Who is Pistol Lake?
Ethically Made in Los Angeles
It's about standing up for what we believe in.
Over the last thirty years almost all manufacturing has been outsourced, often to the lowest-price countries and factories. Many of these countries don’t have the laws or law-enforcement to hold the factory owners accountable. We believe that until companies take responsibility for the people making their goods, travesties like Rana Plaza, where a thousand people died in a building collapse, will continue to happen.
We’re doing things differently. For the last six years we've manufactured in factories in Los Angeles. We're on the sewing floors, watching as our clothes are sewn. All employees get fair wages, benefits, and mandatory time off. Together, we can bring opportunities, livelihoods, and good wages to the people that work with us.
Our Commitment to Sustainable Manufacturing
We believe in doing as much as we can to help the planet. We previously invented a proprietary fabric made from recycled water bottles and the pulp of Eucalyptus trees. We call it Eudae and it currently makes up the bulk of our products. Each one of our One-Bag Henley’s is comprised of 11 recycled water bottles. Eudae's success has been a huge jumping off point for moving steadily toward a full line of versatile garments made with low-impact fabrics.
In addition to inventing our own proprietary sustainable fabric, we are absolutely committed to sustainable practices across the supply chain. Our factory partners in LA produce little waste. They recycle cardboard, paper, and plastic. Our sewing factory is three miles from our shipping warehouse, and the majority of our fabrics are milled in Los Angeles. Our dye house is local as well and is GOTS Certified, meeting worldwide textile standards for low impact processing, including ecological, social, and environmental requirements. We don't use poly bags when we ship our garments to customers to minimize our plastic use.
In short, we're committed to keeping our impact low and changing the paradigm in apparel.
All-Around Shorts Sustainability
There's another insidious problem plaguing the fashion world right now. Your average piece of clothing travels a ridiculous distance, ping-ponging across the globe and creating an enormous carbon footprint along the way.
For our All-around shorts, we're using a high quality technical Nylon fabric sourced within North America. The fabric is created at our partner factory in Canada and shipped to our cut/sew partners in Los Angeles. From there the shorts will travel a few miles down the road to our logistics center to be shipped direct to you. No unnecessary trips across multiple oceans.
The shorts are made mostly of Nylon, which is highly durable and resilient to stress over time. In addition, we construct the shorts in Los Angeles with rigorous standards for quality. We've tested the All-around Shorts for over a year before launching to make sure they withstand the stress of the outdoors, high-intensity workouts, the daily city grind, and repeated washing and drying. You won't need to replace or throw them out as they're made for the long haul.
Timeline for Delivery
This project is promoted by Jellop, the ad tech power behind the best Kickstarters with 800+ successful Kickstarter projects with over $350MM raised between them.
Risks and challenges
This is our third Kickstarter, and 10th pre-order campaign.
We've been manufacturing apparel in Los Angeles for seven years, working primarily with the same partners.
We've built a reputation for having the best customer service in the industry, so you can rest assured, you'll be satisfied with your rewards. We stand behind everything we make 100%.
Things can always pop up. Our initial short-runs of these shorts (pun sorta intended) and experience in manufacturing has allowed us to prepare for most of the risks in making new products, but things can always happen. We'll be posting many updates per week along the way, and will always be overly communicative of any issues we have to deal with.
Ship Date: We are confident we will ship by the projected dates, but if demand is much higher than expected, it is possible that the yarn vendors don't have sufficient stock of raw supplies. This could add up to a month onto our expected delivery date.
Product Changes: As we receive feedback of early backers and testers, we're going to continue to make pre-production improvements to our designs.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
