Update #5: Character Sprite Opinion & New Rewards

Hello guys! Good day to y'all~

For the past days, we've got a few feedback regarding our character sprites being inconsistent with the rest of our game's art style. Good point. We realized that our sprites didn't look exactly what we originally intended to make, which should take inspiration from Zeronis and sakimichan's art styles. Hence, we worked hard the past days to remake Becca's sprite, and we really, really need your opinion:

Which is better? The old Becca or the new Becca?
Which is better? The old Becca or the new Becca?

The picture above shows Becca's old sprite versus the new one. As you can see, the old one is faced front while the new one is angled sideways. Furthermore, the old one is more anime-ish, while the new one is stylized. What do you think, gang? Is the new one better? Or should we continue using the old one? Either way, both will still be animated in-game. We're also working hard to improve the characters' animation, but let's leave that for another update. It's gonna be legen--wait for it--dary! So stay tuned! :D

As for rewards, we decided to add another tier! For $10, we will give you a hand-made, physical copy of the "HELP ME" letter from the game (free shipping)! To all our backers who pledged on our physical tiers, you will receive this for free! ❤ Hehe, have fun pranking friends! XD

Lastly, we lowered down our ✪ EXECUTIVE PRODUCER ✪ from $10,000 to $5,000.

Before we go, we just want to give recognition to the following, magnificent projects!

Last, and certainly not the least, is Blacksea Odyssey by Team Blacksea Odyssey. It's a 2D top-down shoot ’em up with RPG and rogue-like elements. If you love RPG games and 2D shooter games like the nostalgic Space Impact, then you shouldn't miss Blacksea Odyssey. After all, the game is a great blend of RPG and 2D shooter elements, featuring different weapons and ways to destroy enemies. Their campaign is relatively new, but it seems that it already garnered quite some attention, a testament to the game's awesomeness. Don't forget to check them out if you like it!

Thanks as always everyone! See you on our next update! Stay awesome! :D

Hey gang! We've read all of your comments, and made the necessary adjustments to Becca's clothes. We also updated our character animation, and you can read about them here in our latest update: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/yangyangmobile/the-letter-2/posts/1417290

Please let us know what you think! We need your opinions! =)

New sprite is much better, the hand pose for the original looked very disturbing and unrealistic. New sprite does a pretty good job of fixing that with the closed fist design,

I really like the new model so +1 from me :) I like the new shirt better than the old one.

    4. Alex Grave on

I like the new one better^_^ not to put anyone down, but the old one, to me, looked like a generic low-effort visual novel portrait.

I don't care what shirt she wears, but I prefer the newer style ;-)

As some of you suggested, we'll look into putting her old shirt in the newer model! :) Thanks for all the comments!! :D

I really like the art style of the new sprite! I didn't have a problem with the older one, though, so take that how you will.
Like others have said, I like the shirt of the older model better. I think that might be because the colour of the newer shirt looks so much like her hair colour, which is something I've never really been fond of. And the white of the other one complimented the pink/sweet/teacher thing she had going on. It's not at all a huge problem, though.
The newer model definitely makes her look more like a person, and so should make the player care more about her survival.

    7. GregerMoek on

New art is great. Maybe there could be some scenes where she has her old shirt but I don't see the new one as an issue personally.

The new sprite art feels more in line with the rest of the game's style; I like Becca's new art more than her old sprite art.

    9. Meg Ziegler on

I prefer the new sprite a lot! She looks a lot less stiff, which is something that stuck out to me when I played the demo.

    10. Zhuravlik on

      Definitely love the new sprite.

    11. Kristi on

I really like the new art, but like others have said, put the old shirt on the new model of Becca. :)

      Spencer on

Use the new Sprite, but give her the old shirt.

    13. Yuki Cake on

I particularly like the new model of Becca since it corresponds with the game's art style more so than the old one. It doesn't look out of place in the game at all. However, I do like the old version of Becca's shirt. It looks cute :3

I wouldn't mind sending that letter to my friends XD I can pull off looking like a bloody spirit~ Good luck with the game and I look forward to the new updates!

    14. Missing avatar

      Shane on

I like the angle on the new sprite. Seems more like she is conversing with you and less like she's telling you something.

    15. Missing avatar

      Christoph E on

+1 for the new model. However, my real favorite of her is the version in the title picture!

    16. Dave Asher on

I can't really pinpoint what exactly, since I'm no expert on art, but something in the old Becca's model and Bella's chat sprite, made it look a bit odd and distracting. The eyes perhaps? But I don't really have any other complaints about the older models.
The new one however - instant boner. It looks really amazing, and in my opinion, works way better with the theme of the game, and is closer to the art in CGs. I wouldn't mind the release being delayed for a whole month or two, if it would be necessary to implement this artstyle.
But since the other comment was in older model's favor, you may want to create a poll or something, with pros and cons of each version, to get a good idea of what the majority prefers, rather than a handful of comments :)

    17. Mullet Death on

I definitely prefer the new sprite style. New Becca! New Becca!
