About this project
"Sometimes a concept comes along for a comic book that is so original you have to just stop and take notice" Remy Carreiro - Forevergeek.com
"Luanga has written a truly original comic with Paper Rock Scissors n’ Stuff Wars" Almost Normal Comics
Everyone on Earth knows the game – Paper beats Rock, Rock beats Scissors and Scissors beats Paper. This fun, yet simple hand game has been used for generations to solve simple disputes like who has to clean the kitchen after that epic house party.
Now imagine Rock, Paper and Scissors as living anthropomorphic creatures. Imagine them as individuals with their own kingdoms, beliefs, armies, societies and biases.
Imagine Scissors as a fascist regime hungry for power and domination. Imagine Paper as an isolationist society far too naive about their world. Imagine Rock as an impartial power fully aware of the other kingdoms, but disinterested in getting involved.
Finally, imagine this world with new elements outside of the original game. They now play pivotal roles in this new game of war. Plastics that can change their shape. Water and Sand kingdoms caught in their own stalemate war. All powerful 'godly' Anvils who hold the secret to the planet’s origin. Imagine all this madness combined into a comic book adventure!
This is the world of Paper Rock Scissors N' Stuff Wars, a graphic novel to be produced by Zelpha Comics. On a distant planet, the hand game is now a planetary war for survival and dominance!
Paper Rock Scissors N’ Stuff Wars will be a five chapter black and white artwork graphic novel encompassing 100 pages. The story begins with the Scissors Empire’s discovery of Paper Flatopia and the ensuing carnage of their invasion over the placid Papers. From there, readers discover the planet’s other kingdoms and their growing knowledge of each other.
Just like in our world, there is trust and distrust, co-operation and outright hatred. Corruption and the military industrial complex go face-to-face against harsh decisions required to achieve planetary peace. And as kingdoms fight and scheme, there are greater forces waiting and watching for the right time to act.
The artwork is cartoony and fun, while the narrative is a mashed combination of serious, silly and poignant. Each chapter will be drawn by a different artist who will bring his/her unique flare to the project.
A FREE digital copy of the limited print Comic Con Edition (made for Toronto's Fan Expo, London, Ontario's Comic Con and Hamilton's Comic Con) is available for download on Amazon.com between September 22nd to the 26th. This edition showcases chapter 1 out of the 5 chapter graphic novel story.
THE CAMPAIGN OBJECTIVE:
The story and artwork for the comic is already in the production stages and the entire comic will be completed by early spring 2017. While the money has already been saved up to pay the artists and complete the book, printing and promotional costs is another matter. The $1,250 is the minimum needed to produce the first run of the graphic novel. Any amount raised above this amount will be used for additional print runs, hardcover editions and international promotional campaigns.
ABOUT THE PUBLISHER:
Zelpha Comics was incorporated in June, 2016 by author, You Tube cardboard craft designer and lifelong comic book fanboy Luanga Nuwame. The company is named after Luanga’s maternal grandmother Zelpha Watson. She has always supported and encouraged her grandson since childhood and when it was time to name the company, Luanga knew he had to honor his grandma for her positive influence on his ambitions. Although Luanga is a big time superhero fan, he wanted to create unique comic book concepts that are outside the superhero genre and will appeal to numerous age groups. Beyond bringing Rock-Paper-Scissors to life in a world war, Zelpha Comics already produces another separate comic book series geared to young girls entitled The Adventures of Little Petalianne.
"I think the standout moment for me was the 'Paper covers Rock' bit. Mostly because, with the title and characters, I "knew" it had to come and when it did, it was awesome. Also the bit with little Pebblela on the beach. Overall, I liked it. I'm curious about the Anvils and interested to see where this goes next." Ellen Fleischer - Indyfest Magazine
The goal is in sight, but we can go even further together. If we hit $1,500, we'll send everyone who pledged $15 or more, as a reward, the following perk at no additional shipping charge...

Risks and challenges
A special edition variant of Paper Rock Scissors N' Stuff Wars was printed for Toronto (Ontario's) Fan Expo, London (Ontario's) Comic Con and Hamilton (Ontario's) Comic Con. The 500 copies produced act as the first appearance of the characters and reflect chapter one of the graphic novel.
This one-shot was made to not only generate some sales and awareness, but it was also a way to find out which printers can produce the quality of product desired for the eventual graphic novel at a good price per unit. Zelpha Comics has been fortunate to find two printers – one in Canada and one in the U.S. – capable of making the graphic novel at a great price and quality.
Zelpha Comics has also been fortunate to find great potential artists ready to tackle the project. But like any graphic novel, it is imperative artists stay committed to the project from page 1 to 100.
The challenge for Zelpha Comics, after raising the funds needed to complete the comic, is in selling and marketing the finished book. Any additional funds will be put towards an adequate promotional campaign to help make the graphic novel a success.
As for perk fulfillment, the items offered can be produced as promised once the goal is reached. Have no fear – you will receive what is promised!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
