About this project
We want to thank everyone for their support. This has been an incredible experience for us.
We will be continuing with the book, it will just be on a longer timeline.
We will continue to work on this project through Patreon.
Click this link to go to Patreon where we will be releasing an issue a month.
Issues include one or two chapters from the book as well as illustrations. Kind of like subscribing to a comic book. Hope you will join some of the other supporters over there.
If you haven't already done so, please do join our mailing list (click this link to sign up) so we can keep in touch with you once the Kickstarter ends.
It takes a lot of time and money to self-publish a book of this quality, which is why we went the Kickstarter route to begin with - to get it in your hands ASAP. We thank you for supporting our vision and hope that you will continue to support this project in another iteration.
Blessings, Jenn & Roberto
About This Kickstarter
The goal of this campaign is to fund a print run of Dreams of Ýdalir, an illustrated novel written by Jenn Campus and illustrated by Roberto Campus.
The finished product will be a beautiful, heirloom style, clothbound hardcover book: 160 pages, 6"x9". It will feature dozens of full page illustrations, plus many sketches, making this a novel / art book hybrid. We will also produce a narrated audio-book and PDF version, plus art prints. In the higher reward levels we invite you to become part of the story, through unique cameo opportunities with your favorite characters.
The year is 1794, Fawn is a seventeen-year-old orphaned girl, living in the Scottish lowlands. When she begins having strange dreams of a flame–haired woman named Elen who appears to be part human, part deer and Wuldor, a mysterious dark-haired woodsman who gifts her with a magical deer mask that allows her to travel to other worlds, she believes she has the resources she needs to finally find her own fey-touched mother. As her relationship with these mythical beings deepens, she writes it all down in her journal. Through this coming of age tale, she is gifted with their divine stories and learns her true origins.
Where Norse Mythology and Mists of Avalon meet, this is also the untold love story of the Gods, Ullr (Wuldor) and Elen of the Ways. The book format includes Fawn’s illustrated journal chronicling the journey from orphaned and alone to finding out her lineage extends far into the ancient past and is tied up in myth and magic.
This illustrated story, uses the rich imagery of fantasy artist Roberto Campus and speaks of magic, passion, love, acceptance and the quest to discover one’s self. It is a world that exists beneath the veil of our own familiar world and one that you will love getting lost in. It includes fundamental truths spoken by the gods themselves to help us understand our own place in the cosmos.
The book is fully written, but in the final days of writing, Jenn felt compelled to create something more intimate by presenting some of the story in journal format, written by the heroine, Fawn. The parts of the book in this format will include Fawn’s sketches and drawings, herb lore, recipes and other intimate pieces of her daily activities while she is on this incredible adventure. This format allows the reader to really get inside the mind of Fawn and be a part of her journey of discovery.
If the Kickstarter is successful the book will be published in three formats:
- A PDF edition for download
- A hardcover edition
- Audiobook narrated by Jenn Campus
So who is this book for?
Fawn, our heroine actually answers this question in the prologue of the book: “Perhaps you think this story is not for you. I once thought like you did, but when I put on the mask the whole world opened before me and I could see through the veil of humankind to the Otherworld. But there is time yet to get to that story. So I ask you instead, are you part of nature? Do you live because you eat fruit from the trees and wheat from the fields? Does a violent storm keep you from leaving home even when you had plans to go out into the world? If you answer yes, then this is your story too…For we are all bound together and the way we intertwine is what ultimately sustains us all.“.
In short, this is a book for everyone, but especially good for:

- Fans of Fantasy Art

When this Kickstarter campaign is fully funded, we will finish formatting the book to include Fawn’s journal entries and side bits, including the incredible artwork by renowned fantasy artist and illustrator Roberto Campus.
Once this is completed, we estimate end of June 2017, books will go to printing immediately. Once books are printed, rewards will be mailed out shortly thereafter, probably in August.
To accompany the hardcover book, we will create an Audiobook version of Dreams of Ýdalir exclusively for this Kickstarter campaign. The story is narrated by Jenn, set to music by Roberto (who is going to compose background music and add sound effects) to enrich the listening experience. Play the audio and look through your digital or hardcover copy, for a more immersive experience. There will be a video version also, with narration set to music and the the artwork from the book, perfect for watching on a plane or train. See the preview below:
What is a Remarque? A remarque is a small original work of art drawn directly on a book page, usually the inside cover. These will be drawn with ink. The subject matter is at the artist's discretion, but related to the story. But all remarques will be beautiful and in keeping with the artist style, and will make your book a unique artifact!
Limited Edition Prints
All the following pieces are available as limited edition 8.5x11 prints signed and numbered by the artist (unless otherwise noted):
Kickstarter is a platform which allows authors to pre-sell their book to the general public without going through a traditional publishing house. Traditional publishers usually take much of the profits from the hard work of the authors and the sale of the book. Kickstarter allows friends, family and fans to bring the project to life and directly support the creators behind the book who do everything from writing and illustrating to marketing, book formatting and working directly with the printers to get a true work of art and love into your hands.
If you are still reading this, then it means you are intrigued by our project and that means a lot! You are directly involved in making this project happen. You can help by pre-ordering a book and some art prints and/or by spreading the word about this project on social media and with your own friends and family who might also be into what we are doing here.
About The Creators
Ydalir Press was founded by Jenn and Roberto Campus - husband and wife, parents and artists, inspired by the Gods of Old, Mythology and Fantasy. Since they met, they have been working together on projects they are passionate about. They dream about living a life off the grid and working by natural light and candlelight, surrounded by tapestries like many of the great artists and writers throughout history.
A published author of two Amazon bestsellers, she has been writing stories for the past 20 years. Jenn knows that magic is inherently in the mundane and she is inspired by the days of yore. She loves reading books that pique her interest to go beyond the book and research the places and histories therein. She is especially passionate about the stories, cultures and mythology of Northern Europe. She is a practicing polytheistic Pagan devoted to Wuldor/Ullr and Elen of the Ways. An avid archer, she is obsessed with deer, especially reindeer, is a self-proclaimed herb nerd, foodie and has been known to hug trees. Her warm and cozy writing style welcomes her readers to sit at her proverbial hearth to hear fantastical stories or learn practical skills for everyday life, allowing them to tap into the ways of their ancestors.
Born and raised in Italy, Roberto is a fantasy Artist and Illustrator with 20+ years experience. He has a passion for classical painting and sculpting techniques, which he uses to create his unique style of bold, primal and adventurous Fantasy inspired art. He had a career creating illustrations for many famous publishers like Marvel and DC Comics, the Game of Thrones and War of Warcraft TCGs as well as Dungeons and Dragons and Gurps, so he has an immense passion for Fantasy. He is an expert in Digital art, as well as traditional methods such as oils, pencil, inks and pastels. He is passionate about attention to detail, loves studying the human body, nature, textures and sculpting, all of which deeply impact his work. His inventive mind furthers his mission to add more traditional beauty to the chaos of the modern world.
Risks and challenges
The biggest risk to this campaign is whether we be able to deliver this quality book on time. Fortunately, we have experience in the field of book design and writing, having already published two books (both Amazon best sellers). Therefore, our estimation should be realistic. We don't want to keep anybody waiting, so we will work very hard to deliver on time. That said, we also want you to get the quality we are promising, so no book will be shipped before we can be sure you will be proud to hold it, read it and have it a part of your prized book collection.
Sometimes the printer could encounter a problem or the proof will come back unsatisfactory. We have tried to mitigate this by making very conservative delivery dates for the hardcopy rewards listed. We will only approve the printing of the book if we are 100% pleased with the work. In the event of delays, we will be in prompt communication.
At the end of the campaign:
We may experience a small delay in the rewards that include original sketches, but as soon as we get the books and prints we will work hard to get you your rewards as fast as possible.
All pledge amounts include USPS Media Mail shipping within the continental U.S. Shipping for international orders will require additional fees. International orders will ship by USPS Priority Mail. Taxes and fees vary by country. Please be aware international orders may be required to pay a duty tax by your local postal station.
