Help PM Press and Between the Lines publish Advertising Shits in Your Head: Strategies for Resistance, a full-color manifesto against corporate advertising, a documentary of the groups fighting against ads, and a guide on how you can join the war.
About the book
Advertising Shits in Your Head calls ads what they are—a powerful means of control through manipulation—and highlights how people across the world are fighting back. It diagnoses the problem and offers practical tips for a DIY remedy. Faced with an ad-saturated world, activists are fighting back, equipped with stencils, printers, high-visibility vests, and utility tools. Their aim is to subvert the ads that control us.
This is a call to arts for a generation raised on ads. Beginning with a rich and detailed analysis of the pernicious hold advertising has on our lives, the book then moves on to offer practical solutions and guidance on how to subvert the ads. Using a combination of ethnographic research and theoretical analysis, Advertising Shits in Your Head investigates the claims made by subvertising practitioners and shows how they impact their practice.

The book is ready to be printed by Calverts, a worker owned and run co-operative in London, UK, which will also print the stickers, cards, and covers that make up the rewards available for this project.
The book is 218 pages of full-color and high-detail material. The cost of printing and shipping this book is roughly four times the cost of an average black text on white paper book of a similar size. We want the messages in the book to reach as wide an audience as possible, and to do so we want to keep the list price down. That's where you come in.
This Kickstarter will help get the book to the printer and into as many hands as possible—the more pre-orders we get, the more copies we can print! By supporting this project, you'll help us complete and distribute this timely manifesto against advertising, and hopefully inspire people around the world to fight back against the capture of public space by the plague of adverts.
Including items from PM Press' back catalogue, works created by contributors to Advertising Shits in Your Head, and limited edition pieces especially made for this Kickstarter; there's something here for everyone!
Everyone that orders a physical copy of Advertising Shits in Your Head will, at the end of the campaign, be able to select their preferred ebook format (epub, mobi, and pdf) and PM Press will send across a digital copy of the book.
Risks and challenges
The book is now ready to print, and our printers have begun the work, however - there are risks with transatlantic shipping which might impact on reward delivery timelines.
Timelines for reward delivery:
Subject to agreeable seas [we have to ship the books across the Atlantic] we hope to be sending out the majority of rewards at the start of September to backers in the UK, Europe, and the USA. For some of the specially commissioned rewards, these will ship later in October 2019 once we know how many items will need to be created.
