What's This Campaign All About?
From the designers of Assembly*, this Kickstarter brings you fresh new content in three forms:
- Sensor Ghosts: A brand new, stand-alone game that is the thematically sequel to Assembly.
- Re-Sequence & Override: A new double expansion for Assembly, mixing up the rules and introducing Robomeeples (base game required).
- Assembly 3-4 player: A new ruleset to let you play the base game with 3 or 4 players (requires 2 copies of Assembly - add £20 to any pledge level to purchase a copy of Assembly).
*Awarded Dice Tower Seal of Approval by Zee Garcia & Mensa Mind Games Finalist
Keep scrolling for more information about Assembly and Re-Sequence & Override, but first we cover Sensor Ghosts.
NOTE: Although Assembly and Sensor Ghosts are similar in profile they are different in mechanics and are two stand-alone games. You do not need to own or be familiar with Assembly to play Sensor Ghosts or vice versa.
Sensor Ghosts is a cooperativemoving maze and hidden information puzzle game that's quick to learn, fast and highly replayable.
Navigating through the ever moving asteroid belt and collecting a virus sample requires planning, strategic thinking and perhaps even a bit of luck, however not everything is as it seems - you must create a safe path in order to safely return to Earth.
Working alone or with your fellow escapees, time is of the essence but you must use your fuel wisely else you will become stranded, or worse, blown up by an asteroid.
Sensor Ghosts has been created by UK indie publisher Wren Games, the wife and husband team, Janice and Stu Turner.
Note: Final number of Command cards may vary depending on final player count and any other minor changes.
You must navigate through an asteroid field to reach the relative safety of Earth. However the computer from Assembly has managed to get onboard your ship and has hacked your navigational sensors.
To navigate through the asteroid field, working either alone or together, you must use your hand of Command cards to guide your ship but you must carefully choose the order and orientation you play them as you moves in the direction you play your cards and it's costly to turn your ship.
Note: Art has changed on Asteroid Sector cards - correct art is show in the image above.
However the asteroid field is continually moving and your sensors aren't working properly plus the only way Earth will let you land is if you bring them an uncontaminated sample of the virus.
Each time you move your ship, you must flip over the Space Sector card you move onto and encounter the reverse of the card. These cards are all double-sided, but the front and back are rarely the same.
So we hear you say - this requires memory then? Why didn't you say this at the top of the page? And the reason is that although some memory is required, there are ways to minimize the use of your memory grey matter:
- All movement is predictable so you can work out where things were and where they are going to be and only cards close to you move.
- The back and front of the cards are subtly different so if you use a specific strategy when flipping cards you just need to remember your strategy and any exceptions.
- You're provided with 3 Memory Cubes to use however best suits your strategy.
All in all this means that, in general, you'll only need to remember around 2 cards and rarely more than 4 cards at any one time. Our requirement was that you could play this game as a sleep deprived parent exhausted after a day looking after 2 young children!
The multi-player version, there is a limit of 1 card per player per turn so if you want to turn the ship or play a wild card you must seek support from your friends, but this means they have less cards in their turn.
Like Assembly, there are multiple versions of the game allowing you to customise it to suit your play style. This ranges from simply the level of communication allowed between players, to instructions on how to increase or decrease difficulty (including changing Obstructed Sectors to not being instadeath) as well as the optional Escape Pod which you must also guide safely back to Earth. We also have the Disruption mini-expansion planned as a Stretch Goal should the project do really well.
For Slickerdrips playthrough video, please ensure you have the subtitles on for rules corrections. The main misinterpretation is that you can flip over sector cards multiple times and always flip them when you move onto them. You always encounter the bottom of the card no matter how many times it has been flipped.
Note: The Disruption Deck will be added as a stretch goal later in the campaign.
Note: This video uses the alternative 2-player rules.

Assembly Base Game
New to Assembly? If so, then this section tells you everything you need to know about Assembly to get you up to speed. Keep scrolling if you're familiar with Assembly to find out what's new.
You must fully assemble the spaceship that lies in front of you in order to escape by locking each module into its correct bay before you can escape!
Working either alone or with a friend, you will take turns to manipulate the modules around the assembly line towards their correct bays.
Unfortunately, the ship’s computer isn’t going to make your life easy, and just as you think you're a step ahead she'll throw a spanner in the works.
You can find a written example turn of Assembly on our website here.
Assembly: Re-Sequence & Override is a double expansion pack for Assembly that will turn the base game's win strategies on their head as the computer has decided that she let you off too lightly in your first attempt at escaping and now has changed the rules of the game.
In Re-Sequence, you must now lock each bay in order, however she's given you a small break: you can choose the first bay that you lock but from then on you must lock each bay sequentially in a clockwise direction. Most of the standard rules are the same but there are a few changes:
- The Module tokens are placed in 2 face-up stacks.
- You can now use the Swap command to swap a deployed Module with the top undeployed module in one of the token stacks.
- The Rotate command can be used to cycle the top Module in each of the token stacks to the bottom of their respective stack.
- You have a new command card that allows you to temporarily make any bay appear locked meaning Modules can move more quickly around the bays.
- You can choose which of the top 2 face-up modules to deploy after rolling the die.
In Override, the computer has brought in reinforcements to slow you down. She's enlisted the help of a couple of robots who are blocking some of the Room Modules. You must now not only lock the correct modules into the correct bays but also get the robots to their correct bays too so they can be deactivated. Most of the standard rules are the same but there are a few changes:
- You have a new command card that allows you to temporarily make any bay appear locked.
- The Swap and Rotate commands cannot affect robots and Modules at the same time; you must choose which to affect after playing the card.
You also get 4 custom printed Robomeeples to represent her reinforcements!
3-4 Player Variants
In addition to the two expansions, we will also be providing a digital ruleset to enable Assembly to be played with 3 and 4 players, however additional cards will be required.
3 and 4 player games will require that you have a second copy of the Assembly base game so you'll need to add £20 to your pledge for a second copy of the base game.
There will also be a 1-2 version of this variant too!
Note: We have not yet tested the latest expansion for 3-4 player compatibility however if we get this done in time for print, we will ensure you have enough cards so you will only need 1 copy of the expansion to play with higher player counts.

Pledge Manager Only Add-Ons - LIMITED QUANTITY
As we have a limited quantity of some items they will only be available in the Pledge Manager after the campaign finishes. They are:
We know shipping can be quite a contentious issue and we have thought long and hard about how to best meet the needs of our backers whilst also minimising our risk. We have therefore decided to use a pledge manager and charge shipping after the campaign and will be using a fulfilment partner to ship rewards. This allows us to to mitigate the risk of the highly variable shipping costs between different regions whilst also ensuring that you aren't negatively impacted by our estimates being off. See our FAQ for more info.
As we are based in the UK we plan to ship all pledges from the UK.
Brexit: If the UK leaves the EU and the Customs Union before we start shipping rewards, we will ship EU rewards from Germany (where we are manufacturing) to ensure both UK and EU pledge remain customs friendly. Shipping to all other nations will be unaffected by any expected customs changes as a result of Brexit.
We know you want certainty; we know we would. Therefore we will be as open and transparent as we can with regards to shipping, which will be based on actual cost. We've done our calculations and the subsidised shipping will be a maximum of:
Note: Additional copies and other add-ons may incur additional shipping charges.

Who are we?
Wren games is a wife and husband team based in the UK. We first got into tabletop gaming over 5 years ago with Pandemic being the game that got us hooked. We are also avid Kickstarter supporters and our games collection is almost exclusive coop/solo games as these are our passion.
We first started designing games over 2 years ago when Janice was on maternity leave with our eldest daughter, Amelie. Assembly is our first game on Kickstarter so you have every right to be suspicious of us as a new publisher but please read on to find out why we think we can do it and why you should trust us.
Janice is a frequent cooperative gamer and occasional solo gamer. She's the lead game designer and graphic designer of Assembly and Sensor Ghosts. Janice is also a qualified professional Project and Product Manager with most of her experience lying in high-tech, high value products. She's taken several products from an idea through to manufacture, including inventing her own technology as part of her PhD. Since the last KS, Janice decided to reduce her hours at work by 1 day per week to spend more time on designing and publishing games.
Stu is an ex-teacher who now works as a Software Engineer for his day job. He is also the sole programmer behind the Assembly app. He got the family started on the hobby of collecting and playing modern board games and loves to paint miniatures. Stu is also the big solo gamer amongst the two of us. He has pretty high standards for solo games and has extensively tested and helped to develop both the solo and 2-player variants for Assembly and Sensor Ghosts. He also has a knack for attention for detail, so if you spot any mistakes, it's his fault ;-)
Amelie is the eldest of our two daughters. She has a pretty decent dice and large-meeple collection and loves 'reorganising' our game design bits and bobs. Already an avid gamer, her favourite games are Beasts of Balance, Rhino Hero and Concept. She also loves painting minis with Stu and is surprisingly good at it!
Sammie is the youngest of our two daughters, her 'indoctrination' into loving board games is complete. She loves taking games off the shelf and when we suggest playing a game she's always the first one there with a box in her hands!
Inca the cat has shown little interest in board games. He doesn't even like boxes! Inca tends to keep to himself other than bringing us the occasional present of a (live) mouse or rat and then sitting and watching us try to catch it. He is however the star of one of our potential future games.
Quality is important to us here at Wren games. That's why we manufacture our games in Germany and start with high quality components which we then improve further through stretch goals.
Assembly uses 320 gsm German linen, black core cards cards - pretty much the best you can get. We've even found that after cons a quick rub with a baby wipe brings them up as good as new! We also use 5 mm thick, 31 mm diameter wooden discs with durable full-colour stickers for the Room Module tokens giving the game a very tactile feel. The new Assembly expansion will be printed by the same manufacturer and to the same specification as the upgraded base game which should give a perfect match.
We plan to do a similar thing with Sensor Ghosts; we will start with 300 gsm German black core cards with options to upgrade these further through stretch goals to the same specification as Assembly.
Our playmats are made in the UK by a small independant gaming shop. We got many samples during the Assembly campaign but in our opinion the printing quality just wasn't up to scratch and we wanted to bring you a quality product. Our large playmats are made from 2 mm thick neoprene plus material topper and come with their own tube for shipping and storage.
Note: Playmats will be rolled and shipped separately to ensure your game is not damaged by their hefty weight during transit.
Risks and challenges
So we're a new publisher, why should you trust us?
- Risk 1: Can We Do It?
Janice is an experience and qualified Project and Product Manager with over 10 years of industry experience (AMP-PQ / IPMA Level C). She has delivered multi-million pound high-tech projects on time and on budget. In comparison, this project is pretty small and she will be using her PM knowledge and expertise to manage it from kick-off to completion and beyond.
- Risk 2: Manufacture - Quality
To reduce the risk of poor quality, incorrect components, etc. we have chosen to manufacture all elements of this project in Europe. This will ensure that not only the required safety standards are met but also with our manufacturers in (almost) the same time zone as us it will make communication much easier and more efficient. It also has the added bonuses that we are supporting fairly paid workers and local/small businesses and we can avoid unexpected tariff increases on Chinese imports.
- Risk 3: Manufacture - On Time Delivery
The delivery date of this project is not based on a 'best case' scenario. We have provided what is a realistic timeline based upon certain risks occurring (such as being bumped in manufacture due to being a small publisher in the lead-up to Essen, national holidays, etc.). However, we will be working to, and driving our suppliers to the optimum delivery schedule. We want to be realistic with you about what our schedule could be and will keep you updated every step of the way.
