The Kickstarter Collection
The Kickstarter Collection in your choice of 3 amazing colors. Check out the individual designs further below.
Whether you’re looking for something trendy or need something functional, you’ll find something interesting in these 4 custom designs.
iPhone Wallet – It looks equally great in your hand or on a coffee table. An easy way to stand out in a crowd.
Fits an iPhone and doubles as a wallet. There's enough space to store credit cards and cash.
Short Wallet – For the dynamic and discerning individual. This wallet is a paradox of minimalism and versatility.
Plenty of options for holding your cash, there’s space for a bunch of cards and it still manages to look slim.
Long Wallet – Stylish and chic, this unisex design has your fashion needs covered. Perfect for the casual day trip, or for an exciting night out.
Its long profile lets it store a surprising amount. There’s even a central divider compartment to store extra notes or a different currency.
Cardholder – For those that like a touch of the classics. Don't underestimate this design. It may actually be one of the more technical ones to build. Just look at the details around the corners and the amount of work needed.
Everything is neatly laid out and organized. One to savor and enjoy.
What's In The Box?
Get started right away! From the prickling irons (the fork-looking things for making stitching holes) and hole punches, to needles, thread and an awl (for enlarging stitching holes), everything is included.
To make the crafting experience super enjoyable, we’ve incorporated a few features that help make the project easier to build without diminishing the sense of satisfaction you get when you’re finished.
Premium Italian Leather – Beautiful leather in a choice of Black, Whiskey Tan and Naturally Tanned colors. The leather is slightly stiffer in the beginning, making it a touch easier to work with. However, it quickly softens with use.
The natural tan leather starts out beige but picks up an amazing patina over time, giving it that lovely, deep brown hue. From left: new leather, about 2 weeks, about a month, about 2 month’s heavy use.
Precision Die Cut – Ensures that each piece is uniform and allows us to maintain quality at higher production speeds. Hand drawn design sketches are redone as digital templates and used to create the precision dies with which the leather pieces are cut.
Stitching Grooves – Know exactly where you need to make holes for stitching. Pre-marked grooves tell you exactly where to make perforations for the stitches.
Leather Crafting Tools – Essential leather crafting tools included! All you need are a few extra things like a suitable work surface, a hammer, binder clips (to hold leather pieces together), a lighter and a craft knife or cutter.
Assembly Manual – Illustrated guide takes you through the build process. Using a combination of hand drawn sketches and digital illustrations, we put together a manual that should give crafters a good sense of what they need to do along with pointers at key steps of the build.
Online Tutorials – For when you prefer a step by step approach. Videos of the entire build process from the beginning to end are available for anyone who prefers a guided step by step approach. You can see how the project is put together before you begin so you don't miss anything.
Cardholder Mini-Project – Gain confidence with a practice mini-project first. Get a first taste of leather crafting and rack up some experience with the cardholder mini-project. Cover the basic skills and techniques you'll use for the main project, so you'll have a much better idea of what to expect beforehand.
Why Leather? Why A Kit?
There's just something cool about leather. Maybe it's the smell, or the texture or the color. The more you use it, the more it seems to become a part of you. Beautifully designed leather goods are a pleasure to use and never go out of style. Hand making your own gives you a sense of achievement that is indescribable.
The Joy Of Leather Craft
Take your time when you build your kit. Don’t rush any of the steps. Make sure you build the mini project first to get some advanced, hands on experience. Then try to appreciate how leather has managed to capture people’s imagination the world over.
Savor each moment. The thickness of the leather varies throughout the hide. Note how each perforation feels different as the prickling iron goes through the leather.
Sewing is the moment when you witness your project taking shape before you. Try to feel how the leather tenses and flexes to accommodate the tension from the thread.
What you end up with, is something that is uniquely your creation. Imbued with your personality and character.
We have the designs done, the digital template files prepared and prototypes (the ones used in the videos and product shots) made. Based on our experience testing and working with suppliers, we've nailed down the color, leather and thread choices as well.
Your support and backing allows us to commission the die cuts from our digital template files, purchase the raw materials we need (like the leather and the paper we need for the manual and box etc.), hire a little help with the packing and QC and to get the product delivered to you.
As soon as funding successfully closes, we’ll get the ball rolling with production and deliveries. We will already have backer choices for design and color so the team will be focused entirely on fulfilling orders and getting them delivered. We’re gunning to have orders delivered (barring shipping delays) to our US backers before the Thanksgiving Day and of course before Christmas.
Risks and challenges
Unexpected delays in raw material shipment (leather, boxes, tools etc.)
Delays incurred owing to reshipment of delivery-damaged raw materials.
Time required for packaging and assembling the kit (we have a contingency plan with an additional logistics company to cover for this in case our throughput becomes a problem).
