Hey backers… you should totally check your Humble Key page. I think there might be something there for you. Something that you’ve been patiently waiting for. It’s just a little early… because we love you a whole lot. Shhh… don’t speak. Just enjoy the moment. 

For all of you backers out there, you can now redeem your copy of Shovel Knight -- on 3DS, Wii U, PC, and Steam. We covered the exact step necessary to redeem your code in Monday's update under “How To Get Your Copy Of Shovel Knight”. So give it a look see! For clarification, the Nintendo versions are NA only, and the PC version is Windows only. We're working to get the rest out as soon as possible, so stay tuned!

For Nintendo Backers who are not in the NA region: we can still process platform requests since codes have not yet been requested. 

Wii U Players: You’ll be embarking on your Shovel Knight adventure before the game is out for everyone but Shovel Knight’s Miiverse community will not be available today. Expect it to be live at Thursday, June 26th at 9 a.m. PT. Until then you can still play every dirt covered inch of the same game as any other platform -- just without access to the Digger’s Diary!

      Just completed the game - it is truly an amazing work of art. Reminds me of Little Samson, a late NES platformer that really pushed the limits of the system - and now goes for a thousand bucks on eBay!

      I'll agree with the reviewers - you have nailed it. This game feels like we remember an awesome 8-bit game felt and looks like what we thought games looked when Ninja Gaiden's graphics were the best thing ever.

      I have an NES plugged in and still pull out Bionic Commando or Crystalis from time to time, so I know exactly what an actual 8-bit fix feels like - you have managed to distill the experience into something both identical and improved.

      Twenty years from now, people will still wonder why nobody makes games quite like the original Zelda, Faxanadu, River City Ransom, or Shovel Knight anymore.

      I have been waiting for a long time but according to the reviews the game is awesome so I can wait for a while more. However i can't shake the feeling that the european release seems like an afterthought with all translations and such. I don't in anyway demand an explanation but i would gladly appreciate one.       @Teppic: Yeah a few buttons were suggested, including up and the jump button. but each of those had their issues, so we decided on just letting it be the attack button. Maybe an option for a dedicated shovel cancel button might work, though. Glad you are enjoying it!!!

      It seems that Humble Bundle is absolutely unaware of region specifics and sent Wii U/3DS redeem codes to Europeans regardless... -_- I didn't claim mine yet because I was wondering whether NoA and NoE used the same download codes. Of course the key won't work right now, but will it work when the game is released in Europe, or should we wait for another download code?

      @ Yacht Club Games: Thanks for the explanation! I understand why you choose that route and I think a cancel button can be better in those situations. But I also think that some button other than the attack button would have been a better choice as it wouldn't make me do an action I might not want to do (ie attack), like the jump button. Or better yet, to be able to choose which button you want to use in the control options.

      So if I understand this correctly, the code I redeemed on the humble bundle page will not yet work on my EU 3DS, and all I need to do is wait? :P A shame... sounds like the game is fun :)

      Congratulations on the relase! One problem though. I am unable to redeem the 3DS code I was sent. I have double checked I have no inputted it correctly and it still does not work sadly. I assume this is because I am using a Japanese 3DS? If so is there any advice you can give me about this? Hopefully I can dig into the game soon!

      Haven't had a chance to post, but really, congrats on the uber awesome game! Playing the heck out of it and to be honest, it's been a while since I've been able to enter a state of "Gamer Zen". Back in the day, as a kid, playing the NES, my focus was as fine as a laser cutting diamonds when I went up against precision platforming. I've been able to slip back into that mode with this game. Even found myself slipping my tongue out to the side, a thing I always did as youngin' gamer back in the 80s-early 90s. Shovel Knight is a BLAST! Totally dig it!

      @Teppic: sure! We tried to simplify the input as much as possible. When bouncing up and down on multiple objects or even on the same object multiple times, it's really important that the player is able to position themselves laterally. If you are holding down and also moving left or right, it can become very tiring on the thumbs and would ultimately limit what we could expect the player to accomplish. Forcing the player to "Shovel Cancel" out of the Shovel Drop by conscious decision was the result of a lot of back and forth design sessions and implementations. I can say that we went with the best option because we tried out so many others. In the end, intentional choice of the player is most important!
      @Feenie Von Karma: Yeah I wish there was abetter system. Maybe when YCG grows as a company, we'll be able to push in more directions at once, but for now there's only half a dozen of us!

      I just wanted to say thank you and congratulations. You guys set out to create a modern yet original take on the classics from the 8-bit era, but, to me at least, it feels like so much more. You didn't just give us levels to clear and bosses to defeat, you gave us a world to explore, characters to get to know, and so on, and I love that. I'm only halfway through the game, but I'm already so engaged and invested in the world. I feel like I'm going to remember Shovel Knight forever. To me, gameplay makes a game great to play, but those other things (when done right) make a game great to have played. Those other things are what leave a lasting impression on people; they're the shovel that lets the game dig a hole into the player's heart.

      Don't get me wrong, Shovel Knight has perfect controls, creative and intelligent level and boss design, and plentiful upgrades, too! They're just one piece of the puzzle, to me at least, and many publishers and developers nowadays seem to forget that. All of you at Yacht Club Games are clearly an exception to that, and Shovel Knight is much more than just entertainment. You have created something that will affect people, and that is probably the best thing you can do as a game creator. So, thank you for putting so much care into this game. You guys are amazing.

      To the fine folks at Yacht Club Games,

      This game is amazing. I downloaded it last night for the Wii U. I played it this morning with my kids. This is such an awesome game. I love the difficulty and the quirkiness of the villagers. So far I have laid the smackdown on Black Knight, King Knight, and Spectre Knight. It has hard just getting to Spectre Knight, but that made the victory all the sweeter. I am totally looking forward to beating this game and then playing the gender swap mode and the Boss playthrough mode. Words just don't give this title justice nay! shovel justice as to how incredibly well this game is. Great work and vision. Keep it up.

      P.S. Next up for Yacht Club... Shovel Knight X? (16 bit themed game)

      P.S.S. I can not wait to see what awesome game you all come up with next. You have a backer for life. I will say though that Shovel Knight is a franchise title worthy of a follow up. You all rock!

      Downloaded my copy for 3DS this morning before I left for work; had the chance to play it after lunch (at work).

      By my standards, it's *hard* - I couldn't get past the Black Knight during that first attempt, with multiple continues. ;.; But it's also fun, and so far the fun is outweighing the frustration.

      I feel that my investment in this project has been money well spent. Keep up the good work, Yacht Club Games! (And I look forward to getting the soundtrack. :)

While I know it was as much for yourselves as it was for others, please know that your creation has already found a fond place in my heart that I want sure existed anymore. This game it's deeply satisfying, energizing, and challenging for this old kid that thought hehad left his best game playing years behind.

      This is a masterpiece, and if it doesn't translate into a large financial success, know that you accomplished your goal in making something both brilliant and passionate.

      Not loving as much: How come the B button is used to confirm stuff? The 3DS and Wii U menu system is set up so that A is confirm and B is cancel, so swapping when one gets into the game menus is awkward.

      That is my one and only complaint. :) Such a great game!

      Loving: THE GAME. Amazing, even better than I'd thought. There were so many directions this game could have taken and been great, but I believe the best direction was chosen. It already feels more like a sequel than an original because everything is so tight, polished and expansive. Wonderful! So happy with it.

      This was a sweet surprise! I defeated the Black Knight and visited the village, talking to everybody before making myself go to bed. I received an allergy shot this morning, which is followed by a mandatory 20 minute waiting period, which I spent playing the Pridemoor Keep level and defeating King Knight. I absolutely love it! I especially enjoyed finding secret areas and the 3D was fantastic! I loved seeing the background layers scrolling by and the lava popping out of the screen as it hit the castle floor. Well done! I can tell a lot of hard work (and love) went into this game. Modern techniques used on a beautifully nostalgia-wrapped package make for a happy old-school gamer. It's very impressive, especially considering it was made by five people. I hope Shovel Knight is very successful for you, Yacht Club. You've earned it.

      P.S. - looking forward to all those stretch goal goodies! Also curious if you've had a chance to consider what your next game will be...

      @Teppic In just the first stage, there's a "puzzle" in regards to this game mechanic: there's a large block containing a gem, and if y ou dig straight down, you'll miss it. So you have to figure out how not to do that.

      @Yacht Club Games: Can you give me an example when a continuing downward thrust without holding down is needed? I can understand if it's something that affects gameplay someway and that's why you need it in. But I can't come up with anything myself when this feature is needed. It made me die a few times because I didn't work like all other games with downward thrust in them. Having to press an extra button to stop doing it seems unnecessary to me.

      @Teppic: actually that was a conscious choice we made during development and there are few setups that are designed around having to cancel the Shovel Drop with a Dig Slash. We talked about it a lot, but in the end, we decided that the Shovel Drop would work best as the way we implemented. Maybe we'll change our minds on the matter but I would expect that aspect of the game not to change! Also thanks for enjoying it!

      @Nathan Maloy and everyone else wondering about their non-NOA keys: The other regions are currently being worked on. We are waiting for localization to come in and, once implemented, we'll send the game off for European certifications! Once we have a better handle on the timing of all this we'll let everyone know!

      @Bethany Heck and everyone else wondering about the mac and linux versions: since mac and linux are stretch goals they'll be coming in at a later date. We already have linux running and the mac is hot on its heals. Once we have a clearer picture on this we'll let you know! However, that code that puts shovel Knight on your steam account is all you need. Once the mac version is out, it'll show up as an option to choose from in the store menu!
