Lizard People: Lords of the Media (Canceled)
3-7 players control the media, write headlines, and collect people parts so they may don their human skin and ascend to the surface.
THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN CANCELED, BUT NOT ALL IS LOST! :D
It's being relaunched at the end of April with a new theme and some design tweaks under the name of FAKE NEWS! Check out our website at zagzagzag.com for updates about the new release! I want to thank everyone who backed and was involved! See you on the other side! :)
For more info about Fake News, you can also check out this Kickstarter update.
Lizard People: Lords of the Media is a headline building party game. Each round you'll build a headline using cards from your hand and a couple cards provided by the editor. If you construct the best headline and win the favor of the editor, you'll be rewarded with an arm, leg, head, or torso! If you can build a whole human body, you win!
If you're in the press and want to write about Lizard People, check out this press kit and feel free to hit me up! Anything and everything is greatly appreciated! :)
The box includes a manual, and 275 cards - 243 are headline cards, 30 are people part cards, and there's 1 editor card and 1 intern card. When we hit our stretch goals, the card count will be boosted to 350! Scroll down to learn more about that! :P
Gameplay is simple - think word poker! Each round, one player is the editor, and the rest are writers. The editor plays 3 cards from their hand - this is called the topic. Writers must then play cards from their hand, using at least 2 of the topic cards, to create a headline. When you've got a headline you like, you may pitch it, then read it out.
- The Pitch: Before reading your headline, you may catch everyone up to speed on current events or the context of your headline. This may be how you sway the editor so think about your pitch!
- The Headline: Then, you play the cards from your hand that you're using, and read the headline - you're allowed to add punctuation to your headline that doesn't appear on the cards.
Once every writer has read their headline, the editor chooses which to publish, and awards that player with a people part.
At the end of the round, players draw cards until they have 5, and the role of the editor rotates clockwise to the next player.
Besides the role of the editor, there is also the lowly intern. If a player has the intern, they have the ability to discard as many cards as they want, and redraw to their hand size once per round. If another player wants the intern, they can bid cards from their hand take it. If you have possession of the intern when you become editor, the intern moves counterclockwise to the next player. The intern can also be bought and moved from player to player more than once per round.
- Quick to Learn - Lizard People in it's most basic form is word poker. Teaching people how to make and judge sentences with the cards available takes seconds - so whether you're at board game night or a bar, getting new players into the game is a breeze.
- Playing Together - Many sentence building games feel like you're playing alongside other players but not really with them. Lizard People's topic cards as well as its intern mechanic facilitate conversation and competition.
- Balance - The rules are designed to make sure you can make a fun headline every round. I believe I've nailed the noun/verb/adjective/adverb ratio. Between your hand and the intern, you have access to a ton of words each round, making headline construction a breeze.
Besides the basic tiers, there are two tiers that give you special rewards, the Lizard Club Member, and Lizard Club Lifetime Member tiers! What do they give you? 2 copies of the game, as well as a ring!
The Lizard Club Member Ring is a green 3D printed plastic ring and the Lizard Club Lifetime Member Ring is an 18k gold plated 3D printed metal ring!
If you buy at either of these tiers, you'll be able to order more rings (of either variety) from me personally after the Kickstarter!
If you want to help unlock stretch goals, make sure to share the Lizard People Kickstarter! At 950 backers, Lizard People: Lords of the Media will come with 350 cards! That's more than a 25% increase! :D
Hey everylizard! My name is Sam Strick, and I made Lizard People: Lords of the Media. Over the past few years I've kickstarted and published a few games including Province, 100 Swords, and Shift (you can check out my BoardGameGeek designer page here).
I believe Lizard People: Lords of the Media is a fantastic party game and I'm excited to get it out there! It's super quick to learn, and really entertaining - I've been playing it for months and I'm constantly surprised by the headlines people are writing. Folks seem to enjoy it, and I think you will too - so from me to you, thanks for backing!
Also, if you're over 21 and enjoy the occasional alcoholic beverage, I recommend this one extra rule: After the editor has awarded a people part to the best headline, they then pick the most meh headline and its writer has to take a drink. Always drink responsibly! :)
Risks and challenges
I've Kickstarted and published many games over the past 5 years, but this is my first time doing it on my own. With that said, the printer and distributor are ready to go. I do have stretch goals in mind, and all of them take into account weights and shipping so there shouldn't be a hiccup there. There is always the risk that production is slowed by unforeseen forces (like the manufacturer or distribution's schedule), but I've already padded the expected delivery date - it is my goal to get this game to you before the holidays and I am giving myself a decent amount of wiggle room to hit that timeframe.
With that said, if you have any questions about potential risks, message me here!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
