You’ve just discovered a whole new style of snacking
Welcome to ¡Yappah! Chicken Crisps, the delicious snack designed to help fight food waste crafted with rescued ingredients. When we started this project, we wanted to make a difference in the way people thought about food waste. We discovered amazing resources and committed partners, and now we’re ready to show off the vegetables of our labor (well, some grains and chicken too). ¡Yappah! Chicken Crisps is more than a great snack: it’s a lifestyle.
On a mission to rethink snacks. For good.
We discover forgotten ingredients and rescue them to create a completely new type of snack. The result: a delicious, crispy snack that you can feel good about, helps fight food waste, and has 8+ grams of protein. All with the flavor nuance of a meal.
Because, "let's waste food." Said no one. Ever.
Wondering what our 'Rescued Ingredients' really are?
¡Yappah! Chicken Crisps are crafted with flavorful veggies like carrot & celery puree from juicing or spent malted barley from brewing. Normally these nutritious ingredients would be discarded but we use them in our recipe then add chicken breast trim, the #1 ingredient, for flavor and protein! Yum.
It’s not food waste, it’s delicious new tastes! These ingredients are what make ¡Yappah! Chicken Crisps distinctly unique in taste, nutritional value and impact, helping us to use our food resources to their fullest potential.
We sent our chef on a mission: Discover Forgotten Ingredients
With the help of our in-house chef, Kang Kuan, the former sous chef of Michelin award-winning French Laundry Restaurant and a veteran of the famed restaurant Morimoto, we developed 5 unique flavor profiles each based around a central ingredient. If we found some unused carrot pulp? Boom, we make a Carrot Curry Crisp. Extra spent grain from a brewery? Kapow, here’s a White Cheddar IPA Crisp. Two flavors use veggie puree as a base, and three use spent malted barley. We call it finding beauty in the forgotten, you can just call it a tasty snack.
Snacks in a can?
Yap! Snacks in a can. Fully recyclable so that we fight food waste on the inside while fighting package waste on the outside. Before plastic bags began clogging landfills, chips were actually packaged in tin cans. At ¡Yappah! Foods we look to the past to inspire the future. That's why we updated the tin can with the sexy tallboy can before your eyes. Just pop the top and shake it out!
We go where you go
Not enough time to sit down with the family for a nice meatloaf dinner? That's cool, we're always on the run too. That's why we carbonate our cans, so they're strong, light, and defend your crisps from the dangers of the daily commute. ¡Yappah! cans are a symbol that we're not going to compromise when it comes to your snacking and impact on the planet. And that's awesome.
We apply a chef’s lens to flavors
Chef Kang knows a thing or two about balancing flavors. So it's no surprise he's able to use every ingredient to its fullest potential to create engaging culinary experiences. Check out all the ¡Yappah! Chicken Crisps Flavors:
Nothing beats an authentic Michelada cocktail. But in a snack, you ask? Yap! Chef Kang rescued some malted barley and threw in a little Mexican inspiration and came back with a Michelada cocktail composition worthy of your mouth.
Lemon, Orange, and Garlic sound like the start of a Mojo flavored dinner. No mas! The three amigos are coming to snacks. Chef Kang rescued some celery puree and chicken breast, threw in a little Latin inspiration and came back with a Celery Mojo composition worthy of your snack-time.
Chicken, Curry and Carrots are a tasty trio usually reserved for dinner. No more! The trio have invaded snack-time. Chef Kang rescued some carrot puree and chicken breast, threw in a little Indian inspiration and came back with a Carrot Curry composition with the flavor nuance of a meal.
IPA's are very drinkable. If you like hops. Now IPA flavor is very edible, if you love delicious. Chef Kang rescued some malted barley and chicken breast, threw in a little Wisconsin inspiration and crafted an IPA White Cheddar composition with the flavor nuance of a craft IPA.
Ever wish you could harness the sweet citrusy sunshine of a Shandy Beer? Consider it canned. Chef Kang rescued some malted barley and chicken breast, threw in a little Florida inspiration and came back with the flavor nuance of craft Shandy Beer.

A little bit about us!
The ¡Yappah! Story – Up in the Andes of South America, we discovered a tradition on the verge of being forgotten that made a big impact on us. It was the concept of “yapa” and it refers to the little something extra a merchant gives to a valued customer to make sure that nothing gets wasted.
We use the past to inspire us as we move forward – We can learn a lot from those that came before us. Grandma always knew how to make the most of the least. At ¡Yappah! Foods we try to capture that same spirit in our process to bring you delicious, chef composed snacks.
We believe we can make a difference – Not only can we give people new products that make a difference, we present the opportunity for people to increase their individual impact. Working together, we can make impact at scale to help fight food waste.
Meet our team:
Helping to fight food waste with a chef-developed crisp and rescued ingredients is groundbreaking, so we need passionate and like-minded groundbreakers like you to get on board. We want to connect directly with early supporters who care about creating better, more responsible food and want to join us in our mission to fight food waste. Kickstarter gives us the opportunity to reach people who believe in our mission, and can be a part of it.
Together, we can fight food waste in a big way – at scale.
Risks and challenges
We've been working hard to scale our business, but there are a lot of different parts that go into making a groundbreaking snack using rescued ingredients. This endeavor has required us to think differently about suppliers, processes and raw materials. We are learning and getting better each day. With that, there is always the potential for a setback or delay.
We are committed to having everything ready to go by December, but if any delays come up, we'll make sure to let you know.
One last thing - Americans throw out on average 3.5 pounds of food per week equating to as much as $218 billion in uneaten food each year, most of which ends up in landfills, where it emits harmful greenhouse gases. Climate change and plastic waste are both real. The biggest risk of all is inaction. Let's make the world a better place.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
