Frequently Asked Questions
No, and that's the exciting part. We are clever but by no means geniuses (even if that's what we think from time to time). We are still working and brainstorming the best way to provide some of these software experiences. As such, we would love to hear from you about what you think would be the best way to do that.
If you have an idea of how the GPS should function or a neat way to incorporate the two-way audio either share it with us so we can evaluate its inclusion, or ask for our SDK and develop it yourself. This is a platform for growth both from within WÜF and from dog-owning developers around the world.
And thats the beauty of Kickstarter - our customers become our partners to build the best product possible.Last updated:
The Invisible Leash is definitely one of our coolest inventions. We are excited for people to experience the benefit of this new off-leash control, but since its so new, we will share more information on how it works.
First off, it’s important to note that this feature is not available right out of the gate. To assure highest quality and functionality of the feature, dogs and owners must first demonstrate their ability to use the feature. So, we’ve developed a training and testing program to do just that and ensure that your dog isn’t left thinking: “What the heck is that noise?!?!”
Here’s how it goes:
First, we start with acclimating your dog to the Voice Commands coming from the device. You can choose to record your own or use the pre-loaded Male or Female voice. Starting with “sit”, “stay”, “down”, etc. while in your kitchen (or other quiet place), you help your dog make the connection of the individual sounds and their respective desired actions, with you gesturing as you would normally.
Conquering this area is key, as you must verify that your dog understands and responds to each sound as if you were speaking it yourself. WÜF’s motion tracker is able to detect if this is going as intended and even provide feedback on it.
Once you’ve mastered this, you move on to the most important command in the WÜF arsenal: “stop”. Including vibration, this command is intended to get your dog to simply stop whatever it is he/she is doing at that moment. Again, starting some place quiet, repeat until your dog consistently stops and looks to you for the next command.
When that gets easy, move to a place with more distractions and repeat until same results are achieved.
The final piece is to add in the “come” command, so that once your dog is stopped and looking for his next move, he comes right on back to you. Once mastered, no matter where you guys are, your dog will have a set series of steps to walk through and find his way back to you.
NOW, you are ready for the invisible leash. Take it out for a walk or venture into the woods and experience what peace of mind from off-leash control feels like.Last updated:
Our Free App is perfect for dog owners who mainly want the peace of mind that GPS provides and would occasionally use some of the other cool features that WÜF offers, like bark alerts or feeding recommendations.
For all users, the following will be completely free:
GPS & GSM - WUF provides a $10 credit (one-time upon purchase), which is then used like a pre-paid cell phone plan, whereby the balance is reduced every time the GSM is used. GPS in and of itself does not transmit data, so until GSM is triggered, there is no cost. And much like pre-paid cell phone plans, additional credits can be purchased and added to the collar via your personal WUF account profile.
Activity Tracking - Setting up your WUF account means entering in your dog’s name, age, breed, weight and type of food fed. Once set, we provide activity tracking on an overall scale of "sleep, low, medium and high activity”, to provide the key metric of “How Much To Feed Your Dog Today”.
Two-Way Audio - When near your dog, two-way audio is communicate via Bluetooth Low Energy, therefor incurring no data fees. When away from your dog, data is transmitted via GSM, which adheres to the same “pre-paid cell phone” structure as mentioned above.
Additionally, you’ll be able to record and play up to a set number of voice commands, be alerted when your dog is barking heavily or aggressively and utilize a basic version of the Invisible Leash.
Training - Our proprietary method of dog training is similar to the language learning app Duolingo, with bite sized programs that allow you to master the art at just 10-20 minutes a day. The free edition will include the first several lessons in this program to get you rolling and see if its a good fit for you.
Content - You’ll have access to a selection of free content from trainers, vets, scientists, walkers, groomers, etc. to fulfill your desire to stay up to date on latest practices and ideas.
Social - You’ll have direct integration of social features like finding dog-friendly restaurants, seeing what other dogs are in the park and even scheduling doggie play dates with them.Last updated:
For owners who want to dive deeper into all that "connected canine" has to offer, there are a myriad number of ways to upgrade, expand or enhance the experience that you have with your pup on a daily basis.
Some examples of upgrades available are:
GPS & GSM - Unlimited access to location tracking and data transfer, whether your dog runs away once or every day. Cost likely between $5-8 per month.
Activity Tracking - Advanced analytics on activity broken down specifically by breed with detailed precision to provide things like steps taken and miles walked/ran, while also allowing to explore how that compares to other dogs of similar breeds, weights and ages. This would also include the ability to connect directly to your veterinarian so that your dog's doctor can keep an eye on their activity and proactively alert you if there is a reason for concern. Cost likely between $2-6 per month.
Two-Way Audio - Unlimited GSM data transfer, unlimited voice commands, additional customization and specifications with the Invisible Leash.
Training - You can choose to purchase additional training lessons a-la-carter or upgrade to unlimited access to all training programs. Individual lessons will likely cost $.99 while unlimited will likely cost $6-12 per month.
Content - Unlimited access to a greater range of content along with the ability to share, copy, download and print. Cost likely between $3-5 per month.
Social - Social will always be free.Last updated:
There will be no required fees for any part of WÜF.
Current Set Up:
WÜF ships with a sim card built in and a $10 GSM credit that works like a pre-paid cell phone plan, so you simply maintain a balance to pay as you go for only what you use.
Hopefully your pup wont run away too often, so GSM will stay dormant (read: free) until he does and then will automatically switch on to transmit his location to you.
Future Set Up:
We will either continue with the above concept or implement one of the exciting M2M communication tools like SigFox or Helium to eliminate the need for GSM and its associated costs.Last updated:
