Years later Ethan is convinced by his bright-eyed fourteen year old younger brother, Corey, to drive him and his three friends, Stephen, Zack, and Ben to the hospital upon hearing the legend of Asylum 33D, a place now so haunted that even the police don't visit it anymore. The rules are simple. They each have a flashlight with an hour's worth of battery life and after exploring the asylum for the next hour, they are to return and head back home. Ethan however separates from the group upon discovering streaks of blood on the floor and follows them into a stairway. Suddenly, a terrifying shriek begins moving towards him from out the darkness...
Ethan suddenly awakens on the lowest floor of the asylum, lost and alone. He wanders the halls with the battery of his flashlight slowly running down, only to find Stephen with a swollen left eye, balled up and crying on the floor. Something has dragged his brother and his friends into the depths of Asylum 33D. Now Ethan must climb his way back up to the top floor before his batteries die, seeking the others as he finds them in the labyrinth that is this place, and dodging the insane and violent ghosts that still haunt Asylum 33D.
Hi, I'm Zen. Thanks for checking out our "Asylum 33D" Kickstarter! This Kickstarter is to raise funds to publish my "Asylum 33D" horror novel, though the novel is just a small part of a larger project we will be launching, including an art book, graphic novel, visual novel, and videogame.

Our $3,000 funding goal will cover a limited copy print run of the novel, an ISBN, and all Kickstarter / Amazon payment fees. We will use http://www.lulu.com/ to print the books (if you know of a better option please get in touch). Due to the fact that there are multiple editions of the book (ghost images, brochures, etc.), we won't be receiving a break for printing in bulk. Sites that I intend to forward a copy of the book to for review and exposure include Ain't It Cool News, Bloody-Disgusting, and Geekscape, among a few others.
The $10,000 stretch goal will allow the project to hire Goldberg, AI to begin testing unique looks for the characters and the asylum. These art pieces would be provided to backers on a DAILY basis and, upon completion, sorted into an "Asylum 33D Art Book". This art book would be sold digitally.
The $30,000 graphic novel will see us continue to hire Goldberg, Ai to finalize all character, ghosts, and architecture. Coloring will take require particular attention. I'm hoping to hire a colorist to take care of this. Once completed the graphic novel will also be sold digitally.
The $75,000 stretch goal will let us hire a programmer, composer, and multiple voice actors to help bring the "Asylum 33D" visual novel to life. Funding will cover costs associated with obtaining a license to publish on the Wii U, Playstation 4, and Vita platforms, along with a Unity Pro license. We believe this will be particularly successful on the Wii U / PS4 (Using Vita's Play) due to people playing the novel late at night in bed and freaking under their sheets. We'd release at a $0.99 price point to expose the Asylum 33D brand to as many people as possible.
The final $375,000 stretch goal will see a minimum of 20% of our funding taken by the game engine we'll be using. Along with the percentage that Kickstarter / Amazon takes, a significant part of our funding will be spent here. We'll also need to pay for licenses for all the software that 3D artists use to develop their models. A single 3DS Max license from Autodesk costs $3,675 for example. However, the bulk of preproduction will be done. All character and ghost concepts will be finalized, and there will be a ton of voice acting already done that we would use towards the game.
We would also hire Robert Borashan (http://robertborashan.com/3d) to begin modeling characters and ghosts in 3D and further expand the team with character artist, two prop modelers, another programmer, an animator, and a level designer. All sales from the game will go towards a long and lengthy vacation.

Asylum 33D is a labor of love for me. Completing it however requires your help. The fact is that as an independent writer, it's tremendously difficult to write, pay the bills, keep the fridge stocked, and still have enough money left over to finance something like this. Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge to Asylum 33D will be the creation of scenarios and challenges that engross you, the dear reader. I've double-checked the costs of producing all softcover, hardcover, and audiovisual rewards, and as long as we reach the goals indicated above, all your Asylum 33D rewards WILL reach you. I am very responsible in making sure you are happy in working with me and backing Asylum 33D, as I understand that living this dream would not be possible without YOU.
The work process will be defined is as such: Each stretch goal will begin after the goal previous to it has been completed. The novel will lead to a screenplay adaptation. The screenplay adaptation will serve as the narrative backbone for the graphic and visual novels. The art book will serve as the visual backbone for the graphic and visual novels.
By working on each goal at a time, we'll be able to direct our energies completely rather than be spread thin.
