We are making two models of pants—one for women, one for men—that travel well, are incredibly comfortable, and look great no matter where you go.
Our pants are ethically made and made to last.
UPDATE: WE INTRODUCED STRETCH GOALS. SCROLL DOWN FOR DETAILS!
We use sustainability-certified performance fabric that is water and dirt repellent, wrinkle-free and breathable. The pants are tailored in a classic European tradition and flatter many body types. They will be produced for fair wages in Berlin.
But they really, really shine when you travel: They're practically wrinkle-free, don't stain easily, and are super flexible. With two pairs you're set for a trip of any length.
We’ve been obsessed with having pants like this. That’s why we went ahead and made some!
Based on how this Kickstarter goes, we hope to make more pants like these in the future; but we cannot promise anything just yet.
Performance fabric for every day
What's the fabric? We searched far and wide to find the perfect fabric for ultimate everyday trousers. When we found Schoeller® Soft Shell Dryskin, we knew it was perfect.
It's an amazing performance fabric. The double fabric construction developed originally for active sports consist of hard wearing polyamide on the outside and function fibres on the inside for rapid moisture transport and comfort. This supports physical performance capacity during sporting activities; more importantly it is super comfortable, lightweight, wrinkle free. Their four-way stretch allows for an incredible freedom of movement.
These pants are made from pleasantly soft and comfortable stretch woven fabrics. They are highly elastic, extremely hard wearing, and extremely easy to care for. Nanosphere® treatment makes them dirt repelling.
What do they feel like? They feel amazing! Longer answer: The pants are amazingly lightweight. We measured a pair of regular men's jeans, a pair of cotton/twill slacks, and a pair of Zephyr Berlin. Here's how they compare: Jeans: 600g, cotton/twill: 460g, Zephyr Berlin: only 380g.
How warm are they? In terms of temperature they wear like a regular pair of jeans. Only difference: if it's really windy, they'll keep you warmer as they resist wind better than denim. They are treated with Nanosphere® to be highly water repellent. Water literally just jumps off.
In short, they're incredibly comfortable and perform great. Every day, everywhere.
Made for fair wages
In the textiles industry, it's not rare that garment workers earn as little as 1-3% of the retail price. We don't think that's ok - so at Zephyr Berlin, our seamstresses (or seamsters) make 20-25% of the retail price.
What we’re making
The money raised from this campaign will fund the first small batch of pants, handmade for fair wages here in Berlin. Your support will secure you a pair for yourself or a loved one. Get two for the ultimate travel set.
Our pants have classic European tailoring and look great no matter where you go. Combine with dress shoes to feel stylish and confident. Throw on hiking boots and hit the trail. Pull them out of your suitcase, ready to wear.
Our high-quality fabric is bluesign certified, acknowledging its environmental safety and sustainability in textile production. They are dirt-repellant and require less washing, so you’ll save water. Robust seams and stitching help the garment stay intact longer.
The fabric stretches four ways, making it very flexible while still retaining its form. It’s breathable and wicks away moisture. And when it rains, you’ll love how water just jumps off the fabric, keeping you dry.
The pants are low maintenance, too. Just throw them in the washing machine, or in the sink if you’re on the road. They will be clean and wrinkle-free without hassle.

We consider these stretch goals a great opportunity to push our philosophy of sustainability and openness even further. Here's what we'll do if we hit our next stretch goals:
15K Alteration ready
Our bodies change over time. That shouldn't mean throwing out our favorite clothes. Most ready-to-wear manufacturers cut costs by leaving as little excess fabric in the garment as possible, but we believe it's important to allow our clothes to live as long as possible. So we leave extra additional fabric under the back seam so the pants can be let out easily.
20K Open Source patterns
Outside making travel trousers, we have a background in the free culture and open source world. Cecilia founded Pamoyo, an open fashion label. Michelle started out working for Creative Commons and now works in open IoT for the Mozilla Foundation. For us, openness should be baked in. If we reach this stretch goal, we'll digitize and open source our design patterns so you can make your own performance wear pants.
30K New colors
So far, Zephyr Berlin pants are available in a beautiful midnight black. If we reach this stretch goal we'll work with our fabric manufacturer into what other colors we might be able to provide. We're thinking navy blue to begin with because navy blue is a great team player for mixing and matching.
40K New sizes
We produce our pants in two models (men's and women's), with three sizes each (S, M, L). Due to the small size of our first production batch, that was the maximum we were able to make. If we reach this stretch goal, we'll expand the range of available sizes to fit smaller and larger sizes.
50K New products
We started Zephyr Berlin with the mission to create the perfect wardrobe for life on the road and at home. We believe our trousers are a great first step on that journey. If we hit this stretch goal, we'll look into creating more products that fit our mission. Think shirts, blouses, t-shirts - everything's possible. We can't wait to find the perfect fabrics for each of these uses.
A note on sizes!
With their four-way stretch, Zephyr Berlin pants fit a wide range of body types.
We'll provide a sizing chart and ask for your size selection as well as shipping address once the campaign ends. For now, just pick the number of pants you would like.
Also, we know many of you are taller than average. So we're offering two lengths: regular and long.
Here's our current sizing chart (draft status; might still change, we'll confirm with you when we ask for your details):
Open Studio in Berlin

Where the project came from
We travel a lot. From hiking in the freezing rain, to hanging out in sun-soaked streets, from business meetings to tramping through the snow with our families, we'd learned a lot about what we treasure—what we choose to use and wear everyday. We want to wear things that are adaptable, built to last, and look good no matter where you go.
We searched for clothing like this, but we didn’t find quite what we were looking for.
So, we set out to make the clothes we wanted. We teamed up, researched the best fabric for the job, designed and tested the prototypes, and created our first two pairs of pants: one for women and one for men.
What’s our plan and schedule
Our Kickstarter campaign begins this September. We’ll host a kickoff party in Berlin, where you can try on the pants yourself and see how they’re made.
When the campaign ends in October, we’ll work with a local seamstress to produce the pants. If you select the early bird reward, they’ll be on your doorstep by December, in time for Christmas.
What’s our budget
Sustainability-certified fabric costs more than typical throwaway fabric that's used by fast fashion. And often, clothing is made at the expense of the garment workers.
That's why we wanted to offer these pants at a fair price under fair conditions.
The cost of each pair goes to fair wages for the seamstress and sourcing our high-quality Swiss performance fabric.
The money raised from the early supporter discounted Kickstarter pre-sales will fund the production of 100 pairs of pants. By pre-ordering, you are giving us invaluable support to continue pushing forward on this project.
Support us today for a unique pair of Zephyr Berlin pants that look great, travel lightly and are built to last.
Who we are
Cecilia is a fashion designer who’s worked in sustainable fashion for the past 10 years. She loves to think about how to create clothing that is functional while letting you play with your style.
Michelle is an internet activist who wants to own less by having just a few beautiful things that are adaptable and built to last.
Peter is a digital strategist who travels a lot for work and wants clothes he can rely on.
Together, we are making a pair of pants you won't want to miss.
Risks and challenges
We've been testing our prototypes for the last months, and we believe they are robust and well designed. Nevertheless, as we scale up production, there will certainly be things we learn or run into along the way.
The greatest risks will be in ensuring a good production flow so that we can make the pants on schedule. With local experienced seamstresses in our studio, as well as a world-renown textile provider, we're confident in our preparations, yet we will be ready to mitigate delays as best as possible.
To that end, we have put in a reservation for the textiles, so they arrive on time. We've booked the seamstresses, and we've prepared the assembly materials in advance.
We're also committed to communicating the status of the project, so supporters know where we're at and can share their feedback as we go.
