I received word that at least one of the Civility colors is on its way to us. We should at least have that color by the end of the week (unless the weather holds it back). I'll post an update once they are here and I can get a few pictures.

Hey Adam, any news yet? Have the manufacturing issues been resolved? Just wanted to know if all was going well or if there's another unfortunate delay. Not to sound as an aggressor either, it's not your fault the company you partnered with didn't hold their standards up as was supposed to be done.

I just posted a new update for backers. In brief, at this point it still looks as though everything will be ready to ship by mid to late October, per our initial estimate. I also address some of the other questions backers had asked us about, and included a picture of one of the damaged yoyos.

    27. Persona2.small

Creator Adam Bottiglia on July 20, 2013

      Ryan,
The yoyos are being shipped to us in 2 batches. The first batch is in the final phase of production (out of 3 phases) and I expect they will be shipped to us some time next week. As soon as we have them we will begin packaging and shipping. The second batch of yoyos is through phase 1 and are just beginning phase 2. This means they could be delivered to us anywhere from 2-4 weeks. The first batch of yoyos accounts for more than half of the kickstarter supporters. As soon as I receive the first batch of yoyos we will begin posting new pictures and videos.

Thanks. I assume that tumbled green will look as nice as I expect it to be :) Looking forward to final pictures - and eventually to the yoyo itself, of course.

    30. Persona2.small

Creator Adam Bottiglia on July 2, 2013

      Andreas,
The green and red yoyos in the pictures were tumbled which is why they have a shiny appearance. The final versions of the yoyos will be blasted which will give them a matte finish like the blue yoyo. At this point these pictures are the best we can do to give everyone a feel for what the yoyos will look like. Once I get the final yoyos in hand I'll be taking more pictures of the actual yoyos we will be shipping out.

    31. 2012-07-07-0083.small

Creator Andreas G. Nie on July 2, 2013

The blue and purple look great while green and red look shiny which I don't like as much. Is that because the first two got a different finish or because of lighting? Or will green and red be shiny while blue and purple will be matte?

Based on the old pictures, I've chosen green but now blue and purple look a bit nicer because they don't appear as shiny. Could you explain a little bit more about those pictures?

Creator Jonathan Willemain on June 29, 2013

      Adam,

Is it too late to add another color selection? I bet many people would love to have a deep orange color here's an example of the color I'm thinking of on some cups

      http://www.aluminiummagazine.com/doors-and-windows/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/anodized_aluminium-glasses.jpg

      and also on a flashlight

      http://www.overstock.com/Sports-Toys/Bonzer-Polished-Deep-Orange-Flashlight/3724593/product.html

A deep yellow color could be crazy awesome as well...

One more idea is the possibility of mixing and matching colors (1 black side with 1 yellow side). However I would not want to risk having non-perfectly balanced yoyo's if that would result from the color mixing/swapping

Just my input...I understand that it be way too late in the process/ add more to costs/ too much work involved to make it happen so no hard feelings if you decide not to do anything more with the colors you have chosen.

      Respectfully

      JW

I apologize for that. It is finals week for some of us on the YoTricks team, and I have been having difficulties getting pictures from everyone with the yoyos. I will try to get those up as soon as I can.

I still can't see any pictures of the different colours on the Civility page. I understand that you want a quick response to the surveys and that's fine, but I need to make an informed decision, without more pictures I can't really do that. Please update with more pictures ASAP.

Too bad to see no updates are coming in.. No email for collecting addresses so there seems to be another delay.. I gues it would be nice if us backers are kept posted on the progress. With an original shipping of March, this has been a long wait already!?!..

I know that kickstarter projects tend to miss their deadlines but I think a piece of communication is something the project owner controls.. And for now it has been lacking there lately.

So please what is the actual status and perhaps another expectation?!

    39. Borneo_penguin_avatar.small

Creator Mercedes (Mandy) on June 7, 2013

Hang in there everyone. I think you won't be disappointed. I just received the Yoyo One which is a beginner's yoyo, it's the plastic version which is great for me because I'm just a beginner. I like it a lot :) I also went ahead and ordered a Yomega Dash from their website :) and that is one beautiful yoyo!!!! and it's arrive in Japan. So I'm sure as soon as the yoyo's are ready they'll get them sent out straight away.

Also for those that haven't backed a lot of projects, a lot of projects aren't completed by the estimated delivery date. I've backed over 160 projs (my poor wallet), and I would say only 15% actually made it on time, and the others took 6 - 8 months on average. A couple of the proj I've backed are 1 yr out, and we're still waiting. So have some faith :) Most of the projects here are startup projects, trying to do something new, or make a new product, and sometimes production takes longer than expected.

In the last update Adam posted up a comment about estimated timeframes. My rule of thumb is to give kickstarter projects about 6 months leeway :) That way if they come early, or in between the 6months, Yah!!

    40. Persona2.small

Creator Adam Bottiglia on June 5, 2013

Since Kickstarter recommends collecting addresses as close to the time when we can ship the rewards as possible, I have been putting off sending out the emails to collect addresses until the yoyos are closer to completion. The yo-yos are made in 3 phases, machining, blasting, and anodizing, and - as we have discovered - unexpected delays can take place at each phase. Having learned this along the way, I have become less comfortable giving firm estimates, even though the yoyos are currently being made and all is going well. This is also why the address collecting emails have not been sent.
That being said, I have been given very positive reports from those making the yoyos. So positive, in fact, that the emails for collecting addresses for the Civility orders could go out as early as Monday if there are no surprises from the manufacturers.

@black_fm I forgot to mention the other yoyos in my update. We are still waiting on the other yoyos to come in. My original intention was to ship everything at the same time, but if the Civility gets significantly delayed I will rethink that and get the yoyos for the other reward levels out earlier if that is possible.

EDIT (spelling): *"I'm the consumer not the producer..."

    47. Missing_small

Creator Ryan Krol on March 22, 2013

@Matthew New, no I never have produced anything, so I don't know the intricate details of what going on in the engine of this machine that we are getting behind, so it would be acceptable for me to not know what I'm doing. However, the people on kickstarter are more often than not very familiar with this process and should have experience with delays and therefore take that into account before even starting the project. If you give a date you should endeavour to stick to it, and in my experience 100% of the kickstarters that I have backed haven't done this. Your metaphor just isn't relavant, do you want me to go down to their HQ and help out, just to get this thing out on time? I'm the consumer not the process this isn't my responsibility. Do you think that because other projects haven't adhered to the given estimation date that this then becomes acceptable when further projects follow suit? As a consumer you should be annoyed every time this happens, just because you have had a lot of experience with failings from project managers this doesn't mean you should grow accustomed to it! Diablo is completely unrelated, we didn't all put our money forward on the promise of a 2005 release for it to be delayed over and over again, do you honestly think that if we did, people would be "Oh don't worry, it's finally out now, I should just be grateful that the project manager actually got off of his arse and actually put out what he promised to all those years ago." Of course we wouldn't, there would be outrage and you know it. I shouldn't have to be thankful to receive something that I have paid money to receive, the absolute bare minimum that I am owed as a consumer is a working product that is delivered when stated by the producer, nothing more, nothing less.

It would be nice if all Kickstarts would keep commenting and/or giving updates after they fund. Adam was not a frequent updater before funding, but now stuff should be happening since the funds are in hand. It would be nice if we could be kept in the loop on what is happening behind the scenes every week or so. With news tidbits, at least we can feel like there is progress and a light at the end of the (perhaps very long) tunnel and not just some black hole down which we sent our funds.

I just want to say I'm very happy this kickstarter went so well!! Also I totally respect and appreciate the fact that you are taking time to investigate the many production processes. I appreciate quality and I will happily wait as long as it takes to make the highest quality product become available.

Yes it can be dissapointing for some people to not have their expectations of a certain release date to be met but honestly you guys need to understand this is all for your benefit... rushing a product would not be in your best interest trust me.

Thank you for making the ultimate quality product available to me!!!! TYVM

    50. Missing_small

Creator Matthew New on March 15, 2013

@ Ryan Krol and everyone else who whines about delays, clearly you have never produced anything, even in somewhat smaller quantity than this project. If you wish to know how it feels to drive the bus, then make steps to get behind the wheel.
Consider the fact that none of the projects you have backed have arrived by said date, why would you expect any future projects you invest in to be the one and only exception?
In my eyes a vast majority of projects have a fairly reasonable wait time, even if it is several months later. Months are nothing compared to the amount of time we had to wait for Diablo 3... around 10 years. Consider yourself lucky.

Thus I leave you with this: Why waste your time with worrying about when said product will arrive? Be happy and thankful when it does.
