Hello Backers,

In this update we have some Shenmue related news we would like to bring to your attention.

Shenmue Documentary Film Project

As you may know, a documentary on Shenmue is currently live on Kickstarter entitled, “A Gamer's Journey: The Definitive History of Shenmue”.

Headed by Shenmue fan Adam Sipione, the documentary mixes interviews from those on the production side and the fan side, exploring the history of the Shenmue series and the influence it has made on the game community.

With support from the fans, the project has already reached its initial goal, but the stretch goals are within reach, so please take a look!

*”A Gamer's Journey” is not affiliated with YSNET or Shenmue III, and we will not comment on questions concerning the documentary. Thank you for your understanding.

They have to solve the issue about the PS4 region. There's no good reason not to allow backers to choose the region they want the game on.

And for the PC version, a promise to not include additional drm would be appreciated.

An update to tell us that there isn't really an update... "no comment"

Good going! Keep friends close! The film documentary of Shenmue III is now official.

We support you and look forward to welcoming all new fans from Shenmue I & II.

      The story goes on...

Just one more update - to anyone else who will be commenting.

Asking for gameplay footage is not a sign of entitlement, but intelligence. Since 2015, we have had maybe 2-3 videos that have included reused footage as well as the one with the little girl. Simple mechanics of gameplay - not cutscenes, not videos in engine, but gameplay are a necessity at this point.

Truth - we have no idea how much has been done because we haven't seen anything in gameplay.

Take the time that you need but your communication has to be better - especially when it comes to communicating anything about the gameplay and progress of this game.

Good to see the documentary getting more exposure.

Fine with a probable Gamescom no-show. If we think back to last year there were the same blustering entitled backers saying YS NET absolutely HAD to show footage at X show for Y reasons, which resulted in the well intentioned but ultimately backfiring showing at Gamescom 2017. They've probably got plenty to show, but they'll do it when THEY'RE ready and not because huffy backers say so.

No offense but this is a waste of a post. n the majority of these "fans" i'm telling you right now they aren't sh*t if they are asking such stupid questions to the point where you need a post explaining it all. from day one if you were a backer that's something you should have KNOWN, that shenmue 3 isn't apart of sega and shenmue 1 and 2 would eventually be rleased BY SEGA before shenmue 3, it's not a shock in any fucken way, it was expected and as i'm saying something you should have KNOWN from day one, because it was mentioned that sega gave temporary rights to yu to make this game possible. so to waste a post on it, that's a shame, n if it's because "fans" are stupid enough to actually be leaving it on comment sections of THIS, again speaks VOLUMES on the TRUE fans actually supporting this game. because that's sad. the documentary thing, same thing, it has nothing to do with this, why waste a post on it, with that said, i can at least UNDERSTAND that one, because it wasn't something mentioned and aye just showing more support to a shenmue 3 based thing. just these posts should actually be to update US and on the shenmue 3 itself, if there ARE stupid people part of this group asking about shenmue 1 & 2 then dude you're stupid cancel your backer already, you're not a fan. like right off the bat, because you're wasting OUR time by making these guys have to make POINTLESS posts like this because you're asking such stupid questions. this is for SHENMUE 3!!!!!!!!! PLAIN AND SIMPLE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!! so now let's get down to what i've been asking about the last 2 posts (because i made comments, so guessing you guys don't read them all, because what i was waiting for was some respose/follow up to MY QUESTION about THE GAME, NOT pointless stuff about things that don't apply to this game that "I" shoould already be 100% aware of as a backer [which i am aware of them]) but what's up with the REGION!!!!!!!!!!!!!! please give us the option to pick our region! my entire collection of shenmue is jpn versions, i currently live in usa for school but i don't want a NA version the fact that we have to be "forced" to just take the region our country we live in is based in, is unfair, i'm paying money and if this game were coming out normally (not via kickstarter) i'd be getting the jpn version. my ps4 is jpn. i have a jpn psn account (so no issues with dlc etc) and all my games are jpn aside from sports games. ps4 has NO REGION LOCKS! so for you to force the region down on us, is just unfair, as i said i do imports for a living i'm aware how they work, you want more money because it's an import? that's not a problem, the problem is YOU GIVE US NO OPTION! so why even put this on your post "Choosing your PS4 region" why even word it like that. we don't get to "choose/pick" anything you're forcing it on us. it's messed up and it needs to change by end of surveys PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!! i will pay more, that's not an issue, just please give us the option to at least pick our region. now my shenmue collection will be jpn and i'll have a kickstarter backer version but na version? like that's stupid. n all because i just simply CAN'T select the region i want. i went out of my way to get shenmue 2 back in the days FOR THE DREAMCAST! a lot of dedication for this game and a lot of love for it from the fans you guys KNOW this stuff. to force us to just have the region we're based on living is just unfair. we're paying for it, we should have the RIGHT to select which version we want. please change this :( there THAT'S something SHENMUE 3 related, so i HOPE at some point we get SOME kind of info or hopefully a way to actually pick our region. thank you.

    7. John Paul on

Sorry to double post, but I wanted to post this comment from the main comments to here as well:

I appreciate the updates and the shout out to the documentary. However, we need to start seeing gameplay footage at this point. Is it confirmed that Shenmue 3 will be at Gamescom but only Yu will not be there? You extended the slacker backer campaign again and we get little clips of supposed in game photos and that little trailer showing the little girl. - that's it.

When are we going to start seeing some actual gameplay footage with someone holding a controller and playing? I believe at this point we need to know. If the game was just Ryo walking 20 feet and then going back into the Cave to fall asleep I would say it was money well spent!

Shenmue 1 & 2 (which you have no affiliation with) is coming up in a few weeks with the Japanese in November and the hype and questions will only continue. Do you have any info on when anything - an alpha, a demo, even a demonstration will be taking place?

I am sure everyone will wait so that Yu and his team can make the best with the resources that they have. (I wish you had infinite resources but you do the best you can with what you have). However, we need to see something at this point.

With the surveys being done, you would think that the game was almost done, but we have seen nothing.

Best blessings to you! This is not spiteful in anyway. I just believe that we need to know something.

    8. John Paul on

It was great to give a Shout Out to the documentary. However, we need to see game footage. I hope that the Gamescom announcment does not mean that Shenmue 3 will also not be there. We need to start seeing something. It is the best way to communicate.

    9. Andreas on

If Yu Suzuki is not at Gamescom does that mean that Deep Silver will not show Shenmue III at Gamescom. It is a german/austrian company so it would not make sense not to show it if it releases in a couple of months.

Hi! Regarding the PS4 region selection, what if my address is in Asia but my PSN account is registered in the US region?

I already asked Fangamer about this and they told me that you will open a region selection later. When do we expect this to happen? Thank you and more power.

    11. Adam Clark on

Ok maybe you didn't say Shenmue 3 won't be at gamescom in so many words but what's going on? Is it going to be at gamescom? Why wouldn't it be?

    12. Adam Clark on

Shenmue 3 won't be at gamescom? You bloody serious?

    13. Benji Copeman on

I disagree. First of all, it's great to see official confirmation of Shenmue I and II from YSNet. Secondly, advertising the documentary Kickstarter is a fantastic idea as it reaches out to thousands of backers that otherwise may have not heard of it.

And while it's sad that Yu-san isn't going to be at Gamescom, I have full faith he is making the best game he can!

    14. Ari Tomi Stenberg on

Why they keep doing updates while they have nothing to update?

    15. Anonymous81 - #ShenmueSaved on

Really awesome of YsNet to shout out the documentary! Looking forward it as well as Shenmue 3. Glad to see you mention Shenmue 1 & 2 as well. While you can't publicly comment on it, as you said, even mentioning it will help it out. :)

@Jon God There are no plans at this time for saves to carry over from 1 & 2 to 3. It's likely it won't happen, as they are developed by different teams and published by different companies.

I have an interesting question. Will Shenmue 3 read anything off of a save from Shenmue 1&2 HD?
