A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.

We extract inspiration from the streets and turn it into urban proof gear. We are from Antwerp. We are DEW. We are Urban Cultivated.
We are stoked to announce our very first collection. A set of street-proof backpacks that share similar signature aesthetics. One for the essentialist. One for the actionist.
Meet Verge, a backpack made in the city, for the city. Verge has a minimalistic silhouette, eye-catching details and all the functionalities you need. Verge defies the rain, like a backpack should do.
The side loops are what makes the design so distinctive. Not only will they make you pop out of the crowd, they are also a blessing while handling the zipper on the go.
Water doesn’t get a grip on Verge. This backpack is made of 600 denier water-repellent polyester and 600 denier durable tarpaulin canvas. Verge is strong, lightweight and weatherproof.
Some of your belongings should always be in reach. Don’t worry if they’re precious, Verge stores them in its secret pocket.
Unzip Verge and you’ll be surprised. Verge has a light-colored interior, so you immediately find what you need.
Verge stands up all by itself. Its bottom is extra strong to protect your belongings.
Convenient loops in strong Hypalon attached to the shoulder straps to hang whatever needs to be in reach.
Verge keeps your stuff safe. Verge keeps you safe. Hang a bike light on its patch and ride into the night. Verge’s logo is printed with reflecting ink. It’s subtle in the daytime, and shining bright at night.
We love what we do. We love our products. We love our brand. Why not show it? #proud

We managed to start a small production batch. This enables us to ship your chosen rewards shortly after the campaign. Because it's a relatively small order, the backpacks are limited. We will be able to ship out 100 of each color per backpack right after the campaign in August 2018 (yes, that's right).
Show your love in the first week of the campaign and grab a backpack at exclusive Early Ambassador (-20%) price and enjoy exclusive access to The Foundation co-creation Facebook group. What's this? We're glad you asked. This is a closed Facebook group in which you'll be able to drop and discuss ideas together with other Foundation Members and the DEW team. Awesome, right?
Did you miss the limited early stock? No worries. We should be restocked by November 2018.
NOTE: You will be able to choose your color at the end of the campaign. We will send out surveys to collect your choice.
The refined rebel, the urban driven nature lover and the stylish functionalist, DEW represents them all. These 5 core values define the DNA of our designs.
The city inspires us, with its movements, its architecture, its life. DEW fuses urban colors, lines and shapes into gear for the streets.
DEW loves simple shapes and silhouettes with a twist. We include only the necessary, but make it look extraordinary.
We want your gear to be safe. DEW is made out of the best materials, not giving the elements a chance. DEW is lightweight and strong. Extra protection is added where needed.
We embrace technical features by making them part of the aesthetics. Some of DEW’s functionalities are visible, others are hidden. What you don’t see, is what you also get.
The Antwerp fashion academy influences our streets. It's hard to not get inspired by the outfits that wander the alleys of Antwerp. We simply observe, extract, mix and create: we like to call it streetproof.
From the very beginning, we had the idea to launch through crowdfunding. Because of fortunate circumstances, we had the opportunity to access early investment funding. This early investment round made it possible to already start the first production round with limited production units. But, we did not want to let our crowdfunding plans go. We belief we can come out stronger after a Kickstarter campaign, because we will learn a lot from you.
We still want to ask the support of those who believe in us, giving them a chance of getting their hands on the very first limited batch of our new products. This way, we hope to gather as much feedback as possible so – in the long run – we can co-create the best urban gear that perfectly fuses outdoor performance with street aesthetics.
The first round is a fairly small order: small quantity of every color. Usually manufacturers ask a pretty large minimum order quantity for 1 single color. We are fortunate to have found a manufacturer that is willing to invest in us because they believe in us. Therefore, we managed to have the manufacturer make each backpack style in 3 different colors. However, each in a smaller quantity than usually minimum required. But we really wanted this, because we want to give you the freedom of choice.
This means we have the production up and running during the campaign. In other words: you’ll receive you backpack right after the campaign ends. Awesome shizzle, right? We know.
Main reasons why we are Kickstartin’.
Learn from you. We will gather more insights on which colors, models and sizes are popular, so we can place our next (bigger) order strategically smarter.
Gather feedback after our backers receive the backpacks. Iterate to make the backpacks even better in a second version.
We strongly believe in user feedback. We’d love to hear from you! Let's co-create the next round of backpacks / new collections / new product lines. Who's up?
Risks and challenges
We’ve been working our *** off preparing the campaign to avoid as many imaginable problems as possible. We teamed up with a great manufacturer who has been in the stitched & welded backpack business for over 20 years. Not only are they experienced in making backpacks (and in large amounts…) and sourcing materials, they show lots of understanding for start-ups like us. They have been collaborating very pleasantly and have been a great help from the first day we met.
We, as a team, have a lot of experience as well. For years, we have been intensively involved in all the different stages of new product launches: from strategy & ideation all the way to manufacturing and fulfillment.
Because of the fortunate event of early funding and the willingness of our manufacturing partner, we made it possible to already start the production of a small batch of our backpacks. We have everything set and ready to start the shipment the moment the last backpack rolls out of the sewing machine. We can assure you that the backpacks* will be delivered to your door within 3-4 weeks after the Kickstarter campaign successfully ends. The quicker you fill in the post-campaign survey, the quicker you'll receive your backpack!
* Note: the final production backpacks look slightly different than the ones shown in the campaign pictures and video. At that time, we used prototypes that look very similar to the final result. Of course, overall design and highlighted features stay the same as stated above.
Our campaign should be fulfilled without problems. But still, there can always be unforeseen circumstances that delay progress. It will be our priority to keep you completely informed in the event of any bad weather occasions, stolen products, or zombie apocalypses. You have our word.
Taxes, Duties & Shipping: Please take note that we are a starting company with limited resources. We cannot absorb international taxation costs. Because our bags are stored in a warehouse in Europe, VAT, import duties, etc. might apply when shipped internationally. Due to the complex and sometimes unknown nature of international taxation, backers will be responsible for covering any VAT, import duties, etc, in their country of residence / delivery outside of Europe.
