I make music. It's a bit more than a hobby, but it's not my profession. It's something I do whether or not anyone pays me to do it. I have two albums out already, both available on my bandcamp site. I'm starting to put together a third album, but that's not what this fund drive is about. At least, not directly.
You see, as much as I love bandcamp, I'd like to have my stuff available on more far-reaching and more accessible places like iTunes and Amazon's MP3 store. The folks over at CD Baby have a distribution deal set up that if I sign up with them they can get my stuff distributed through these and other folks. CD Baby will also stock physical copies of all my CDs, too. Really great for indie folks like myself.
Problem is that there's an up-front cost to this. Now once that cost is covered, the CD Baby model doesn't incur any continuing fees, which is definitely nice. But there's still that initial hurdle, which is where this little fundraiser comes in.
The funds raised here will go directly toward the startup costs to get halt, The Mathemagician's Riddle, and the third yet-unreleased project up onto CDBaby. It will also encourage me to take less than two years to finish an album, since I'd have people waiting for it.
All backers of this will get periodic recording updates, sneak peeks of new music, pre-press album art, access to outtakes and bits from my sonic sketchpad, and all kinds of things like that. Plus I'm open to suggestions. Video tour of the studio? Sure. Enumeration of instrumentation? Why not. Plus I'll do Q&A.
The biggest way you can help out is to spread the word.
