New Character & Lakshya Digital

Posted by Ys Net (Creator)

Hello Everyone,

Today we unveil a new character and introduce the production team who is giving us a hand with character production, Lakshya Digital.

New Character!!

We gave a first look of this character earlier. You'll have to wait and see how she fits in with the temple in the background.

Introducing Lakshya Digital

Shenmue III will have a host of new, compelling characters from all walks of life.

And while we can't say just how many, it will be a lot! The game art studio Lakshya Digital will be cooperating with us to bring these great characters to life. Lakshya Digital is based in Gurgaon (one of India's financial and technology hubs) and has studios in Pune and Seattle, where production work for the game is underway.

That is some serious focus!

So we have outsourced art, Deep Silver working on PR and distribution, and an update to not update monthly.

These are all things I would have liked to have known during the backer campaign.

Great news ! And kinda like the new character too ! Keep up the good work. :)

As others have already said this is great news, people who don't think so need to do some research. Outsourcing is pratically a norm nowadays. These guys have also worked in great titles like NieR: Automata, MGSV, Bloodborne.
Looking forward to see more characters!

Yu Suzuki, interviewed at Gamescom in August 2017 (paraphrasing): "The NPC count in Choubu will possibly triple"

December 2017: Character model outsourcing team joins the project.

Doesn't take a brain surgeon guys. This isn't a wholesale outsourcing effort, the text of this update even infers it's to cover the expansion of the NPC count.

The studio in question are also pretty good and have worked on numerous big titles like MGSV, Bloodborne, Uncharted, and more.

Great news! Very talented people and hardworkers, they are behind some games as Uncharted for instance. And a good way to save some money!

Good news, Welcome Lakshya Digital. Outsourcing is the way to go in todays Game and Movie industry. And India is a Hot Spot for that. Some very talented and hard working peoples. I mean many AAA Studios outsourcing to India too, no one cares when the product is good. Thanks for the update!

The Indian design team will probably bring in some fresh ideas to the game. I’m optimistic about it.

Some people need to chill and do a little bit of research before complaining about Yu outsourcing for character development. It makes sense that a big project like this would be outsourced and there's nothing wrong with that. These guys at Lakshya know what they're doing, just look at games they've worked on in the past. If you guys compare the character models, before Lakshya joined the team, it needed a lot of work, now that we have a team to assist in character development , people feel the need to complain. Smh. People should be a little more positive and give this a chance!!

Tenía mis dudas sobre este nuevo equipo, pero después de informarme un poco me parece una gran incorporación. Hype por las nubes! :D

This is a great addition to the team!! I'm all excited!! If you guys do some research on Lakshya Digital, they've worked on games like Shadow of Mordor, Just Cause 3, Elder Scrolls Online, DC Universe Online, Bloodborne, Uncharted 2!!

Yeah, I gotta admit, it strikes me a bit off to know you are outsourcing so much critical stuff to of all places, India. There are no lack of talented teams in Japan.

    12. Ben B on

You've got to be kidding me.

I am completely happy with this. If all the characters are brought to this level of quality, I have no doubt this will be great. Please make sure that the animation gets the same level of attention. Liking the visual style, look forward to seeing Shenhua in this style.

    14. Ryan Lloyd on

this is excellent news, the character looks excellent. Also hoping for a more rich and detailed NPC environment with more interactions.

Outsourcing to India..... Running low on funds already? No offence but this game is Japanese and was (I presumed) to be made in Japan. Considering how many years this game has already been in production. I'm starting to feel sad about this project.

      Welcome onboard, Lakshya Digital
I don't know you guys, but I googled your name and it seems that you've got an impressive background, worked on top projects, that's exciting

@M.A., most games nowadays outsource part of the job, it's only natural. We can hope that communication will be good enough between teams ☺️

And glad to see a temple, can't wait to tidy up the walls

    17. Adam Clark on

Nice! Looks like everyone is working hard on Shenmue III. Can't wait for next year!

No news about a logo change?

Good update. I always thought there was some kind of outsourcing for character modelling in countries like China. Those guys look pretty cool.

Franchement, je suis de plus en plus enthousiaste mais j'ai peur que le jeu soit trop ambitieux pour la PS4.

For outsourced work, it doesn't even look half bad - I really hope we can see what a vertical slice of the game looks like within the next 3 months or so. I'd love to see what the actual game we'll play looks like at this stage in development.

    21. M. A.

I was thinking you would be keeping the development in Japan....just curious with the export of expertise. It is not as if there are a lack of talent and skilled character producers in Japan.
