs this up as well)
  • We have just lined up Total Biscuit to make a commentary/interview with us about our project – something we're super excited about and surely will get the ball rolling!
  • The more backers, the more ball rolling! (pun intended)
  • Lastly, we know this is a lot of money but it's the kind of money that we need to complete a thrilling experience that will be a blast to play! We wouldn't have it any other way.

We TOTALLY believe it's possible and with your help, we can easily surpass the goal!

YOU can help the dream come true

Help us make the goal by doing everything to spread the word around the project; share, comment, like, tweet, tell your friends about it, write about it on your forums and encourage your favorite game journalist to take a look at our project – nothing beats a good community buzz!

We've also prepared a bunch of beautiful campaign wallpapers below, ready to shine on all your PCs, Macs, Smartphones and Tablets:

What if I already supported you on InterstellarMarines.com?

We have prepared a Kickstarter FAQ for Early Supporters that you can check out to see what you are eligible for, and how to continue your support on this Kickstarter project. If you have any further questions do not hesitate to contact us via the Kickstarter page or by email (info@zeropointsoft.com).

What do I get if I pledge X dollars?

We have gotten a lot of questions about which rewards you receive if you pledge X amount of dollars. So we have prepared the following in-depth list with a full description of the rewards you will receive for a given tier. To find out more about a given reward, please refer to the main project page.

Also, for every $5 pledged, you will receive an additional Support Medal on your Game Identity (depicted by the images on each tier description.). If you pledge $1000 or above you will receive 25% extra Support Medals.

Bold text indicates new rewards compared to the previous tier.

This is an "early bird" version of the $20 tier, limited to 5000 backers.

Hell yeah! Interstellar Marines is the best game in development ever! It's gonna be fantastic!

Daniel: Care to elaborate? Is it the "everything from above... " that's confusing? We can fix the wording if we know where the confusion starts.

We actually spent a considerable amount of time researching other projects on here for the right wording and clarity, and we thought we "had it", but apparently not for everyone. :)

I think it's a language barrier thing. I'm danish myself, so I 'got' what they meant with how they wrote it, but I can easy see how someone might think it is more limited than it is by reading it as only pointing at the tier right above, which leads to some 'dead ends' rewards wise.

"Everything above" isn't limited to the above reward tier, but points at every tier above (even though a lawyer could propably have a field day with the wording).

    4. Creator Zero Point Software on October 29, 2012

      Dear Maxx,

You got a lot of very valid points there and we're taking notes, I however do not understand what you mean in the first section of your post, about the e.g. $500 tier; because the tier description states:

SIGNED ART BOOK: Everything from above + You receive a ...

Regarding pricing, two things pops out.

Prologue is far from just a tutorial mission! ;) Prologue is designed to deliver tons of replay value and gameplay depth in both SP, MP and COOP as well as a strong context introduction to a remarkable and grand underground military facility (that is destined to be revisited later in the trilogy) and Prologue also tells an extremely relevant story of consequences echoing far into the rest of the storyline for several key characters of the games.

Sure, Prologue may not be able to present as much polish and content as say COD, MOH or other AAA budget FPS's, but it'll kick their ass in sheer evolved gameplay and replay value .. and even then we would NEVER price any one of our games at $60.

The $60 Frontliner tier includes Prologue and First Contact (Full game) as well as Open Door Development access for the entire development of both (is costs money hosting servers etc.)... We feel that $60 is an acceptable price-tag for that .. I'm not trying to convince you here (I respect your opinion completely) it's just how we see it.

We estimate (not set in stone at all) that Prologue will retail for $20 on Steam and First Contact around $40 or less ... but is really way too early to say ... That said no game should ever cost more than $40 (In my book at least) ... everything above is just plain greediness (I guess publisher have too many mouths to feed)!! :)

Thanks for your support, mate, it means the world to us.

For the love of the game,
      Kim

One of the biggest issues I see is rewards. They aren't very good.

Take for example, your 500$ donation rewards, and many other tiers.

Most kickstarters say, "And all previous rewards"

Yours do not. For 500$, you get less than the guy who pledged 90. Something isn't right there. Most of your rewards are digital.

Granted, this is supposed to be fundin for you, so you can't treat it like a straight trade in for money, but beyond the first 2-3 tiers, everything doesn't make sense. 60$ Tier should include all 3 games & prologue. That'd only make sense. 10$ tier, I pledged, but I still feel really iffy about ONLY getting the prologue, which is basically the Tutorial, I am paying for a Tutorial, if I want access to 1/3rd of the actual game, it's another 50$. So I am paying 60$.

I get that...you want this to be AAA Indie. I get that. But regardless, you cannot charge 59.99$ per copy when, or if, this releases. Be realistic.

The most people will pay is 29.99$ per game, not including the Prologue, which I imagine most will pirate due to the stupid idea of paying for a Tutorial.

Your game looks more amazing than many games that retail for 59.99$, easily. It should be worth that price.

But if you want the game to be a success, and sell, you must understand ,despite being AAA Indie, you can't charge AAA prices. People don't know you, they don't know your product, so paying full retail price is not attractive.

Now, Red Orchestra 2, a more well known Indie company, tried charging 39.99$ for it's second Indie game. This proved a mistake as sales did not meet expectations and the majority of keys were bought from Russian websites for half that price. When they actually lowered the price to 19.99$, sales shot up because people were WILLING to take that risk.

29.99$ is my suggested price for each of the installments of your game, while the Prologue, honestly, should be a free "Demo" of sorts, to get people WANTING to purchase your games.

If you go into this thinking you can slap 59.99$ price tags on each game of the series, you're dead in the water already.

      "Never give up! Never surrender!"
From what i have seen you did everything right so far in this kickstarter campaign.
Good presentation movie, concept art, technical demos and well-arranged presentation of rewards.
All that is missing now are public awareness and enough money left in the pockets of potential backers.
The latter is the most tricky part, since there have been many successfull projects lately eating peoples salaries.

    7. Creator Phill on October 27, 2012

Like I said, it looks phenomenal (I'm a massive fan of all 3 games you referred to in the video, especially Raven Shield), and I'm glad you answered the questions rather than evading them as most AAA publishers/developers tend to do. I just hope that previous attempts to get this up and running haven't soured it for too many other people and that it does eventually get released. We definitely need more games like this.

      Thanks again

    8. Creator Zero Point Software on October 27, 2012

Thanks Phill, both for the support and the confrontation with let's call it our harsh authentic reality.

I can completely understand your frustrations!

The fact is that we're creating the game of our dreams here and giving up is just not an option, no matter what people say or think about how long we've been pursuing this ambitious dream ...

Sure if the entire world tomorrow unanimously asked us to stop chasing fairy tales we would properly do so ... That's thankfully not the case, far from it actually; Steam was a way for us to prove to ourselves as well as the world, that Interstellar Marines is indeed wanted (Our admin module ranked us as #2 most popular of all submitted games on Greenlight) ...

I know that some people think we should just throw down and go home, maybe because it's the easy choice .. Sure it's hard work fighting the fight, holding on to the thought of one day be able to say we did it and that's what we've chosen to do (Not implying that that is what you're hinting, not at all!).

I sincerely hope this message finds you well, Phill and thanks again for your hopefully continues support! :)

For the love of the game,
      /Kim

    9. Creator Phill on October 27, 2012

I backed this on the first day, this was the first I'd ever heard about this game and it looks phenomenal. It wasn't until after I had told some other people about it that I was told in return this has been going on for a while. For example, one person already donated $40 in 2009 (as did a whole heap of other people) and it was basically just showcasing the same stuff back then.

I then saw it was already Greenlit on Steam. Erm... if you still need money to make it, why bother getting it Greenlit? So basically people voted up a project that wasn't anywhere near complete?

It's because of things like these that I'm considering removing my pledge. On the face of it, it seems like an incredible idea, but when you look at the history of the project, it looks like a series of money grabs.

If you could maybe clarify these things along with the history of people backing this game, it might give people like myself more faith in what you guys are doing. Backers haven't exactly been pledging in droves, maybe that's why. Just an idea. Thanks
