A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
In A Nutshell
Imagine if you took a good and reliable engine like a Honda, and placed it inside of a car that looked and felt like a Ferrari or Porsche... would you be ok driving that car for a fraction of their costs? As long as you're ok not driving a car 200+ mph, but still want to enjoy the look and feel of a luxury vehicle, then our product is perfect for you. Our luxury headphones are capable of working with most all earbuds to maximize their potential, while giving you the fashion and feel of the expensive headphones.
NECESSITY is the Mother of all Inventions.
It all started one day at an airport far, far away when one of our co-founders discovered that the speakers on his high cost headphones stopped working. The only option remaining was to use his Apple earbuds, but not a good one since the earbuds never stayed in his oddly shaped ears. Needing some kind of entertainment during the five hour layover, he reluctantly put his earbuds in and tried not to move his head as he explored the airport. Fail. Out of frustration, he took the broken headphones and placed them over his ears to keep the earbuds in place. That’s when the EUREKA! moment happened. Nearly all airport noises disappeared, while the quality of the earbuds seemingly enhanced. From there, he created a team who shared in his excitement and we began the prototyping stages to improve the overall audio quality.
SAME SAME, BUT DIFFERENT.
This meant, first capturing the bass from the Apple and Samsung earbuds, then naturally amplifying it back to the ears, then placing the earbuds’ mid-range speakers (the part that goes inside your ears) precisely away from your ears so that your ears can pick up all the nuances of the music to create a surround sound effect. Then we built an overall comfortable and quality headphone so people could enjoy a fashionable and stylish headphone to rival the looks and comfort of luxury headphones that normally cost hundreds of dollars.
The BEST Part is You
But we weren’t done. The best part was yet to come. We spent even more time designing and working on the most important aspect that would make our headphones about YOU, the interchangeable disks. We tried different materials and weights, but we ultimately settled on stainless steel disks that were just light enough to not overbear our headphones, but heavy enough to give it a strong feel that could become a collectible item.
Luxury, but Hold the Price
After it was all said and done, we made sure to keep the cost low so that everyone could afford it, especially those who lack the income, or find it crazy, to buy the overpriced headphones. Luxury, fashion, and style doesn’t have to mean it has to cost a lot. Other industries have proved this. Look at Dollar Shave Club and Harry’s Blades, and what they have done to the big brand names. That’s what you call disruption! That’s what we are about to do, so please join us and become a disruptor!
Oh and what's with our name? ZaanU sounds like "is on you." So...
"How you look is on you, How you listen is ZaanU." Get it :)
Risks and challenges
Thank you so much for your interest in our pursuit to provide affordable luxury headphones for everyone, especially for those who can't afford over priced products. We really appreciate you taking the time to view our entire project. We know that there are several different platforms to crowd-fund, but we knew that the Kickstarter community is the best in supporting projects.
We have been working with a highly reputable factory and they created the final samples shown in the pictures and videos. Because we have spent the last couple months working through issues and finalizing even the smallest of details, we expect everything to run extremely smooth.
We do not see any risks with this reward, perhaps a minor adjustment on the delivery date. Our factory has given us a timeline of 60 days for tooling and a month for production and delivery, based on inventory. This is why we set July as a delivery date. As soon as we hit our goal of $10,000, we will initiate the factory to begin the tooling process.
Our only concern is that you, our backers, enjoy our product and find it worthy. Because we wanted to make absolute sure that our headphones truly maximized the earbuds' audio and sounded amazing, we spent additional months putting it through multiple tests and changes. Based off the nearly 100 blind testers, we are confident you will love it!
