Take your time, I have been waiting since 2001, one more year or two will not hurt. However, please really work on the project and don't try to make it more "financially lucrative" by adding new features way into the game development cycle (which were not meant to be in the game and are only added cause other games that sell well do the same). As you probably know, it will prolong the development, but still, result in a rushed finish. I'm pretty certain that I speak for most people here, waiting is ok, but if the final result is constantly crashing and filled with obvious bugs, or requires a first-day release patch in the same size as the game itself, then there will probably be a backslash. Having that said, I am really looking forward to the game and so far, it looks fantastic! Keep up the good work!

Take your time :) I know you will make it great!

I can wait, tons of games for me to play in the meantime!

I'm perfectly happy to wait for a good result. I am not sure I have much faith in this happening, considering how often the year delays turn into 2 or 3 and then end with a mediocre game. Nothing against your team, it's just so so common with any game project to run into these kinds of problems. I agree with MindChamber, show some more of your real progress. It's much better to just be honest and clear than to make hand-wavy vague excuses.

    5. MindChamber on

Considering that there's been no evidence or any real game progress..( you can only show that same stiff river jumping QTE for so many years)..
      I have serious doubts now.

    6. Clarence on

I'm just curious to what new technology is he refering too? Is he looking for more funding? Can current funding last through the extend period?

No problem in waiting a little longer. We will patiently wait.

Happy to wait, got plenty of other games to finish at the moment so it works out and would love this game to be the best it can be. So excited for another great Shemue game <3

      Just saw the update today.

Before I say anything.. I'm NOT saying to rush the game so relax with the annoying "don't rush the game" whimpers. You guys sound so annoying! He's not going to rush the game whether you ask to rush it or not.

So the game is being delayed. Big whoop. We all already knew that! So I ask again: can we get an actual update? Tell us something we don't know. Show us something we haven't seen.

What IS surprising to me is the reason for the delay. "New Technologies"? Were these new technologies only recently discovered? The game was already going to look great based on the E3 preview. Something bigger and better comes out every few months no-a-days so what's going to happen 4 months from now? 8?... back to drawing board? What I'm getting at is this: from what I've seen so far, Yu is a perfectionist. I know because I am one as well. And one thing that many perfectionist have in common is procrastination. We Think and we wonder and we question and in the end.... we end up getting very little done. We always want something to be bigger and better for our own satisfaction.

Shenmue 1 and 2 were done on a deadline and they were freakin' AWESOME!!! A perfectionist without a deadline = a long waiting period and possible failure (is the funding going to stretch another year and half?). More time to make the game does not = a better game. Now I have no doubt that in the end we'll have a great game... but could it have been just as great, if not better, without these "new technologies"? Without overthinking it?

Anyway, there's my 2 cents on it. Someone has to keep real and ask the questions that other's are too scared to ask. To say the things that one "ought not say".

It took me a little longer to see that Yu San has delayed the game for around a year, personally I think this is great news as the technology we have available now is so much more complex Tha what was available 16-17 years ago, the end result will be fantastic i have no doubts about that, what I am trying to say is the team are taking the time to give us an incredible game instead of some disappointing rush job. I am so excited for the third installment of Shenmue as with many others the game meant alot to me back when I first played Shenmue there's an understanding and calmness about it, unlike anything else I have ever played. Love Shenmue , all the best to team Yu x

    14. Eythan Hensley on

For true fans, about another year of waiting isn't that bad. Besides, Sonic Mania is just on the horizon, and that will be a treat for fans of classic Sega IP's. 2017 and 2018 look to be great years in gaming.

    15. Cristopher on

Take you time Mr. Yu! Please tell your team that we love them and hope to see the best product they can make : )

    16. Jamie McCormick on

happy to wait if the game is going to be bigger and better. just gives me time to dust off 1 & 2 and boot up my dreamcast again :)

      In Yu we trust.

I don't mind waiting a bit longer if Yu gets to bring his vision to the fans in a way that is fitting of the Shenmue name.

We've been waiting for this for so long, one more year of development won't disappoint us in any way. We know now that more development time will guarantee more quality in the final artpiece.

      DanL on

Take your time. I've waited patiently since the Dreamcast days. I can wait one more year :)

I'm happy to wait as long as it takes. Take all the time you need to make your vision come true.

    21. Jamie Edwards on

Totally fine! Yu-san and team please take all the time you need to make this great! We will all continue to be patient!

Delay = better game, think of how many games were released on time and didn't work or weren't worth playing, so take your time and do a great job as we all know you will.

    23. Missing avatar

      james on

I don't care about the delay you take you time and enjoy making the masterpiece that is shenmue

    24. Missing avatar

      ndantony on

I'm fine with the delay. It's better to delay giving more time make it the best, than to hastily push it out the door unpolished or incomplete. There've been so many games hastily released recently only disappointing players.

    25. Missing avatar

      Sean Abrams on

I've been waiting 16 years for this game to come out and we've all come to expect a certain quality from your games Yu. I have absolutely no problems waiting another 6 months for this masterpiece to be created. Besides, I'm looking forward to being able to play Shenmue III on a PC. I've got plans for a new computer build and this just means I have another 6 months to set it all up!

      So actually... Thanks!

      Brian Douglas Moran on

I fully support a delayed release if it means a better product. Release the game when it's ready, not to meet an arbitrary deadline decided on before development was underway. If anyone from the development team reads this, know you have our love and support and we Shenmue fans are very appreciative that we'll get to play another title in this excellent series.

    27. Carrioner on

I'm fine with that as long as the game will be polished. I am sick and tired of developers releasing half-ass games with day one patch.

    28. Chris Taran on

Do what you need to do Yu! We support you.

    29. Dean Briscoe on

I'd rather wait for a better game. I said that all along for Zelda Botw, and it turned out great.

    30. KazeNoBlast on

      3 points:
      - Take the time needed to let us play to the game you really want us to play
      - Don't forget we are many to ask for a HD release of the previous episodes
      - Don't forget some of us need to have the choice with audio setting to play with Japanese VO (PC and PS4) to fully enjoy the game (if it's really impossible to get them on the disk, free DLC is still possible)

Thank you for keeping us informed!

    31. Orion Anderson on

I'm happy to wait. Do it right or don't do it at all.

I'm perfectly okay with this. I will be ready to play Shenmue III once you are ready to release it. Take your time, and thank you for the update.

    34. Stan on

Yeah I kind of figured that there would be delays, being that it was hinted that there might be, but i'm okay with that Suzuki san. Just keep up the good work, and I hope it turns out the way you intended it to be. :)

      Russell Glover on

Thanks for the update. I'll echo many of the comments here... Take your time, get it right & keep nudging Sega to get 1 & 2 released in HD.

      Richard Guilbeault on

This gives more time for a HD release of Shenmue I and II before III comes along (fingers crossed).

Dan - Be brave and stay calm to make the right decision

    39. Tyler Waldman on

Waited this long. What's another six-plus months?

    40. Stuart Gairns on

After waiting this long for Shenmue 3 - I can wait a little longer.

      J Allen on

Sounds like feature creep to me. Dangerous road you're taking.

    42. Carlito's Waypoint on

As long as this game is able to live up to the original 2 games, it could be a 2020 release for me. Shenmue needs to keep its identity intact, which I'm sure it will. Always better to do it right than to do it quick.

    43. Missing avatar

      Atul Jonwal on

I don't care if it release in 2019 i want it finished and polished . Take the time in whole world. At least you guys are transparent not like other companies (EA/UBI) which rushes games and end them in disaster

    44. Karol Świątek on

Take as much time as you want. Also later release means the games is bigger and I like Shenmue that way (and perhaps we'll have Shenmue 1&2 HD Edition by then to prepare for the sequel). I won't have any problems even if you delay the release to 2020 :)

    45. Joao Guilherme Guerra on

No need to rush. This masterpiece needs to be as polished as possible.

    46. Andrew Connell on

You Sir are a gaming God of my childhood...

We trust in your ability to bring us the vision you truly want us to see, it's been 16 years since you released Shenmue 2, we can wait as long as it takes to see your final product.

Don't let the people rushing you force your hand, we know it's coming and thats better than it never being, take your time we've been patient for 16 years we can be patient another year or so more.

    47. Missing avatar

      Jonathan Coates on

I support many of my fellow backers, whom wish you to complete your vision. Please take the time needed to make this the game is should be.

    48. Navin Ramsukh on

Take all the time you need. This is how real devs do it unlike others than fall into the pressures from publishers etc to release a broken/incomplete game and then fix it later on with bullshit patches.

    49. Steven Debrincat on

We have waited long already, a year or two more is nothing. Take your time and fulfil your vision! Nothing worse than a rushed game...

    50. Timmy Han on

You have to believe it when Mr. Suzuki mentions 'new technologies', because he's not only a game director, but also an experienced programmer, which is why he's in the position to make this point valid. I like this update and deem it a good piece of news, as I want Shenmue III to be a masterpiece, and masterpieces take time to be polished! :D
