Who are you and what's going on here?
Hi, my name is Zahra Noorbakhsh, I’m the writer and performer of the hit show “All Atheists Are Muslim” making its Hollywood Fringe Theater/LA debut! I’ve performed to sold-out crowds from San Francisco to New York City, where the New Yorker Magazine chose my show as a highlight of the NYC Fringe Theater Festival!
"All Atheists Are Muslim" is my comedic, autobiographical one-woman show set in the two-week period in my life during which my whitey-white, atheist, infidel, non-believer boyfriend Duncan and I tell my Iranian, Muslim parents that we’ve decided to move in together. Out of that VERY suprising conversation comes the hilarious comedy and everyday tale of boy meets girl - meets thousands of years of cultural tradition and religious doctrine.
OK, I like you, but why should I care about you?
I was accepted into the Hollywood Fringe Festival for the Los Angeles premiere of my show. We hear a lot about Muslim women, but don't get to see them, especially not in the way of COMEDIC one-woman shows. This is my chance as an Iranian American woman and Muslim to cross cultures and generations with a story of family and love.
Where is the money going?
Independent theater productions are awesome because I get the freedom to say what I want to say and where I want to say it. But, that also means that I fund everything: from travel costs, renting theater and rehearsal space, paying the director, lighting designer, sound designer, the tech guy, house manager, box office manager, the graphic designer—who created the awesome poster of me flying on a magic carpet (though my parents bought the carpet) -, the photographer, videographer, printing the postcards and flyers, ads, programs, signs, ushers, concessions, and even the little napkins that go with your concessions. Like I said - EVERYTHING.
Your support will get me to the Hollywood Fringe, enable me to promote the show in Los Angeles, and make it a phenomenal performance!
I'm invested! When are we doing this?
Now! Your support will enable me to put the show up at the Complex Theater in Santa Monica for the Hollywood Fringe Theater Festival THIS JUNE. I have until my birthday, June 11th, to raise $4,000 and, as a sign of my eternal gratitude, I’m offering some really fun gifts, so check them out!
