About this project
Current Stretch goal:
I forgot to update the expected delivery date. The actual expected delivery of the product is December. The printing process alone can take up to 3 months so the current date on most rewards of August 2013 is incorrect. I'm really sorry if this messes up anyone's pledge. If I can get the rewards out to people before December you bet your butt I will.
My name is Mike Henry and I'm an artist living in San Francisco, CA. I've spent most of my career as a concept artist and co-founded a concept art company in 2010 called Big Menace Industries. For the last year and a half I have been working as the Art Director for Booyah, a mobile video game company.
I have also independently released two art books called FaceBomb! The Art of Mike Henry & FaceBomb! 2, but this time I'm reaching out to the citizens of Kickstarter to see if we can do this together.

PINK HAIR GIRLS is a long-in-the-making art book that focuses on a very specific theme: Pink hair. A couple years ago I painted a piece called "hangover" as a way to get over some pretty bad artist's block. A friend of mine really liked it and commissioned me to create another one for his place. A few pieces later I realized I had the start of a series that was a lot of fun to explore. I decided that instead of releasing another "compilation art book" I would center my next book around this theme.
Like most artists, I love art books. I have a large collection of them and, even in the age of digital media, there's nothing cooler to me than a physical book. Plus, with a physical book you can do more creative things regarding packaging. I hope to do some cool things like that as stretch goals.
Why not? But, seriously it just seemed like fun. After releasing my last two books that consisted mostly of previously released art collected into a volume, I wanted to make something that was comprised of unreleased art. I also envied artists that had focused art books that explored a theme. I don't often stick with one subject matter for so long, and I thought since I had come so far with this theme, this could be my chance to create a focused book like those I have admired.
PINK HAIR GIRLS will be a full-color, 100 page, hardcover Art Book that measures 6 1/4" x 11". It will feature over 40 ladies with pink hair, over 20 pages of behind-the-scenes tutorials, Tattoo spotlights, and a roughs index that showcases the rough sketches for every girl in the book.
While this is my primary objective, I am also excited about all the other rewards and would love to be funded to a level at which I could provide stretch goal rewards as well.
So that's the spiel. I've been teasing this book for quite some time and am very happy with what it has become. I can't wait to put this in people's hands so they can see what I've been keeping secret for the last couple of years. I hope that this project interests you and that you choose to become a backer. I'm working hard to make this book special and will do everything I can to make your experience awesome. Please share this Kickstarter with the world and let's see what we can do together!
While the future remains unwritten, I have plenty of ideas that center around bolstering the main goal: the book. Things like a slipcase, additional content, etc are all on the table. I've tried to pack as much value into this as possible and through stretch goals I hope to do even more.
LET THE STRETCH GOALS BEGIN!
Risks and challenges
The main risk right now is wrapping up the book. It is currently 80% complete with the remaining work consisting of process pages, layout, and a handful of incomplete pieces. I intend to have this all finished by the end of the funding period.
Secondly, since producing something like this requires me to rely on others for printing, shipping, etc, there can always be delays that are out of my hands. In order to minimize this, my book printing vendor is the same printer I used on my previous books and they are very reliable. Other rewards are coming from vendors I have either worked with before or come highly recommended. I've tried to mitigate risk here as much as possible by working with trusted vendors.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
