STRETCH GOALS UPDATE!
We've hit our minimum goal, and we've got two stretch goals that will add gifts to each and every shipped book reward if we reach them!
$6000 goal — We'll include a Comics are for Everyone sticker (vinyl, 9"x3") in every shipment!
$7000 goal — We'll include one of our convention-favorite Comics are for Everyone tote bags (featuring art from Legend of Bold Riley cover artist Tery Blas!) in every shipment!
Northwest Press has been publishing quality LGBT comics, collections, and graphic novels for five years now, and we're closing out 2015 with the latest installments of two of our series, Dash and A Waste of Time.
Dash tells the story of Dashell Malone, a disgraced former cop turned private eye in 1940s Los Angeles. As an out gay man in a time when it was all but unheard of to be so, Dash juggles a bad-boy boyfriend, a femme fatale client, and a seeming supernatural threat in the adventure, "The Case of the Mysterious Zita Makara", the first story arc of the series.
A Waste of Time comes from the mind of Rick Worley, and follows the adventures of frustrated cartoonist Rick the Rabbit and his friends Rickets the damaged robot, Prester the fundamentalist closeted teddy bear, Truckstop the power-bottom fox, and more. With a blend of cuddly sweetness, sex and drug humor, and explorations of the soul of an artist, A Waste of Time is a truly unique comic series. The first story arc, "Monday" is, among other things, a demented love letter to Calvin and Hobbes creator Bill Watterson.
We need you!
Creating these books has been a labor of love, and we're thrilled to be part of such a vibrant comics community, but It's not always easy. Printing costs, web hosting, convention fees, shipping, and other costs rack up pretty quickly when you're an indie book publisher, and a lot of traditional distribution methods are closed off to us.
So we're turning to you, gentle readers, to basically reserve your copies of these two new books in advance—at a savings!—and help us set the stage for great things in 2016, like the Hard to Swallow collection from Dave Davenport and Justin Hall, the final issues of the current story arc of The Legend of Bold Riley from Leia Weathington, and of course the collected first story arc of Dash.
If we can cover the printing and shipping cost for these two releases up front, we'll be able to move forward with our 2016 release schedule full steam ahead.
Showing our appreciation!
We've got a lot of great rewards to show our backers how much we appreciate them. First and foremost, we've got the two new comics in question, in both print and digital formats.
Then, we've got full sets of the current Dash and A Waste of Time series, so you can catch up and enjoy each story from the beginning if you're a new reader.
We've got a "Complete Waste of Time" reward, which includes the first trade paperback of Rick the Rabbit's adventures; a "Comics are for Everyone" t-shirt; and a comedy pack which includes our two latest humor releases: Capitol Hillbillies Volume One and The Completely Unfabulous Social Life of Ethan Green.
We've got an original art reward; you can get an original sketch from A Waste of Time creator Rick Worley. These are limited, so stake your claim early! (The majority of the proceeds of these go directly to the artist!)
Last but not least, we've got a perennial NWP Kickstarter favorite, the "NWP Mega Pack", which includes a print copy every stil-in-print book we've ever released. Over two dozen graphic novels, collections, comics, and a prose short story collection for good measure. (A retail value of over $450!)
We are delighted to be creating this work and telling stories that might otherwise go untold. Thank you for your support and for proving that comics are for everyone!
Risks and challenges
With five years experience producing top-notch work, and hundreds and hundreds of satisfied Kickstarter backers from previous projects, we don't anticipate any major obstacles. The artwork for these issues is done, and it's beautiful, and we only need to cover printing cost to bring them into the world. If there are any unforeseen challenges, we will let you know what's up and how they will, if at all, affect the timeline for the projects.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
