A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
DO YOU WORRY ABOUT EARTHQUAKES?
Is your life worth $159? This smart earthquake sensor technology can save your life! When you connect this palm-sized device to your WiFi, you will get the following benefits:
Get an in-home earthquake early warning sounding in your home and displayed on your phone
Detect your home's resistant strength to earthquakes
Monitor the uneven sinking of your home over time
Other vibrations monitoring (such as nearby construction work or large trucks passing, even your kids jumping up and down!)
Your sensor will contribute to our Smart Earthquake Sensor Network, working together to generate an early warning for earthquakes in your area. The more sensors on the network, the greater the efficacy of the early warning service. To help you and save others, we need your support; we need your pledge. Join The Zizmos Movement now!
WHAT IF WE COULD ALERT YOU TO AN INCOMING EARTHQUAKE?
This smart earthquake-sensing technology could save your life. An early warning of 15-20 seconds can mean the difference between severe injury or taking cover to protect yourself and your family. This smart earthquake-sensing technology can provide up to one minute of advance warning before a major earthquake hits your location.
Experts advise the Drop, Cover, and Hold On approach when an earthquake strikes, preferably shelter away from windows or objects that can fall on you during the shaking. With the warning our technology provides, you and your family can take steps to avoid injury and prevent death.
With this device in your home, you'll have the advance warning that you need to make it to a safe area before your caught off guard and your movement is impeded by shaking.

HOW DOES ZIZMOS GIVE AN EARTHQUAKE EARLY WARNING?
An earthquake is a wave that moves through the earth's crust. This is the foundation of our earthquake early warning technology. Watch this to see how we detect an early warning:
15-20 SECONDS OF ADVANCE WARNING IS ALL YOU NEED — THIS DEVICE CAN GIVE YOU EVEN MORE TIME!

HOW RELIABLE IS THIS EARTHQUAKE DETECTION SYSTEM?
Zizmos' earthquake detection system is reliable because it uses data from multiple sensors to make a decision. The more sensors, the faster and more reliable warning we can deliver. Therefore, every pledge counts and helps on our receiving the earthquake early warning. Learn more below:
HAVE YOU EVER WANTED TO SEE A "CARDIOGRAM" OF YOUR BUILDING?
Do you wonder how your home compares to others in terms of earthquake-resistant strength? Does your home shake more than it should? This sensor records earthquakes that affect your home. This sensor technology will record and analyze small and moderate quakes, which occur quite often, to detect the unique risk profile of your building.
HOW ELSE DOES THIS DEVICE HELP BEYOND EARTHQUAKE RISK MITIGATION?
Uneven foundation settling can happen even if there is never an earthquake, and this sinking can damage your home. Our device monitors your home as the foundation settles over time.
Common causes of uneven foundation settling:
Tree roots from one side of the house draw moisture from the ground. Soils with different moisture levels have different strengths, this difference in soil strength causes uneven foundation settling.
Sunlight and landscaping transform soil moisture composition around your home.
Plumbing leaks change the moisture composition on only one side of a house.
Inadequate column support
This gradual change over time leads to "Uneven Settling".
Sign of uneven settlings are:
Cracks in brick, drywall, tile, and stucco
Windows and doors that jam overtime
Sloped, bouncy, sagging floors
This Kickstarter device is also very sensitive inclinometer which monitors the settlement of your foundation over time.
The feasibility of low-cost seismic network using the Internet, cloud-connected sensors, and mobile technology has been proven by the Zizmos team (published academic papers, lab testing of sensors, and field trial in Northern CA). There is limited technical and scientific risk related to this Kickstarter project.
It is important to set proper expectations about the current scope of earthquake early warning systems. Such systems can give you as much as one minute of early warning; please do not expect a day or an hour of warning from this technology. Such technology does not exist at the time.
Regarding other benefits (monitoring building-specific risk and uneven sinking of your home), there is no technical risk that we can identify.
The greatest challenge we face is network sensor density. More sensors on the network increases the efficacy of the early warning service. If there are not enough sensors covering a given geographic area, early warning alerts may not be possible. This is why we need as many supporters as possible. Whatever the coverage in a specific are each backer will receive the benefits of knowing their building specific-risk and whether foundation-settling is unbalanced over time.
Our sensor technology has proven successful at detecting and recording earthquakes as small as magnitude 2.0. Smaller events may not be readily detected and recorded, but such events are rarely felt by humans and pose no risk to your home or building. Our sensor's ability to detect and record an earthquake is a function of the distance between the sensor and the earthquake epicenter.
Data connectivity of this sensor unit is done over WiFi only. We assume your home or building has WiFi. We use little small bandwidth, so our sensor should not significantly affect your internet speed or capacity.
This sensor unit uses standard USB for a constant power supply. The unit being supported with this Kickstarter does not include battery power. An earthquake early warning will be delivered before strong shaking hitting your home, well before your home reaches a state of power loss. If, by chance, you are experiencing a power or WiFi outage and an earthquake happens, we cannot deliver an early warning notification to your sensor.
The sensor configuration system supports only iOS and Android.
Zizmos relies on specific suppliers of parts to build our sensor units; our production timeline may be delayed a few months if our suppliers experience a shortage.
Install a sensor in your house and donate the second unit to a school of your choice.
Alternatively, Zizmos can send your second sensor in a high-risk or underserved school. Your pledge ensures that children in schools will be protected.
This reward is a rare gift for a school or community!
You will receive five (5) earthquake sensors and, as a special donor, you will have the opportunity to host an earthquake science lesson. Former Stanford Professor of Seismology, Jesse Lawrence, will give you and your guests a private lecture on geophysics and the importance of science in entrepreneurship. Jesse now runs a startup investment firm that he founded after leaving Stanford.
You receive 32 Zizmos sensors, which can protect your home with the remaining installed in schools, hospitals, and government buildings of your choice. You will build your local earthquake monitoring network, we'll name it after you!
This reward is for a bulk set of 60 Zizmos WiFi seismic sensors. As a real estate developer, landlord, or concerned citizen, install these sensors across a portfolio of properties you want to monitor and help protect. We provide remote support service and training to assist you through an easy installation process.
