Production Update for October 2018
Happy Halloween, Squires!
We’re bring you a couple of good news and a not-so-desirable news in today’s update. Let’s get that one out of the way first:
Hiccups with Funding
Between various processing/platform fees and dropped/failed pledges, our total Kickstarter funds amounted to $487,808.85 HKD (or $62,178.07 USD). This was sent to our Hong Kong bank account last October 23, and from there, we had it wire-transferred to our dollar account (USD) here in the Philippines.
However, we only received $57,281.68 USD. While we understand that certain fees are going to be deducted (transfer and conversion fees, and other miscellaneous bank fees), it still came as a complete shock because we didn't expect the fees to reach as high as (almost) 10%. We were expecting it to be around 1%, or 3% maximum. 5% if we're really going to push it (although that amount will already make us feel uncomfortable). But 10% is just highway robbery.
We've already contacted our HK bank and filed for a dispute. As of writing, they have yet to give us a proper explanation on what happened, or at least how the fees were computed and deducted. Hopefully we'll hear from them in the next few weeks.
#TheLetterVN Steam Keys
As promised, all backers who pledged within the first 24 hours of the campaign, and all the succeeding backers who added an extra $40 HKD on top of their pledge, have been given their #TheLetterVN Steam keys via email last week. If you’re eligible for the promo, please check your inbox or spam. If you hadn’t received yours, please let us know!
On the other hand, if you’re a backer who pledged for the physical game box of The Letter, then your package has also been shipped last week, provided that you responded to our confirmation message. If not, then your package has been put on hold until you respond, and it will be shipped on Q1 2019 instead. Furthermore, we have recently received the tracking numbers from the courier, and we will be messaging them to you within the next few days. Please message us once you’ve received your package, so that we’ll know it arrived safely.
P.S. Some backers were asking if there’s still a way to get a Steam key of The Letter. Unfortunately, this was a Kickstarter-Exclusive only promo. Since our campaign has already ended, the promo has also expired. If you’re really interested in getting the game, it’s currently on 40% sale for both Steam and Itch.io to celebrate the Halloween season. :)
Various test prints of the physical dakimakuras have arrived in our office! Each dakimakura is printed by a different manufacturer, and we had a poll amongst the team to determine which one is the best in terms of texture, color, and overall quality.
The dakimakuras will be on sale via BackerKit. Which actually brings us to our next topic…
Set-up of our BackerKit store is 90% finished. All that’s left are to smoke test, and get the go signal for release from the BK team. During the smoke test, we will only send the BK surveys to 5% of the backers per pledge tier. Once we make sure that everything is up and running smoothly, we will then release the invites to everyone.
If everything goes according to plan, the smoke test should be done by this week, while the invites should be sent to everyone by mid-November. We’ll keep you guys posted. :)
Here’s a preview!
Remember that funds raised via BackerKit will go towards our next stretch goal: RPG Expansion! The good fight continues! :D
We’re proud to report that both Love Esquire and The Letter had been chosen to be a part of this year’s Indie Fiesta, held at the Electronic Sports and Gaming Summit (ESGS) last October 26-28. ESGS was a 3-day gaming convention here in the Philippines.
Here are some pictures of our humble space!
So far, progress for Love Esquire is going rather well. All of our departments are still on track, and the only big question that we have right now is whether or not we would reach the RPG Expansion. This is the most complex stretch goal because it encompasses the game's core mechanics, and we have to consider its possibility whenever we have team meetings.
We will give you a more detailed look on how the game is progressing in our November Production Update.
Schedule of Updates
As we move forward with production, we will be pushing out updates once per month, usually towards the end. Our updates will narrate our current progress and what we've accomplished for the month. These updates will be made public, mostly because some of our dropped Kickstarter backers pledged via Paypal instead. This way, they'd also be kept in loop with the game's development.
If you'd like to receive more frequent, albeit smaller updates, please consider supporting our Patreon. :)
That’s it for this month’s update! If you have any questions or concerns about anything, please feel free to send us a message! :)
Happy Halloween from the YYM Team (and the departed)! 🎃👻
