Check out a demonstration of Ye Olde Tutor with a narrative explaining how it supports students!

Think about days olde, where a few lucky kids had the opportunity, nay, the fortune of having a private tutor sit with them day in and day out to provide learning that was centered around the learners needs. These tutors sought to prepare students for whatever they may encounter in the future and work at their individualized pace. This seems like a dream for many parents to offer as support for their kids. As much as schools try, it isn't possible to stop the entire class for an extended period of time when a student or two is struggling. There simply won't be a way to cover all of the required material. There is also the student to consider. They often don't say when they are struggling and continue to fall behind. Ye Olde Tutor is meant to support those students.

It was on this idea that Ye Olde Tutor was formed

Ye Olde Tutor is:

  • A combination of the traditional tutoring that isolates student needs
  • Allows ample opportunity to practice
  • Review at their own pace.
  • Industry learning software
  • The latest brain research
  • Curriculum developed with learners in mind

The world of education is changing, and the awesome part is, you can be a part of that change. Learn more about our program at YeOldeTutor.com

Ye Olde Tutor is a Visual Experience.

Lessons revolve around characters, pictures, and images. Students can relate to visuals or can learn about different topics and current events through these images. The learning process occurs when images are situated in the context of the lesson. Images are relatable for students and of a wide variety, as well as animated, to foster student engagement.

Ye Olde Tutor is Auditory Learning with a Twist.

Auditory learning is an educational standard and Ye Olde Tutor does not fail to address auditory learners. The curriculum blends videos, music, and narration throughout the learning modules. The material is broken down into chunks so there is not an overwhelming amount of information, unlike in lectures. This is specifically to address student attention span and create a more effective learning environment.

Students can replay videos and narration as many times as they need. There will also be a transcript of all narration for students to follow.

Kinesthetic Learning

Students who learn by touch and movement are kinesthetic learners .Ye Olde Tutor allows for students to experience different environments through simulations, video, shortened modules, and, best of all, is interactive. This makes a student a part of the learning process rather than just a participant.

About Me.

Hi. My name is Yvonne and I have been in the world of education for almost 6 years now. Most of my time was spent as an AP Language Arts and Reading teacher at a high school, but I also worked in a middle school, and now work for a major tech company in Silicon Valley in California. I love Language Arts and I love teaching, which is why I took a corporate job for a bit so I could learn about different practices to best reach students and learners of all kinds. Oh, and I also have my masters degree in Curriculum and Instructional Design.

Why Ye Olde Tutor.

Short and sweet- The idea of Ye Olde Tutor came up when I was teaching. I wanted to find a really quality resource to recommend to my students. I could search high and low and find great resources, but students don’t know where to look for help. Even then, the resources don’t always break things down in ways that they understand, and even less likely that they will be interested in them. Then the worst thing can happen. Students can become disheartened and no longer want to learn. They think that Language Arts is terrible. And that, well, that makes me sad.

So in my research, I found different authoring tools that would make great tutorials, but they were really expensive, I needed a lot of training on how to use them and then I found a whole slew of things I didn’t know. So I left the classroom and dedicated myself to a job that would let me explore all of these tools and learn about many more in the process- a corporate job. Now that I have completed my masters and I have learned a ton, I am ready to return to my greatest passions in life. 1. My love of language arts. 2. My love for sharing language arts with young people. Ye Olde Tutor is meant to be a resource for students to access in their own time, and also for teachers to bring into the classroom to supplement their lessons. If people wonder why Ye Olde Tutor? All I can say is that there was a need and I know a lot of parents and teachers will agree. So now, I want to make a bunch of Language Arts tutorials for middle and high school students.

Risks and challenges

There are no great obstacles that could stop Ye Olde Tutor other than mother nature. I didn't have enough knowledge, and then I studied a lot in my freetime. I didn't have the money, and I saved enough to produce this Kickstarter campaign. I didn't have the time because I was in grad school and teaching; I now have a job that has normal hours and have completed school. This is the best time of my life to do this. The worst that could happen is the developer may not finish the job on the anticipated schedule. There is nothing stopping this train. I know it is a lot of work, but I am up for it. It's not about me; its about them.
