All Stitched Up is a 16 page riso comic containing two stories illustrated by Marie Enger and Karnessa, with writing by Yuriy Plisenko.
Behind every scar is a story - but have you ever had one that predated your memory? You've never known yourself without it, yet you're unsure how it got there. What if the only story you could tell is how it keeps reopening every spring? What if it would continue to do so until you found out where it came from? What if that was impossible? Then you better get handy with that needle and get working. We hear you can even use dental floss for that.
Included in this collection is also the story of an old seamstress who does whatever it takes to help a soul in need. That is, until her village burns down her house for all the help she's given. Their ingratitude inspired her to create the most elaborate tapestry she'd done so far... a human one.
Whichever tale you prefer, if you like stitches, scars, and body horror, you're in the right place.
WHO WE ARE
Karnessa is a comics artist from Siberia whose only goal in life is to tell creepy stories. Stories like CARNIVORES. She has a scar on her head from when an angry child threw a bottle at her.
Yuriy Plisenko was born and raised somewhere in Siberia but now lives somewhere in Canada. He wrote and edited COLOSSUS ZINE and made an autobio immigration simulator twine game. He once spent a day with his chest cut open, a piece of cloth covering the hole.
- 3 people
- 2 bloodcurdling stories about scars and stitches
- 16 pages
- 2 colour riso
- I (Yuriy) made Marie watch suturing tutorials on youtube
- the google doc for one of the scripts is called "The One in Which Karnessa Goes Wild"
- (and she did)
Since this is my first time running a kickstarter, the whole team decided to keep the rewards nice and simple. We're pretty proud of this spooky thing we made and we'd rather focus on making the actual comic look as good as possible rather than have too many reward options!
That being said, in addition to physical and digital copies of All Stitched Up, you can snag a patch designed by Marie (see below), and a sticker by Karnessa, if we meet our one stretch goal. More on that later, after these cool-looking pages from the project:
One last thing included in the rewards is a comic Karnessa and I made last year. Midnight is a 22 page horror-comedy about two brothers searching for an abandoned subway station, but instead finding a certain potentially cannibalistic individuals. Its got laughs, it's got scares, and it's got...well, you'll see.
We originally released it in B/W but have been wanting to release it in colour as well. This is your chance to help us make it happen!
STRETCH GOALS are similar to the rewards, nice and simple:
If the project makes $2,500, every backer getting a physical copy of the book will also get a sticker.
If the project makes $69,420, all three of us will say NICE.
A neat thing we're doing for this kickstarter is that you can pick up your rewards at Small Press Expo, taking place in Bethesda, MD, September 14-15. Marie and I will be there sitting at table M5. Make sure to select the right tier if you want to pick your book up there.
If you're not attending SPX, we will confidently walk into our nearest USPS/Canada Post location and send the rewards to you. Unfortunately, we can only offer shipping to the US and Canada. Sorry about that.
We're planning for the American orders to go out in late September - early October, after Marie returns from SPX. The Canadian orders will be shipped a bit later, closer to mid-late November, since I will be busy getting more scars and stitches. I swear I'm not just getting surgery done as a tie-in for this kickstarter.
Risks and challenges
As I have already mentioned, this is my first time running a kickstarter. It also goes without saying that there are always potential risks and challenges when it comes to printing.
However, with Marie and her 3 successful kickstarters by my side, I have complete confidence that the project will go smoothly. We will be printing All Stitched Up at Risolve Studio that Marie has an established relationship with and who are known for doing quality work in a timely manner. We are also keeping the rewards simple to ensure minimal potential delays.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
