Who is Mercy and why do we need her?
The Power of Mercy is a female-fronted project. Based on a novel written by Jamaican-born author, Fiona Zedde, The Power of Mercy tells the story of Mai Redstone, a meta-human torn between her need for vengeance and her family's expectations. Mai is complex, fierce, and haunted.
She’s the badass lesbian superhero we’ve all been waiting for!
What’s the story?
To her family, Mai Redstone is weak. Her shape-shifting power is nowhere near as impressive as their abilities to literally alter the world around them. But when she puts on the costume to become Mercy, a rooftop-climbing chameleon with a thousand disguises and at least nine lives, she feels almost invincible. When a local politician is murdered and the police call Mercy in to help.
Caught between giving a medal to the killer and being forced to find the murderer for her family, Mai must make the difficult choice between family loyalty and self-preservation.
While Mai struggles with her demons, she connects with Xóchitl, a woman as enigmatic as she is beautiful. Despite herself, Mai finds herself drawn to Xóchitl, and wonders for the first time if love and happiness could be within reach.
What are the REWARDS?
The Power of Mercy is published by Ylva Publishing, a female-owned publishing house that focuses on queer women's stories and fights for diversity. We understand how important representation is, and we want to give Mercy a platform where she can shine. That’s where you come in. To create this graphic novel, we need funds for the artists, for the marketing, for the printers, for the shipping. It’s a process that we’re hoping you’ll be a part of.
