About this project
We're a weird sort of literary mag. Our rule: no short stories, no poetry, no essays. We want to play around with literary form and narration, we want to screw with your mind! There will be personal letters, flash-fictions, glossaries, aphorisms, manuals, lists and other absurdities. We received over 600 submissions from all over the world. We've got flash fictions of sex and drugs, teenage romances, philosophical treatises, pretentious definitions, web forums, silly, sappy, scary stuff.
Writers range from completely unknown to New York Times Best Sellers (Steve Almond). The book will be illustrated with cartoons, sketches, and paintings, plus drip portraits on paper by Paul Richard. Our designer Rebecca Weiner will tailor and format each piece uniquely to create a seamless multimedia narrative experience.
The book will be available for purchase the second week in August 2011. The final product will be 6.5 x 4 inches and about 80 pages. (The same dimensions as the classic white J.D. Salinger books, just the right size to fit in your back pocket).
There will be 2,000 high quality copies printed and it will be available on Amazon, directly from the website, and at various bookstores around New York City. Some who donate get a copy delivered right to their door, everyone who donates receives a digital copy. Think of your donation as a pre-order. All of the money will go directly towards the printing and shipping of theNewerYork.
