Greetings, blue burrowers! It's a new year and we have a lot to share, so let’s dig in!

Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove and Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment will be launching this April!

Yay — the next expansion, Specter of Torment, is coming soon! But you might be wondering what is Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove? Before we get to that, we have more announcements to uncover!

Body Swap Mode for Shovel Knight will launch simultaneously with Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment!

Body Swap Mode is finally done! You can individually switch the body types of any Order of No Quarter Knight, Enchantress, Shovel Knight, Shield Knight, and Black Knight. Here’s your first look at body-swapped Shovel Knight and Shield Knight!!

Shovel Knight two player co-op will be available for all consoles!!

Finally!! After many requests! Grab a friend and rejoice! Local two player co-op in Shovel Knight’s campaign is coming as a free update to all console and PC platforms (3DS/Vita not included). amiibo not required!

Sound Test Mode

For all you music lovers, we’ve decided to add a Shovel Knight Sound Test Mode where you can listen to all the tracks from every campaign. It’ll be a free update to all versions of the game.

Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove and Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment will be released first for Nintendo Switch's launch window!

Get ready for Shovel Knight Co-op using Joy-Cons, Specter of Torment, Body Swap Mode, new challenge stages, new feats, and more on your new Nintendo Switch!! The other consoles and standalone versions will follow suit in April (dates to be confirmed once submitted and approved by platform holders).

Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment and Shovel Knight Co-op at PAX South

We're back on the road again-- this time bound for San Antonio, Texas! January 27th to the 29th. This will be the first time you can experience Specter of Torment so be sure to join us and even play on the Nintendo Switch! Hope to see you there!

Introducing Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove

Okay! Soon, the game you now know as Shovel Knight will become Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. When that happens, you’ll also have new options to purchase each campaign as separate, standalone games on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC/Mac/Linux, and Nintendo Switch:

Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope — Shovel of Hope is our new name for the original Shovel Knight game. But it needed a title like the others! What do you think?

Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows — Plague Knight’s Campaign emerges from the Shadows to hopefully get some recognition this time!

Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment — Specter of Torment is our most expansive campaign yet. We’re so excited for you to become the reaper! If you haven't yet seen the trailer we posted in the last update, well then you can watch it here.

Why is this happening? Well, we hope providing less expensive standalone versions will provide better entry points for different types of players. Also, players can more easily grab an adventure (or Battle Mode) on another platform.

All owners of Shovel Knight on all platforms (and therefore all versions obtained by backing Shovel Knight), will automatically own Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove instead and will continue to get each of the planned free campaigns and features via updates. It will work exactly like how Shovel Knight was updated to include its first campaign addition, Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows. Don’t worry!

In the spring, we will be raising the price of Shovel Knight. If you haven’t picked up Shovel Knight on a particular system yet and want all the content included within Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, buy it now before the price increases this Spring! Or pick a selection of the standalone versions for a cheaper price. Or continue enjoying the new content right at home on the version you have now.

Don’t forget King Knight’s very own campaign and the 4-player Battle Mode are still on the horizon for 2017. As described above, they will become available as standalone games on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC/Mac/Linux, and Nintendo Switch and will also be delivered as FREE updates on ALL platforms to Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. Look forward to more news on these in the future!

All Your Questions!

We understand all the news might leave you a bit puzzled. If you have any questions, let us know and we’ll continue to update this page.

That’s all we’ve got for today! Whether you're trying Shovel Knight out a new system, or playing on the original platform you backed Shovel Knight for way back when, we hope you enjoy playing these new updates!

I backed this to get a wii u version - would consider repurchading for switch if it was a reasonable price / discount for existing owners... but failing that i gather wii u copy will get all content eventually. Just a shame to be waiting for it

    2. Joe Fernandez on

Can't wait, what's next for shoves? His own movie, or sequels. Also you guys should have his amiibo work with other things.

How does this work for those of us that picked the Wii U version? Is development on that finished? I am planning on picking up a Switch, will my copy transfer over since I was a backer to get the full amount of content?

    4. Brian Denning on

Oh no, you have to wait a whole MONTH, so they can give people some incentive to buy it for the Switch. How despicable! it's not like you're STILL getting it for free or anything...

    5. Cameron W. on

Well then, I'm glad I already own the game then! Lol, never heard of deliberately raising the price of a game as it gets older (unless it's like a rare, mint-condition SNES game or something). Ah well, the new content looks cool and though I never beat Plague (it was a bit...bothersome) I'd be willing to give Specter a go!

    6. Sander Evers on

I'm going to get the Switch version as well. I wonder what the increased price will be?

One more question for your FAQ: Will you update Shovel Knight with any more content after you finish all the promised stretch goal content?

Gotta say, this is an absurdly low-class move from a company who up until now had been doing quite well. Telling your backers that they're going to get content a month or so after new buyers is pretty ridiculous. If any other kickstarter on the planet did that they'd be mocked to high heaven. People who specifically backed your campaign now have to spend a month dodging spoilers for content that exists because of the stretch goals they helped hit?

    9. ABIB on

Not sure why everyone is bringing up the kickstarter, the Switch-first release of this new content proves that we apparently matter less than Nintendo. I guess they traded it for marketing. It's true we didn't pay for release parity, but it still feels odd that we're going to be getting the content we ostensibly paid for after people who buy it a few months from now for the Switch.

"Individually"? Does that mean that I can make Shovel Knight and Shield Knight be two men/two women?

      That'd be neat.

    11. Jarrah on

Came here to say that this is one of the best Kickstarters I've been part of, found out everyone else is saying the same thing. +1

We'll have more information on mode specifics, such as Body Swap, over on our website once as we are closer to release.

      @Gamemaniac3434
Both the Vita and 3DS versions will be receiving the save campaign and modes via future updates, but they will not be receiving Battle Mode and Co-Op. As these are same-system multiplayer features only.

    13. GM3434 on

Hey guys, good to hear things are still moving and I wish you the best with this new schema-this is one of the best KS campaigns Ive backed and Ive had nothing but good interactions with you. I did have a question-I didnt notice the Vita version or 3DS versions noticed so I'm curious what the plan with those is going forward or if it was an oversight. Thanks!

Somehow you guys just keep proving over and over that this is the best Kickstarter campaign ever...!

    15. Matthew Boychuk on

Robin Tulestedt it looks like it's more gender swap in execution. But whatever.

I wonder if there will be any narrative behind the change like a plague knight potion of if it will just be purely cosmetic.

    16. Robin Tulestedt on

This is awesome and all, but.. Body Swap? I thought it was "Gender Swap", as in, every character in the story would be flipped? I dunno, man. Or do you mean that you can like change gender of whatever boss you want in a menu or something, but you just changed the name of it to Body Swap instead of Gender? 'Cause that's cool.

    17. Justin Holmes on

What did I buy this amiibo for, exactly?

    18. Yo Chupacabro! on

The best Kickstarter I've backed, bar none. Keep up all the hard work!
