Hello again everyone!

After a long, exhilarating, and occasionally stressful Kickstarter, we have reached well above our original funding goal, as well as having reached all 3 of our stretch goals, thanks to the support from all of you.  We will continue to update you as we progress, but we are now focused on the task of delivering the product to all our backers, on time.

We will be getting the surveys out in 2 weeks, so keep an eye out for them in your email.  We are working with our manufacturer getting all the final kinks worked out there so we will be ready on the hardware side as soon as possible.

We had hoped to announce the beta version of the XY app in the app store today, but instead we were told by Apple that we need to send them hardware so that they can test the App fully before they will approve us -- we sent the tags to Apple this morning, and are working with them to get the App approved and in your hands as soon as possible.  Current ETA is end of the week.

This being beta software, there exist major issues with the app, which we are working out.  However we want to show everyone that we have made great progress and that the base of the app is functional.

Other than that, we are finally taking a quick breath before diving full bore into the next load of work.

Thank you all again for your wonderful support!

Nick, Daniel, and the XY Team

It goes beyond privacy concerns. What happens when they go out of business? Hardware is now useless.

Further to that, if I've got this tag attached to my luggage, land in an airport or stop in a bus station with no publi wifi... How can I locate my device? Doesn't 'need' the internet because it's a Bluetooth device, but I can't log in to the software because the software requires cloud access...

      And I could go on....

@Waldo FB There's somewhat of a need if you want to be part of a public hide n seek for your lost things. If you lose an item and reported it as lost, another person who comes close with the tag may be able to get the item back to you. I understand your desire to personal information, though I really think you should chillout a little.

That can all be done locally without any connection to the internet.

So, of you do not intend to make this device usable without subscribing to some form of service or proofing my information, can I cancel my order and request a refund please? I do not wish to tie my equipment to any third party service in any form, as there is literally no need for it.

Soooo excited to receive my product whenever it is ready so I'll hang in there with no complaints. Great job reaching all the stretch goals. Good luck as you forge forward!

@Justin, the app should not require additional certifications, but it is an option for the XY "jewel" beacon hardware. Apple very recently finalized the iBeacon certification process as part of their MFI program... we are investigating it.

    7. Justin Mitchell on

You guys weren't required to be MFI certified right? Wondering for a personal project of mine.

Also, as a professional ui/ux designer I applaud your app design. It's gorgeous and I can't wait to use it.

@InverseSandwich - Thank you! We are excited about it, and about using it ourselves!

@Robert - Android is really important to us, and we have plenty of Android users in our office, so you will not be forgotten.

@Jason - Yeah, we were a little surprised too, but we sent them a sample overnight mail and we hope things happen fast.

@Waldo - An XY account is required to "claim" your XY tags and remember those pairings, and that authentication makes sure that unauthorized access to your beacon isn't a possibility. So yes, you will need to be "connected". But, having said all that, we are very serious about privacy and protecting your information.

I am also an Android user... and I also really hope that they get the Android app up and running as well as the Apple app. I got a 10 pack and it would really be a bummer if they don't work because of a faulty Android app.

I'm an apple user but they made you send them the hardware before approving the app?? Something about that just doesn't sound right... overstepping boundaries there.

Question; your interface appears to require we sign up and provide personal information. My understanding was that the devices would function without any form of cloud or internet service. Please confirm that we will be able to use the equipment without any internet service and that I will not be required to provide you with email address or personal info if I so choose.

@Dan - We are big fans of Android, as about half of us in the office have Android devices. We are working hard to get the Android app ready too. June is right around the corner...

I only have Android smartphones in my household. ..why are you only talking about Apple beta ... What happened to the Android version ... there are a lot of us out here ...

    15. XY-FindIt Creator on

@eliter1 - Glad you could join us at WonderCon! We are working hard on the Android version, but yes ... the iOS version is further along right now.

@Raymond - Tags in June! And, we plan on having a version for Android ready then too.

@ Mario - Thank you for contacting us. We are working up a list of potential distribution partners.

Bought a tag at WonderCon and my brother and I got a couple more from the scavenger hunt but we only have Android devices. Hope you guys can get an android beta out soon so we can give them a test run.

    17. Raymond Tu on

Is the android app ready for beta testing? I mean, I'd test it right now, but seeing as I don't have tags that's a problem haha.
