Over the years, with many 'KickStarters"' under my belt; I have learned to just sit back for the ride. The folks who will cheat you are going to cheat you not matter what...even if they make the product and ship it they will 'get ya' somehow. Those that are honest just wanted to make a good thing will do their best to salvage a tire fire of their own creation even if you get nothing. If you feel cheated don't whinge about it here; follow Kick-starter's procedures when you feel there is a legitimate issue.

So sit back and relax - you cannot scream or threaten your want to a solution. I look forward to more information, but I expect neither good nor bad outcomes to be what happens. A wait and see attitude isn't passivity, it just pragmatism about what sort of deal a KickStarter offers.

I backed S3 because I believe in Yu san and the team, and I still do. I look forward to seeing what awaits in 2019. Rock on, guys.

Mistook Davis Bailey's comment for yours, but you get the point.

@EMind - Don't get mad because I'm telling the truth. If you think some of the responses in this thread are proportional to the content of the update, you might need to start taking *your* meds. Sounds like high blood pressure and hypertension with how unreasonably angry you sound. Chill out, you'll live longer.

We have already been told there is more to come this year, and we're already under five weeks away from a set of details about what will be shown in March. I have no idea if what they'll reveal in Feb/March will blow your mind and shut you up, but FFS, there has to be a more measured response than losing your shit over a cutesy animated GIF.

Somehow I doubt anything will please you, though.

@Jimtendo32 - More information is coming at future events in the coming months. We were told this at the end of the last update.

Being a Kickstarter backer is not an access-all-areas affair, and for two years we had our look behind the curtain of development. We had prototype screenshots, information on new staff hires, dev diaries (and yes, glimpses at gameplay), etc. At some point though, especially with a publisher now involved, revealing more runs the risk of infringing on parts that might be included in a wider marketing plan.

What do you think will get more sizzle; an unfinished gameplay reveal a year or two before the game actually launches, or a near final look at the game a few months before the release date? Even traditional publishers are realizing a prolonged cycle of marketing isn't helpful, because over time it'll just fizzle out. It's better to save your POP moments for when your release date is closing in.

Again, for those in the cheap seats:

"There will be plenty of events with lots to unveil this coming year, and we hope everyone will hang in there with us just a little longer until August 27th."

It's just a waiting game. People watching the clock since the Kickstarter first opened in Summer 2015 surely can keep it together for just a little longer.

    7. Tracey Craig

Then you’d end up spoiling the game for yourself, i don’t want to see any gameplay footage until release...

    8. Jimtendo32 on

I want to wish the team a happy and healthy 2019, but echo the sentiments of Norman G. about communication; pretty disappointed we've seen and heard so little about the project at this point. The lack of meaningful updates since August 2018 has me very curious to see how the project has been evolving since then as the team has been very quiet the last 4 months. Considering aside from screenshots we still haven't seen a single video of gameplay, just in-engine cutscenes and FMV's, makes me disappointed the team has not shown us any of what else they're working on, that's all I would've liked for this update. I don't think it's asking too much at this point after over 3.5 years of running a kickstarter campaign that we actually get to see a little of the gameplay, not just cutscenes.

Wishing you the best for 2019, YS Net.

    9. EMind on

      @Davis Bailey
I would offer the same advice to you, but there is no such thing for retardation. Keep on living though, nothing wrong with being slow.

    10. Davis Bailey on

      @EMind take your meds.

    11. EMind on

@- Maybe stop telling people what to do.
We can complain as much as we want. This "update" is a needlessly joke, with a mediocre, kind of fan-art gif for a new year's greeting but 3 days later, way to go.
Like, that must have take less than 5 minutes to make and they couldn't bother to do it the first of January.
Screw you and screw them, your pretentious prick.

No idea what you're talking about with a PS4 conference. PSX 2016? Some fans just got hyped up, YSNET never said they'd be there. It's weak to blame them for the mess fans worked themselves into.

But let's take a look at what was actually said in the December update a few weeks ago:

"There will be plenty of events with lots to unveil this coming year, and we hope everyone will hang in there with us just a little longer until August 27th."

Can't get clearer than that. The info is going to start trickling in from Feb and build until release. Take a seat and chill. It's coming.

    13. Changed man on

more infor is comin february march? oh remember that absence at the ps4 conference? and the many other sudden absenses. where we got trolled so badly on twitter that there would be someone there but there was no one? we keep hearing ots coming and we get some fake cgi just to keep us sweet baby silent. well no not me. i smell the scam coming near. ive had it up to here

Only on the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter comments section will you find an overreaction this violent to a New Years greeting, an animated gif, and a reminder the absolute final deadline for surveys are coming up in a matter of days.

More game info is coming in Feb and March. Relax kids. It's coming.

    15. Norman G. on

Hi there ! Thanks for the wishes, we know that communication hasn't been your quality since the start of this project, therefore I can't blame the backers who are complaining about the lack of transparency or the lack of visual communication (short videos, drafts and results, etc). Moreover, here in France the videogaming journalists are making fun of Shenmue 3, almost boycotting the game for this same reason. This isn't good, but most important thing is if you are confident in your development.

Still wish that you folks at YsNet are doing well, have a good one.

    16. Amy on

A happy new year to the Shenmue team!

    17. Changed man on

The disrespect of a late happy new year with no update at all and warning ks funders. Still no real footage. All we got was cgi placeholders that only serves rabid fans. Unlike the realists and scepticus to get some raw material to know whats coming. Disastrous. Thats what i call this

    18. MindChamber on

Looks like this is becoming Mighty Number 9 all over again.

What's the idea behind the useable character restrictions for credits? I wanted to use my gaminghandle but can't as it has numbers.

You can take away the T-Shirt. I want to choose the region for my game.

    25. Bowl0l on

      *Thanks for not replying email.

    26. Bowl0l on

Why did you decide the game's region based on shipping address?
Thanks for the shitty way to decide game and 6th January 2019 as the last date to update the survey.
      Thanks for replying emails too.
      I want a full refund...

    27. Micky Brunetti on

What do mean by "selected country"?
I live in Japan by my PSN is US. Is that a problem?

How can I see my survey response?

      Carlos Bizyk on

How can I get a refund? It's becoming a abundantly clear that this game will not come out in 2019 or in the near future for thay matter. 3 years of development and no gameplay footage or even an in game image. I think this was all too good to be true.
