Deadly Little Secrets, a novel, zooms in on the early years of the AIDS epidemic when more than a few folks in this country believed it was their God's answer to sin. The novel is in solid form. In 2000, my literary agent liked it. However, she wouldn't take it on because she believed 'AIDS is passe' - her exact words. Though she was wrong, our country's politics at that time probably fed into this view. I'm revising portions of the story that features a 'big mouth' school nurse, activist teenagers, angry parents, an ambitious school board member seeking higher office, shady business dealings involving the Camen Islands and a physician who does not do the right thing.
Money raised here will pay the cost of editing Deadly Little Secrets. Back when I wrote this novel, I workshopped it quite a bit, but I'm revising and need an editor's eagle eye on the manuscript. Any left over funds will be channeled into marketing, book cover design, a book trailer and online publication costs.
Good editors cost about $1500.00. This gives supporters some idea of how the $3,000.00 will be parsed out.
Risks and challenges
None. I have total control over publication. Here's my plan: sell the hell out of it, which could get the attention of 'traditional' publishing. Should that happen, it will only increase my distribution. With or without traditional publishing's help, I will sell this story to my network. The LGBT community knows that I'm a friend and have been for a long time. My friendship/support is easily traced through the many articles I penned and got published in newspapers back when very few writers were focused about this plague. I also have a very visible presence in social media. I'm quite opinionated. The contentious politics of our times have offered many opportunities to share my opinions about the bigotry spewed by the extreme religious right wing...and I have.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
